KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN PARKING CRISIS!!!

Something to consider besides cheerleading from local media regarding imaginary b-ball money:

Infozine: KCMO Municipal Garages at or Near Capacity Due to Big 12

But it gets worse . . .

EXORBITANT PRICES FOR KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN PARKING DURING THE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT HAVE HORRIBLY DAMAGED THE REPUTATION OF DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY!!!

Price gouging at $40 bucks a car only guarantees that people frustrated with these prices WILL NEVER COME BACK TO DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY!!!

So . . . Kansas City's cheapskate character has been revealed again and the so-called "Downtown Renaissance" is really nothing more than ponzi scheme with really bad parking

  1. Thats what people are willing to pay.

Thats cheap compared to a few other big cities.

  2. Ride the bus.

  3. I live in Coffee Lofts at 7th and May downtown. There are always tow trucks parked illegally on May, waiting to tow people parked illegally downtown. I saw 5 of them Wednesday evening this week. I have been tempted to call them in. Corner of 8th and May downtown if anyone cares to give them a taste of their own medicine this weekend.

  4. $40 bucks a car is ripping people off by any measure. It illustrates the convoluted cluster that is Power and Light. Something this city didn't need and will forever regret.

  5. And the City continues to make stellar moves, like tearing down the shoppers parkade garage at 11th & Grand, rather than rehabbing it. It's now surface parking.

The City paid millions in court costs and settlement fees when they tried to use eminent domain to steal from the owners of Gigi's Wigs at 13th and Grand and lost. That area is now a surface parking lot.

    Not exactly forward thinking.

  6. Twice too much. This will spread tales. Ten people telling ten people who tell ten people.

    Where's that city bus?

    ReplyDelete
  7. The idiots should ride the bus. If they're too stupid to do that, than they can't complain about being ripped off in parking garages.

  8. its private property. they can charge what they want. you same dbags crying about it are the same ones who love capitalism. suck it up pussies.

  9. Another black eye for Kansas City, what's the current mayor and city council doing.

  10. Park on the Plaza for free. Take a cab both ways. Less than $40 and beat the traffic.....

  11. KC is the big mother teat....and everyone wants to suckle
e.g. Politicos, developers, plaintiffs and their attorneys, community activists, public employees, bloggers, and yes....even parking lot owners.

  12. Mass Transit

  13. so has anyone checked at what downtown parking is at other venues in other cities? just askin'. maybe it isn't that bad compared to what they might charge in tulsa, dallas or st. louis or indy.

1:14 is right, and so is 1:38. despite missteps in parking planning, city leaders (if we had any and they had any balls) would tell the private operators to keep it reasonable if they want to see this event return and return again.

  14. KCMO, as usual, has things backwards. They think if you're incoveniecenced and ripped off, that must mean KCMO is a BIG TIME city.
What is really means is that it's a bush league city that rips people off.
    Nice try though.

  19. The E-Tax.

A Kansas City tax funded big tit and everyone wants to suck on it.

Time to cut the apron strings, Taxpayers.

  20. With gas reaching 4 bucks a gallon and parking at outrageous prices who needs down town KCMO?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Kansas City SUCKS.

  22. You can park in downtown Indianapolis, attend a pro, college or high school basketball game or a pro football game and spend no more then $10 as well as have access to at least 75 restaurants and bars. Indy>>>KC

  23. Take a cab... you save your parking money and a DUI! if you can't spring for a cab because you'd be spending your beer money or cotton candy money then you shouldn't be going down there anyway. don't bitch about parking prices, use other resources.

  24. The cure for high prices is....high prices. Either more parking will meet the need or the need will go away. Think for yourself and stop asking government to run your life for you.

  25. Where are these $40 lots... right next to the Sprint Center? Most of the lots just 2-3 blocks away are advertising $10 or even $5 for all-day parking.

    ReplyDelete
  26. $4 per gallon, or higher gas. Hope and change baby. You asked for it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He probably just saw one site that was charging 40$ and freaked. I parked right next to Sprint Center and paid 10$. If it bothers you so much to pay for parking then WALK. I think the people of KC have forgotten how to use their legs. In the past we parked in Rivermarket for FREEEE and walked. I know I know its crazy but there are some serious fat asses in KC that could use a walk. -- Think about it.

  28. Looks like this is yet another case of Tony either making something up or making grossly exaggerated claims. Even the article he links to only mentions $10 parking. You'd have to be a genuine idiot to be unable to find a $10 or $5 lot, as that's what nearly all of them charge.

The garage I park in is 3 blocks from Sprint Center and has not come close to filling up yet.

  29. Bus works for me everyday. Saving a shitload on gas. No parking concerns. I like watching the miserable drivers in their private autos just about to explode as they are stuck in traffic. Forward looking would be mass transit. Backward looking would be more "free" parking. The lack of awareness and critical thinking in this city blows my mind.
