KC's E-Tax Supporters Fight Voter Fatigue

A new batch of signs and a new tagline hit the streets over the weekend and it seems to be reminding Kansas City voters of one last important ballot issue this cycle.

KANSAS CITY E-TAX SUPPORTERS CLAIM "IT'S NOT OVER" IN THEIR LATEST EFFORT TO REMIND FOLKS OF THE VOTE!!!

It's a tad presumptuous given that voter turnout is so low, but I understand the strategy. Even people from Kansas City want to finish strong and the wording of these adverts is like some kind of desperate call for action or some really shameless donation request . . . Whichever you think suits the local vibe best.

  2. That's because lots of people are just sick of being taxed during hard times. This is a great time to prune back the dead wood in government...including the unproductive police and excessive firemen in the city.

No one ever talks about an appropriate ratio between police & fire and citizens, or square miles.

Wonder if its because there are too many?

Vote NO. Let em come back with a HALF PERCENT instead! No one says the taxpayers are stuck with all or nothing!

  3. Vote no on the etax. Let's make all the folks who live outside KCMO pay out their ass for water that KCMO sells to them. Let's also charge out the ass for our fire department to clean up their HAZMAT messes along with the use of our SWAT and police helicopters.

Someone will need to build more homeless shelters as many who cannot afford to pay for trash service and increased property taxes will loose their homes.

    Excellent idea.

  5. I have to assume that 6:30am was against the bi-state effort to save Union Station and the comment is certainly the kind that would discourage any other jurisdiction from having much of anything to do with KCMO. If the e-tax is REALLY all about getting money from folks who don't live in KCMO, just say so and stop whining about other people paying "their fair share" for the "amenities" in the city.
    Can't have it both ways!

  6. Maybe KCMO should just cut off water they purify and distribute to other communities since everyone is so ungrateful

  7. I'll be voting for the e-tax, but it does seem to me that having a separate election for this one issue is a big waste of money.

  8. There aren't that many amenities that aren't paid for in ticket and entrance fees, or indirectly through prices. What? Swope park police protection?

Everything else, you pay for in the prices companies charge you, or taxes your employer pays in lieu of paying you more. What value of these 'amenities' please?

    Vote NO, NADA!

  9. I'm voting yes because I don't want to be lumped in with all the lame-brained people who are on this blog;) lol

  10. Vote No E-Tax. The Money IS THERE.
It's just being used for TIF, not needed consultants, political favors,
our tax dollars are being wasted.

    Vote for fiscal responsibility.
    Vote NO E-TAX.

  12. That evil millionaire got those out state hicks to vote for the measure causing this vote.

Trouble is, the voters of KCMO are now going to finish the job by voting the E-tax out.

Darn this democracy thing! Where did the peasants get the notion they could decide important matters?

Shouldn't a candidate be liable for a fine when they litter like this?

  14. The E-Tax sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Why on earth would any sane KCMO resident vote the E-Tax out of existance and themselves a huge tax increase?

    ReplyDelete
  16. How can KC voters fight voter fatigue when most of the lazy bastards don't vote?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Vote to retain the E-tax! Keep JoCo and Lee's Summit people paying the tab for our miserable city services!

KCMO people can't be expected to support their own city, after all.

DON'T THE OTHER COMMUNITIES PAY FOR SUCH WATER? YOUR COMMENT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

AND TALK ABOUT UNGRATEFUL...JOCO PEOPLE AND FOLKS FROM EASTERN JACKSON COUNTY ARE BASICALLY CARRYING THE MISERABLE CITY OF KCMO ON THEIR BACKS. YET TKC AND OTHERS CONSTANTLY INSULT THEM.

  19. I have a friend who moved here from out of the area and settled in Overland Park. To her, Kansas City, Mo., is irrelevant.

KCMO does give the metro area it's name, that's true. But KCMO people better realize that much of Johnson County and Wyandotte County do not consider KCMO the main, core city at all.

If Johnson County were one municipality with one name, KCMO would NOT be the main city in anyone's estimation.

  20. 10:15. Yes, they pay for water. But the city has an ageing infrastructure under crappy roads. You want to kill the etax and drink our water, then you should pay out your ass or find water elsewhere. That simple.

  22. It is not an issue of whether it will pass but at what margin. The higher percentage of yes vote, the more comfortable the newly elected administration shall be able to move forward on an agenda that is yet to be defined. That is not a criticism of the new Mayor and Council, but merely a reality caused by the bump in the road as result of the state-wide vote to make St Louis and Kansas City confirm through the voters the way each community conducts business.

The biggest mistake that officials in Kansas City can make is to ignore the signals that the E-tax vote will create. Anything less than a 2-1 victory margin should set off alarms in City Hall. Once it has passed, City officials need to be wary of celebrating and going back to “business as usual” and begin to immediately develop strategies based on other means of financing for city services over the long term. Economic development has to be “retooled” so that it cannot bleed the City of money for basic services but at the same time retain jobs and promote a “new economy” that will create more jobs. A daunting task for new administration.

With another vote in 5 years, the E-tax should be considered a luxury and not a necessity. To do so is dangerous and short-sighted.

  24. Get rid of the E-Tax.

  25. If you live in KCMO and vote no on the e-tax, you are a fucking tard. I live in Lees Summit and work in KCMO. It's 1%. Fuck it. I pay higher sales tax in Lees Summit and can imagine how the regressive nature of a sales tax will punish the poorest people.

Fact is that most of the money against the e-tax and most of the pissant bitching on this blog comes from crybaby motherfuckers from out of state. That's typical. You get these people coming in, just like billionare Rex did, who want to run KCMO business when they have no business in KCMO.

If the e-tax goes, that's money in my pocket. But fact is, you're retarded to vote it out.

DON'T YOU REALIZE THAT IF THESE CITIES STOP BUYING THE KCMO WATER, IT WILL HURT KCMO?

I HOPE THEY DO STOP BUYING.

I ALSO HOPE THE ROYALS AND CHIEFS ULTIMATELY MOVE TO KANSAS, THAT THE AIRPORT IS RELOCATED TO KANSAS, ETC.

THEN KCMO CAN STOP WHINING ABOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR THEIR AMENITIES.

  30. 12:04 said it best. Why vote no and guarantee ourselves higher sales and property taxes as well as fees for stuff the e-tax covers now?

If we vote no, we are a bunch of fucking tards.

  31. Just out of curiosity, R-man, what's it to ya? You don't live or work in KC, so you're not getting hit with the tax.

  32. Th E-Tax sucks..... it does not go for services.

    ReplyDelete
  33. We probably pay twice what you do. I personally havent paid ETAX in severfal years but my wife does.

I'd rather pay sales tax. It's less of a hit. Ya don't pay sales tax on services or mortgages/rent. Or on savings. Or health care. Income tax nails ya up front for all of it.

Then ya turn around and pay for services where YOU live, too, through THEIR taxes. For which you pay double because you do pay income tax on what you pay to your own municipalities and counties.

Moreover we pay for our trash pickup and yours too if you don't work! It ain't right.

it's too much. Again, it should be a half cent for people living outside the jurisdiction. Its worth not takin a job in KCMO. And lots don't. Just another reason why the core city is dying. I rarely set foot in the city. When it snows, ya can't! Heh heh. Pathetic.
