Congratulations To Kansas City's Youngest Council Dude Jermaine Reed!!! And Let's Defuse His Critics Right Now!!!
The biggest upset in this Kansas City election, the biggest surprise: A Kansas City youth movement on the Eastside and a very surprising win in a very nasty election cycle by Jermaine Reed.

The young man is smart, accomplished and seems to have the right attitude about leadership in this town.
But this is Kansas City . . . Some nagging and nasty criticism has already arisen in TKC comments and there was talk of it during the election.
I don't want to interrupt anybody's victory party . . . BUT, it's morning now and if denizens of the 3rd District think that vicious talk of Reed's alleged "Alternative Lifestyle" or his residency is going to end on the day of his inauguration . . . They're being silly.
Also, I haven't heard anybody recant talk about a recall that was threatened.
Are people counting on an end to the political fighting in the 3rd District? Please don't hold your breath.
Still . . . The facts will help us out on this one . . .
ACCORDING TO THE CHARTER THERE CAN'T BE A RECALL FOR AT LEAST SIX MONTHS INTO A COUNCIL OR MAYORAL TERM . . . AND THERE'S A REASONABLY HIGH STANDARD FOR A RECALL AS WELL!!!
More to the point, recalls don't seem to work in Kansas City and failed against Saundra McFadden-Weaver AND Mayor Funky . . . And THEY weren't exactly popular.
To wit . . . In this instance I think supporting Mr. Reed and helping him represent the 3rd is wisest course of action for everyone who really wants to see progress in this part of Kansas City.

Maybe SSB and Moreno should have spent more time campaigning instead of running to the courts to get Fletcher off of the ballot.

Good luck to the citizens of the 3rd. They now have a novice representing them in district as well as a nincompoop as their at large representative. I hope they manage to bring home their fair share of PIAC, reduce the number of murders and bring jobs to the 3rd. It won't happen.

Moreno revived SSB in ways nobody thought. Jermaine had all of the support from Freedom and community leaders. A good win for Jermaine and keeping Fletcher out of this seat is a good win for Moreno.
