This morning The Star plays games with donation figures and revenue in order to justify ongoing Union Station FAIL . . . The fact is . . . The place is now nothing more than subsidized office space for out-of-town interlopers.
Even worse . . . The only hope for the future is the dirty, old dress of a famous dead white lady and the myth that people want to go to a never-ending wake for their "betters" rather than just get on with their own lives.
You know, after the election you might have to get positive about this city--negativity only lasts so long.
ReplyDeleteFunk's going down today...
Tony, I told you months ago that when good ol' Georgie Guastello took over Union Station he was turning into a high-rent office space. Then when Georgie let go a good number of staff, including the entire PR/marketing team and replaced them with an even more high-priced outsourced PR firm, this place was doomed to failure.
ReplyDeleteRemember, Georgie was brought to Union Station because he was allegedly a fantastic fundraiser for the American Royal. Please go ask Georgie how much money he has brought in to Union Station since he came aboard. Actually, you don't have to---it's ZERO DOLLARS.
Georgie is a dick sucker...Mmmmmmm tastes good huh Georgie?????
ReplyDeleteLet's not confuse the facts with a good story. Since the 1/8 cent bi-state sales tax that paid for renovation of Union Station expired ten years ago, not one cent more in taxes have been paid to keep the facility open and free to the public. The operating losses have all been paid by a private endowment that was established for that very reason, to cover the losses. However, the endowment is now running out of money and the big corporate donors are being squeezed to either come up with more money, or straighten things out and make it at least break even. That is what they are doing and it is a good thing, not a bad thing. Union Station is NOT owned by the City, and the City has very little to do with what happens there. However, U.S. does receive a very, very small amount of money from the City's Museum Levy to help operate it and keep it open. Behind the scenes, the business community ponied up and now is making it work. They should be congratulated for keeping this cool building, saving it from the bulldozers that were poised for so many years to bring it down. Take a look at Union Station in Detroit and then tell me how screwed up things are in Kansas City. Tony, you are a complete idiot and d-bag.
ReplyDeletebravo, 7:51.
ReplyDeleteand i'm sure the dress has been dry cleaned, tony.
Exactly how are the KCADC and the KC Chamber of Commerce "out of town interlopers?" WTF are you talking about T?
ReplyDeleteYou just need to check out the Union station buildings at Washington DC and St. Louis to figure out how much our city sucks at pursuing anything worthwhile at Union Station-KC. The only thing I can think of is that Halls will never allow any potential retail at the Union Station to compete with Crown Center. So we will just have to admire 30 year old wedding dresses and Entomology exhibits for the remainder of the building's existence.
ReplyDeleteUnion Station under the leadership, if you can call it that, of George "the Great One" Guestello III, CEO, COO, CFO, KOOK, NUT, GOOF, DICK, DUD will be begging the taxpayers of KC to pony up money to stay afloat. Notice that X-Chamber goofer Guestello has moved the Chamber into Union Station as a tenant. Hmmmm....sweet deal I bet. Anythere that dirtbag goes taxpayers get screwed. Look at the job he did on the American Royal. Took him 5 years to run a 100 plus year rodeo right out of town. Now it's the Prairie Circut Finals. Hell we have that every weekend in the backyard. LOL. Great job by "the Great One". Now once again "the Great One" is doing his magic at Union Station. What a douche bag this guy is. George you need to take a hike.....your a loser !
ReplyDeleteSt. Louis station? Its in the crapper. What are you talking about?
