Sorry, now that the U.S. is undertaking THREE WARS using the most confused and confusing logic ever touted publicly by a Presidential Administration (including Bush The Younger) . . . It's a lot easier to be critical of politicos offering hope and change.
To wit, Mayor-Elect Sly James, City Councilwoman Melba Curls and City Councilman-elect Jermaine Reed appearing at an Ad Hoc Group Against Crime press conference and agreeing to read an old report as soon as possible isn't exactly earth shattering.
In fact, while I deeply respect the work of Alvin Brooks . . . This move from Mayor-Elect Sly James and members of the Council seems like nothing but more of the same empty gestures that have resulted in year after year of triple digit murders in Kansas City, Missouri.
Is it too much to expect new anti-crime ideas from The Sly James Administration right out of the gate? Not if that's exactly what they promised. I've never been certain that political leadership will curb this town's homicide rate but I do know that the lack of it isn't helping as people wait for an ideas just a bit more dynamic than pressers and reading material.
TONY! Give the man a chance! He's not even been sworn in yet. He's not Funkhouser, so ease up on him.
ReplyDeleteLOL. So what else is new ?
ReplyDeleteMake sure you pass more taxes for the same shitty service.
And you expected what? The Gangsters are a lost generation. About all that can be done is put them in prison and keep them there. Sly is going to be about making money, just like a POLITICIAN.
ReplyDeleteIt would be a good exercise when bitching about the crime rate to realize that YOU put your pants on the same way the mayor does.
ReplyDeleteSo what would YOU do with the resources and the limitations of power you have to reduce the murder count in Kansas City?
That should bring your bitching down to a manageable level.
I don't at all share your respect for the work of Al Brooks, Tee. For years he has made a very good living taking advantage of the grief of families of murder victims and has been paid by the taxpayers to do so. Now that the money has dried up at city hall, he actually is paid by families like the Eustons to "help" them navigate the KCPD and balck communities "systems". And he sits on the police board.
ReplyDeleteJermaine Reed is just a front man for Al so he can resume getting some bucks from the city.
The murder rate in KCMO remains at least two a week and the homicide clearance rate last year was only 42%. It's hard to understand how Brooks considers himself AGAINST crime. He actually profits from it.
Actually Mr. James has had a copy of the "Commission on Violent Crime Final Report June 2006" for over a year, because all of the mayoral candidates were given the reports in person by the Operation Promise Land staff.
ReplyDeleteThere are some very good recommendations in the report, some of which have been implemented and others which might very well help curb the violence.
It would be a very good start if Mr. James could get the council, the police board, and COMBAT, among other agencies, to collaborate resources and strategies to address the issue of violence in the city. And neighborhood leaders on the east side have to work for more cohesion among residents and more cooperation with the police, if we're going to make much progress.
Mr. James has a great opportunity to take a first important step.
Check points a la the West Bank.
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact that the PD wants nothing to do with the city they would actually benefit from some political leadership. They need cover to inact drastic measures to address a serious situation. They need the Mayor to stand before the public and call for action and most importantly, back them up when they take it. Most cops are afraid of reaction to an all out house cleaning of gangs aka(kids who are often described by their family as "good kids" once they become a victim of their lifestyle. Would the community support them or call it racial profiling if the streets were cleaned up?
ReplyDeleteIs Jermaine Reed actively pursuing funding for an organization he works for? Isn't that against the code of ethics?
ReplyDeleteThe blood suckers were out in force at Ad Hoc press conference. Mr.James needs to be aware that this is nothing but a trap. Alvin Brooks is Jermaine's dad and is the founder of Ad Hoc & sits on the Board of Police Commission, receives funding from KCPD & KCMO-Jermaine is now President of AD Hoc newly elected 3rd District City Council Rep. now do you get the picture. Reed has to resign from either the council or Ad Hoc and if he remains on the council he should not be able to vote for funding for AD HOC or any of their umbrella groups. A report done in 2006 is outdated and why would a press conference be called concerning it.
ReplyDelete3/29/11 10:02 AM-yes he is and he is the President
ReplyDeleteAlvin Brooks has and is making a huge living off the suffering of murder victims family, city & state. Now he has Reed in place to continue funding AD HOC which means nothing in the minority communites. Alvin Brooks, Jehri Curl wearing -where is the commuity center you took money for - Miles, Coe,that is using funds from urban farming,(theres no farm) need to go exit the community ASAP,no one appointed these crooks as community leaders.
ReplyDeleteAlvin was a dirty cop and a skirt chaser, who it is told offered up City contracts to businesses who would pay him under the table. Then he used his council position to make sure Ad Hoc was funded, which in turn paid him a six-figure salary. This violated city law, but no one pushed it because he is/was Saint Alvin.
ReplyDeleteHopefully more people are catching on to what a dirt bag he really is. If Jermaine wants to be painted with the same brush, then stick close to Alvin. If you want to be your own man, run far away.
Free abortion for everyone is the solution. Crime would be nonexistent in just a few decades if it weren't for all the stoopid Christians. Duh. Watch Freakonomics. Oh wait, then Social Security becomes insolvent. Nevermind everyone. Fuck each others brains out because I want the government to pay for my retirement.
