VIOLENT CRIME DROPS BY 15 PERCENT BUT KANSAS CITY DOESN'T FEEL ANY SAFER WITH SO MANY MURDERS!!!

Some recent propaganda news regarding a drop in local crime makes me think of so many GULLY quotes that have informed my perspective on local crime.

Chinese proverb: "Kill One, Terrify Ten Thousand"

Mark Twain - "Lies, damned lies, and statistics"

The Wolf - "Well, let's not start sucking each other's dicks quite yet."

The story:

"Violent crime reported to Kansas City police fell 15 percent last year while property crimes decreased 2 percent, according to year-end statistics expected to be released today."

Fact . . .

Kansas City homicide is still trending upward.

This town still ranks high on the list of dangerous cities.

These stats never really make anyone feel safer.

So . . . Four years of a do-nothing Mayor and the local murder rate remains alarmingly high. So yeah, the fact that car-break in calls are falling off doesn't seem like a reason for celebration.

  1. Tell that to the victims. I'm sure that will make them feel better.

  2. Violnet crime may be more terrifying but having your home broken into or your car stolen has caused more of an exodus from KCMO. You pay double for car insurance, higher taxes for lower services and after a few years you tend to ask why? There are plenty of cities in the metro area that are safe, plow the snow and pave the streets. Not everyone wants to be a martyr so the cesspool that is KCMO government can continue to feast.

Your Mark Twain quote is right on the money, Tee. If there's one thing that you can count on the KCPD for, it's PR, statistical crap, and dog-and-pony shows. And we're sure to get moreof this the closer we get to the e-tax vote.
Gathering data is one thing, but actually changing priorities and tactics to CHANGE the environments that generate the crime numbers is something entirely different.
And the St Louis bill be bring their PD under local control just passed the House and mooved to the Senate in Jeff City. No interest in accountability in KCMO.
You can rest assured that expense accounts are well-supervised, though.
    What a tragic joke!

  5. Don't forget who the "keepers" of numbers are. Like are you really going to trust them?

Exactly! And don't forget the KCMSD. Why would you remain in KC when you can move a few miles east or west and send your kids to good schools while living in peace?

  7. Tony your an idiot.... it doesn't matter who the mayor is the murder rate will stay at 100 or more.

  8. It's hard to take TKC criticism seriously anymore. His aruments tend to marginalize his opinion.

  9. Homicide has dropped the last 2 years. How is that "trending upward"? Even Ernest Evans would see that...or not.

  10. I thought Alonzo was the keeper of the numbers???

  11. Crime is still rapid regardless of their stats. Houses being broke into and damaged on the outside and then Codes always shows up, like Crime and Codes work hand in hand making money for the city. And let's not talk about the arson problem with all the houses set on fire. That's a whole other problem that the won't discuss.

  12. Where you have $hitheads with no moral value you will have crime. Same reason po'dunk Missouri doesn't have (as much) crime...fewer $hitheads. Put the blame where is should be.

  13. The past two Police Chief's have been Northlanders and thus, protected by the likes of Hermann, Skaggs, Cooper, Loar, and every other Northland Council member before them simply because they live there.

Let's try a National search. What say you Burke?

  14. Dear 7:17 (Tony). No need to comment on your own posts.

Why didn't you run this BEFORE the election or was this because you wanted The Funkster OUT?

Fact is, Tee, you have no clue of people feel safer. They actually will when the mainstream press picks up on the story, since so few people read us bloggers. Including YOU!

No one cares about most of the people who are murdered... because they're likely criminals. If I were the police, I wouldn't even bother investigating except when innocents are killed by those punks.

Dear Anonymous 9:35: I am glad you read my comments on TKC!! As far as homicide stats in KCMO, since 2007 homicides in the white/asian/hispanic sections of the city have indeed declined--they were 32 in 2007--and 31 in 2008 and 29 in 2009 and 25 in 2010. The problem is the homicides in the black neighborhoods of the city: 62 in 2007 vs. 95 in 2008 and 81 in 2009 and 81 in 2010. Also, with reference to homicide stats and KCMO, some national perspective is important--all over the country cities are experiencing record low homicide numbers--but not in KCMO. So, the homicide problem with respect to the black neighborhoods remains quite serious--it is to be hoped that the new mayor addresses this problem. Take care--again, glad you read my postings!! Sincerely, Respectfully and In Christ, Ernest Evans

Cops can't do anything when victims won't prosecute. And retaliation just bumps the rate higher. Who do you blame for that?
