A BACKHANDED DEFENSE OF SLY!!!

Sly James supporters are mad az Hell about a negative TV advert . . .

I haven't seen it yet and it's not online. However, Prime Buzz included reporting on it using a rather strange description of the piece . . . Here's the interesting quote:

"Citizens for Responsible Spending. That’s a pro-Mike Burke group.

On Friday, the group launched a TV ad that said Burke “doesn’t get lost in a fog of indecision,” a clear dig at Sly James."

Actually . . . The indecision line isn't a "clear" dig at James just from that writing . . . But I'm sure the visuals hinted as much . . . It's just that . . . Damn. I think Sly James is actually a very decisive man who isn't confused one bit about his positions.

So, while I'm sure the quick defense of Sly is sincere . . . It might not be helping.

NOW HERE'S THE LATEST BREAKING RESPONSE FROM THE SLY JAMES CAMP!!!

Check it:

STATEMENT OF SLY JAMES ON BURKE TEAM ATTACK AD

KANSAS CITY, MO – The following is the statement of Sly James in response to the negative attack ad launched today by Mike Burke's team of well-heeled political insiders under the cover of "Citizens for Responsible Spending":

“I have run a positive campaign centered on leadership. I am very disappointed that Mike has chosen to go this route. Real leaders don't change their character because they’re afraid of losing a campaign.

“Coming as it does on the same day that questions have been raised about a possible no-bid, insider deal for Mike and his law firm at the Port Authority, this all just seems like so much politics as usual. Mike has run a clean campaign up until now; he shouldn't resort to this kind of nonsense. If this is what he means by ‘experience,’ then he and I have very different understanding of what that word means.

“The fact is, I’ve been very specific about my priorities for the Polsinelli building on the Plaza. I want to keep the jobs in Kansas City, I want to address residents’ concerns, and I want a solution that doesn’t cost the city $20-30 million in TIF money. As long as a solution meets my three priorities, I can support it. Unlike Mike, I’m not going to lock myself into only one possible solution before I explore all options to get the best for the people of our city. Leaders bring opposing sides together to create solutions. Unfortunately, Mike has taken a stand that will cost the city taxpayer money and potentially jobs.

“Kansas City voters deserve a positive, optimistic vision for our city. I’m going to continue to stay focused on being the type of leader Kansas City deserves.”

  1. Looks like the campaign has gone on too long and the consultants are getting bored, so they have to try to earn more money by shaking things up.
KCMO still needs some gutsy new faces and some creative ideas. This stuff gets nobody anyhwere.

  2. Kansas City needs a Mayor with substance, not just "positive, optimistic vision" bable...sorry Sly, it isn't selling.

  3. Neither one of them, has guts enough to touch the Bannister Weapons Complex issue. Both deflect all position, or conversation to the FED'S, BOTH ARE WEAK!

Character attacks from Burke's guys is the kind of substance KC needs?

Come on. It's desperation time from Mike and crew.

  5. Don't need charisma. We need leadership. Sly James will be a failure, if elected.

  6. Sly James is finally making a stand. Don't let Burke play the "nice guy" card. He is not.

  7. I'm tired of Sly saying " I will start a focus group" or " we will have a committee" or "I'll find experts to look into that issue and help me." Consensus is good but this is buck passing and prevaricating at its best. Remember the last time we had a so-called "expert" and "assistant" in the Mayor's office helping and making decisions? Yeah, you do. Her name was G L O R I A.

  8. Is this the refreshing, above the fray leadership we get when Sly gets attacked? This is a direct attack from the Sly James campaign on Mike Burke, when Burke's campaign didn't deliver the attack they are complaining about.

Immaturity, inexperience, and poor judgement in throwing this response together.

  10. This ad is not from Mike Burke. The STAR needs to retract their ill-formed assertions that Mike Burke had anything to do with this ad. It is just the gambit that Jason Kandar is looking for so He can play Sly James as the victim. Sending out a press release BEFORE he gets the facts is not the thing a leader does, unless he is a Funkhouser flash in the pan type. Kandar, you have dragged your candidate into the mud and you both stand there very much alone. Even Tony won't play!

  11. Sly James needed something to complain about. Nick Haines sure showed us the lack of depth that is the hallmark of Sly James. Yes, Sly is nice. But that is not enough.

  12. i guess when local 42 does their hit pieces this weekend we can blame all of that shit on Sly. local 42 is Pro-Sly. Thanks for the heads up. now i know who to hate when i go to the poll on tuesday....sly and local 42!

  13. Kandar, hold your fire little man! First- check your facts. Second- do not make your candidate look like a fool. Sly James doesn't deserve to be ill served by your shaky counsel. Jim Nutter pull the ad. Just who the hell do you think you are? Were you advised by worn out campaign consultants desperately seeking to be relevant? Is this what we can expect from the ETax campaign? If so we are screwed!

  14. Burke has screwed the city several times as a development attorney. Now we want the same guy to have an inside track in screwing the city. A vote for Burke is request for penetration with no vaseline. Burke is not a nice guy. Nice guys don't want to tax not for profit organizations. Nice guys don't put the citizens on the line for a tiff that won't meet revenue goals. Nice guys don't flip flop to win a race. The bottom line is Burke is not a nice guy and Sly should stop saying that. Sly is a nice guy. But Burke, is a shrewd and selfish capitalist who only shows benevolence to feed his love of money. Check his record. I'm not surprised at his negative campaign. I'm just shocked it took him so long to show those who didn't suspect it. I'm voting for Sly even though I think he is too nice sometimes.

  15. Burke staff working late tonight? We all know who this came from no matter who "paid" for it. Burke's a coward. Glad he finally showed his cards.

  16. On the other hand, the hastily prepared response made Sly look unprofessional and they realize it because you won't find it unless the media shares it because they took it down.

  17. Looks like another election in KCMO where the candidates get dragged around by the little gang of "consultants" who are happy to do and say pretty much anything to try to make names for themselves in this cowtown.
Then after the election, the real heavy insiders step in and run city hall from there on out.
Same old faces; same old game; same old terrible results for the residents.
Now explain again why the voter turnout is so low!

  18. If this is any indication of the way Sly gathers the facts before making a response I'd hate to see what Sly does with City services.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sly is out of money and can't compete on TV so he has to attack Burke in response.

  20. Negative HIT Piece from a PAC that supports SLY James against MIke Burke is hitting Saturday...Sly is not as holy as his press releases makes him out to be. From the Committee on Integrity...How fitting...
