TKC EXCLUSVIE!!! ONE-ON-ONE INTERVIEW WITH LOCAL ANTI-E-TAX CAMPAIGN SPOKESMAN WOODY COZAD!!!

On my way to learn more about the Anti-E-Tax Campaign organized by local business dudes I was lucky enough to run into the spokesman for the group, Woody Cozad. Mr. Cozad is an attorney and former chairman of the Missouri Republican Party. Kansas City news watchers know him from his regular appearances on KCPT's RUCKUS News talk show.

Here's a brief glimpse of our exchange with TKC questions in bold:

Tell me about this anti-e-tax campaign. What kind of group is it?

"Right now we're a collection of residents and business people who want to make sure there is a real discussion about the E-tax and what it means for Kansas City."

Are you getting cash from Rex Sinquefield?

"At this point no," Cozad said. "The Freedom PAC is funding a lot of this effort and we're raising money that way. But as of now most of our funding comes from people right here in the Greater Kansas City area."

What is your strategy?

"Obviously, we're getting the word out through traditional media but we're also using social media, online video and we're directing people to our website:

KCTAXREFORM.COM

That's the best place for people to get information about our efforts and participate in a discussion."

Do you live in Kansas City Proper and pay the E-Tax?

"Right now, no. but I have lived in this community for most of my life and recently decided that I wanted a home in the Country so that's where I moved. I also located my business out of Kansas City proper as well."

Do you have a plan to replace the E-Tax?

"If you're asking me if we have a line-by-line itemized replacement for every dollar of the E-Tax, the answer is no. However, through the course of this campaign we're going to offer more and more suggestions about how to substitute the E-Tax, cut waste and find ways to replace the E-tax WHILE sustaining jobs."

Thanks to Mr. Cozad for taking a moment to talk with TKC.

  2. According to my Gaydar, which I had recently calibrated, he is gay! Just look at him! And, really, why does he call himself "Woody"? QED.

  3. Tony, I think he was evasive on the following:

Are you getting cash from Rex Sinquefield?

"At this point no," Cozad said.

Does this mean he already knows that Rex will be kicking in cash in the future?

    And who is "Freedom Pac"

  4. Oh, he can't be gay. I think he has a huge woody for Mary O'Halloran. And Gwen Grant. I suppose he may be by, considering how hard he looks at Yael T. Abouhalkah sometimes. On second thought, maybe he is gay. Yeah, he must be gay for Jeff Roe too.

  5. Remember when Democracy wasn't for sale? Before a billionaire could hire scabs from out of state to circulate petitions for his pet cause because nobody locally would do it? How quaint.

  6. Who doesn't want a home in the country far away from this crap?

  9. KC losing the revenue from the E-Tax is like a big company losing a good customer. Sure it hurts, but you adjust and make the necessary cuts. In the end you grow stronger and become better. In this case, if you eliminate the E-Tax and maybe, just for fun, reduce the red tape involved in locating a business in KC, you can begin to compete with the suburbs (on both sides of the border) for jobs.

  10. While I'm sure kctaxreform is hoping for a Sinquefield contribution, I wouldn't count on it. Rex has made it clear that his role was to put the question in play. He's got the research backing his opinion that the E-Tax hinders growth and job creation (mostly BLS data) but he's hoping to see local activists take charge.

  11. We have a personal injury lawyer & development lawyer duking it out to take over the City. Anybody worried that they'll find a way to screw us? Not me, I feel confident we'll get screwed.

  12. Woody the Pecker.

Sucks down KC tax money for years as police board lobbyist.
