Thanks to a TKC TIPSTER who directed me to photos of the recent "Unity" breakfast from The Chamber . . .
The photo of Kay clutching on to Sly is kinda scary . . . As if she's a zombie from Kansas City's distant past and I hope she doesn't bite the Mayor Elect . . . Or maybe it looks like the two are about to do a tango. I should note that I'm not the only person scared about the future for Sly James and his administration . . . More on that later . . .
In the meantime, here's a look at Mayor-Elect Sly James talking about his priorities:

WDAF reports a bit of hope: James Looks to Tackle KCMO's High Crime Rate
WDAF reports a bit of hope: James Looks to Tackle KCMO's High Crime Rate .....
ReplyDeleteA good start would be a new Police Chief, Board of Police Commissioners, and Local Control.
Our Tax Dollars we should have a say. Besides we have had this crime problem for YEARS.
Crime fighting at it's best.

New City Manager search and new Police Chief is the starting point.
ReplyDeleteMayor James won the election in a different way without kissing up to all the usual suspects, and it gives him a chance to keep going in the same direction with some creative innovative public safety ideas and by holding people accountable for resutls, which will also be a brand new concept for alot of the old crowd.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you live, work, or just visit KCMO, we should all be supportive of any focused effort at reducing crime and violence in the 9th most dangerous city in the country.
Dear Sly, do not waste your first term like I did.
ReplyDelete@5:23 AM-Chief Corwin is soon to retire. We'll have that new police chief you keep asking for. Question is, who will replace Corwin?
ReplyDeleteWhat's needed for a new police chief is someone from outside who will ask some tough questions, hold people accountable for results, be more interested in performance than they are in PR, and not take "becasue that's the way we've alwys done it" for an answer.
ReplyDeleteIf the police board, mayor and council, and county COMBAT leaders could collaborate and focus resources and ideas, KCMO could become a much safer place for everyone.
And the new elected folks should take the lead.
Watch out Kay...Sly loves him some white woman!
ReplyDelete@8:01 AM-Good Answer!
ReplyDeleteSly seeks counsel from his white grandma.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing... wonder if he's planning to use his bully pulpit to shame the local teen thugs and their single parent moms who are responsible for these random acts of violence.
ReplyDeleteWe all know nothing can be done to stop killings based on hot emotions, but the ego killings. Gang initiations, those might be stopped with an effective campaign.
Wonder if the TV stations would get into a "Do you know where your children are?" campaign, or something more effective for the times?
And turning up the heat on gangs wouldn't hurt.
Old Tony would have made this one a caption contest. Just saying....
ReplyDeleteMayor Kay: "My support was so helpful during the election. I'd love to help your administration--maybe I could find some TIF projects on the Plaza, in my neighborhood, Briarcliff, which is blighted simply by being north of the river, or maybe we could find a project on Ward Parkway. I just LOVE spending taxpayer money. Oh, and don't forget, I used to teach sex classes, so if I could help you in that respect, please give me a call. Ummmmm. Anytime."
ReplyDeleteStop take home police cars for family use. What a waste of my tax dollars.
ReplyDeleteWe need local control of the Police Department.
ReplyDeleteDon't think local control is a magic bullet, where you can just change a system and then forget about managing how it works. If we'd had local control for the last four years, the KCPD would have been "run" by Funkhouser, Jolly, and Sharp!
ReplyDeleteSpecific expectations, performance standards, community policing, innovative programs, neighborhood relationships, and people held accountable are what's needed. And NO system guarantees those elements; only having serious compentent people does!
And like the current system works?
ReplyDeleteBeing 9th in the nation in crime demonstrates the current system works. Like duh ?
3/24/11 10:44 am, You are so right...
ReplyDeleteSERIOUS WILLING PEOPLE, that have the guts to WANT to put forth the REAL effort and PROCESS for success.
Those that have over the last forty plus years, that have worked in the system to allow this situation to grow, SHOULD GO!
No, but now they are still the ones around to straighten the mess out!
ARE WE SERIOUS!FOOLISHNESS HAS TO STOP, Tricks and TRICKERS EXPOSED, justice and accountability WILL BE ENFORCED. THE PEOPLE WANT REAL CHANGE, NEW IDEAS, NEW VOICES. It is easy to see how the state of affairs got so bad, just read the record of our leaders, look at what has been projected to the people as worthy of note as reward and promotion. Look at how the SYSTEM popularizies and HYPE BAD BEHAVIOR, AND OBSCENE IMAGES, people get ready, theres a train wreck coming, you don't need no ticket! ALL ABOARD!
semper fi?????????????????
or SLY?????????????????????
Is 11:14 Gloria on drugs?
ReplyDeleteWe need local control of the schools!
ReplyDeleteOh, wait......
We need local control of the water department!
Oh, wait.....
The city wants control:
ReplyDeletePIEA needs to be drug tested, all judges need to be drug tested before and after work, all politicians need to be drug tested daily, afterall they are making decisions that cost alot of money, maybe cost lives...what is this all about? CONTROL, if the CREAM OF THE CROP CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHO SHOULD CONTROL, THEY MUST BE OUT OF CONTROL. WHAT SUBSTANCE ARE THEY ON...Do we have a test for GREED, POWER or EGO TRIPPING?
chaos, everything is out of CONTROL!
I think Mike Burke was hurt by the fact his wife is WHITE.
ReplyDeleteGloria is Crazy as Hell without drugs.
