THE STAR ENDORSES SLY JAMES!!!

An interesting move from Kansas City's so-called paper of record . . .

THE STAR ENDORSES SLY JAMES FOR MAYOR!!!

This will get Sly a great many Northland votes. Still, I wonder how many other people it convinces? In this election, there's no real bad choice (or at least not much of a difference) but the real drama is between different factions of Kansas City political denizens picking sides. And The Star's pick CERTAINLY draws a line in the sand.

Here are The Star's City Council picks in the contested races:

1st District At-Large: Scott Wagner
2nd District: Russ Johnson
2nd District At-Large: Ed Ford
3rd District: Jermaine Reed
4th District At-Large: Jim Glover
5th District: Michael Brooks
5th District At-Large: Cindy Circo
6th District: John Sharp
6th District At-Large: Scott Taylor

  1. What a choice for mayor - a thug from the hood or Kay Barnes with a penis. Either way we are screwed

  2. This is the liberal majority of the KC Star board speaking. Nothing wrong with that, but that is what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  3. WOW....it's now Sly's to lose.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Everyone endorses Mr. James once you have met him. Its an easy decision. KC is looking up.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Whoever said Sly is a thug from the hood obviously doesn't know shit.

    ReplyDelete
  6. "The Northland" is not so easily duped, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Mr. James dont pay attention to these comments and bring KC out of this Funk. Thank You.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Sorry, just like Local 42's endorsement, The Star's endorsement is the kiss of death for that campaign.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Tony, you dont have the endorements right.. Spell check buddy

    ReplyDelete
  10. James is very impressive. He is a smart man and he will be a good Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Tony,Michael Brooks is 5th in district and a great human being.

    ReplyDelete
  12. James is first rate and the best choice. Kudos to The Star for making a right decision, for once.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The endorements are coming late and furious because they realize Mr. James popularity. The people are behind James for Mayor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Mr. James is the best choice.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Four years ago Star endorses Funk, who had no real experience, and lived to regret it. Now, they do the same and endorse Sly? Voters will be smarter than Star this time around. Burke is clear choice, folks.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Burke is lousy for this City. Sly James all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sly James is full of class and charisma. He has the intellect, temperment, and overall ability to make Kansas City the place we want it to be. Sly James is the best choice. It's that simple!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mike Burke has sucked off of this city long enough. He's spent his whole life making this city pay off for him. Vote Sly!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Tweedle dum over Tweedle dee

    ReplyDelete
  20. I live in the Northland, and since Deb didn't advance to the general, I have been behind Sly. I was concerned about whether he had a chance or not, but every day I feel more and more confident that he will win. In any case, he has my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Northlander here and former voter for Funk. While I do not like his ads blasting Funk, I like the TIF feeders less. I supported Funk despite all the issues with the council because I figured that's what happens when you shake things up. I would have gladly supported him and hoped for a calmer second term with some new council members but that won't happen so I am hopeful that James will do no harm to the city finances and might just have something to offer. I am sure I know what Burkes plan will be and we've been there and done that already.

    ReplyDelete
  22. "Northland were so easily duped"...
hey I live in the Northland and were not easily duped, look we all voted for Funk. hahahah

    ReplyDelete
  23. The editorial is accurate--Mike Burke is a good man. And so is Sly James. I am voting for Sly.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mike Burke is NOT a good man. He is pond scum.

    Sly is the ONLY choice.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I know Mike Burke. He is certainly NOT "pond scum". No one's perfect, but he's a generally pretty decent guy.

But I am voting for Sly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't know or care if "pond scum" is accurate, but he has been hateful in his campaign. An ugly presser, using Fitz to bully Wheeler. He is Kay Barnes' buddy and a development lawyer. Every word of that is verifiable, I'm just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mike Burke makes too many promises on issues that won't hold water.

    ReplyDelete
  28. They both suck.

Sly is a nice guy and pretty smart, but the first two or three years will be wasted as he figures out the most basic stuff at City Hall. Even if he surrounds himself with good people (and since that bitch Linda Becker--you know the one who had to resign in disgrace because she couldn't figure out basic stuff like getting forms turned in on time--is one of his top advisors, I doubt that will happen), it'll take him a long while to work his way through the many traps that the SOBs at City Hall will set for him (and anyone else, for that matter). He might be a good salesman for the city, but wouldn't have a clue how to turn the rhetoric into reality.

Burke knows his way around the traps (hell, he's set many of them himself) and has the experience to get the job done. Unfortunately, the main job he's interested in is further enriching himself and his buddies. He might do some good things, just because he's such a wuss that he'd get pushed into them by loud voices. Not a good salesman for the city at all; I certainly wouldn't have confidence in the short, chubby guy with the high-pitched voice who kind of looks like a goblin.

    Both choices suck ass.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wouldn't vote for Burke if he was up against Funk (and I'm certainly not a funk fan). Hope Sly pulls through! Burke is DIRTY.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Michael Brooks for the 5th? Now talk about someone with NO experience to serve. I have seen him at some events and he appears to be full of himself.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Burke is a devious self promoter who is all about lining his pockets and those of his pals. Sly is certainly capable of hitting the ground running and can handle any traps that City Hall has. Sly is very intelligent. He doesn't spew rhetoric as does Burke. Sly will be able to turn his ideas into reality. Sly James for Mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  32. The Star didn't endorse me in the 3rd District race because I'm black. I'm sueing them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. from the folks that brought you FOUR WONDERFUL FUNKY tears....

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks like a race after all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Both candidates deflect and dodge all questions concerning the Bannister Weapons Complex, WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? As Leader wanabees seems one would find guts enough to talk about projects that WILL bring billions of dollars into the city , in JOBS, TRAINING and the WORLDWIDE FUTURE INDUSTRY OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS PARTS AND SALES. BOTH CANDIDATES ARE DUDDS!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sly says he won't go negative, but his campaign supporters or staffers are out in force here on TKC slamming Burke. If you are as honorable as you say, Sly, reign them in. These are cheap shots of the lowest form. Seems the word 'scum' they use to smear others is more fitting for themselves

    ReplyDelete
  37. The scum rises to the top just like the cream, and you have a VERY HARD TIME know which is which.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Nobody cares about The Star endorsement any longer.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Burke supporters are funny! If he had gotten the endorsement you would have been touting it and saying that they got it right in the primary and got it right again. But since the Star told the truth you bash it. I love it! Losers! Go get a tax abatement or a handout somewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am proud to be a James supporter.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mike Fletcher3/6/11, 11:14 AM

The Star should have endorsed me. I am rich and successful. Because they didn't I will be bringing in outsider professionals to create a paper to endorse me. You poor Kansas Citians. You are beggers.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Funny how James touts an ability to mediate negotiations as if it is some kind of god-given skill and not a fancy way of saying I can get a settlement without going to court for a personal injury case.

    ReplyDelete
  43. James will make KC proud again.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Watch It Play3/6/11, 1:52 PM

Now the Star will run a hit piece on Burke so the dead tree media can extol their insight and relevance and tell us they told us Sly was the best candidate.

    Too bad.

Making an endorsement is fine, but should Sly win it will be tainted by the Star's meddling and muddling immediately prior to the election a la Funk.

Watch it play, kiddo's, watch it play.....

    ReplyDelete
  45. What a breath of fresh air KC.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Burke is an OK guy but KC is ready for James.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mike is a fine guy but is really just a political "player" type. He isn't dynamic and doesn't evoke enthusiasm. People who are supporting him either have had business dealings with him or hope to in the future. He won't set the city backward but also won't move it forward much either. The movers and shakers knew this and it's why most went to Deb first thinking she might be a little more exciting - she wasn't now we have this match up.

As for Sly....he better hope he's been advised correctly re the anti-Funk approach. Funkhouser lost mainly due to the chaos around him not his outsider - populist image. Sly needs the populist vote to win and Burke is the perfect opponent.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The thing overlooked on Burke is that he has ideas and he's implemented them. He has been putting them into action for 30 years as a part of boards, commissions, and the creation of them. While James has served on a few committees, he's never chaired them or been the consensus leader on accomplishing the creation of anything in this city.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 6:14...there are people all over that are generous with their time on Boards and Commissions. It's also good career building stuff. It's seldom makes for Mayor material which is correct in this case.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In this Govt structure we need a leader. There hasnt been one forum where James didnt display leadership qualities over all challengers. My vote is for James and it is not even close.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 6:14, Mike sure has implemented his ideas, and they've all made him money. Port Authority, PIAC, getting his development deals through City Hall... he sure knows how to navigate... for himself.

I'm more interested in someone who is less in love with himself and thinks is his "birthright" to be mayor/ Sly is smarter than Burke, nicer by far and cares more.

    Sly for Mayor!

    ReplyDelete
  52. It doesn't matter what's said on here. If Sly doesn't spell out the differences he loses.

    ReplyDelete
  53. The main difference between Funk and Sly? We saw too much of Funk's wife for too long, and we will never see Sly's wife in public in order to keep the sistas happy.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Melba Curls is "toast" and who ever is on the freedom ticket is toast. "freedom inc" has no power and if Mike fletcher isn't on it then they will have no money to pay their poll workers, I hope James has $50,000 to throw away.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I voted for Sly. I liked Sly until I realized his connection to good ole Rev. Keith Brown. Now it is my mission to encourage everyone to vote for Burke.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for your support at my cri
    Inal trials
