Just to demonstrate how much of a "junior" member I am of La Raza political club . . . I didn't get news of La Raza's endorsement of Mayoral Candidate Jim Rowland from my fellow members of the group but instead the message was sent by Rowland's people.
Nevertheless . . .
THE LA RAZA ENDORSEMENT OF JIM ROWLAND FOR MAYOR GIVES HIM THE SUPPORT OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MINORITY ADVOCACY GROUPS AND BIZ ASSOCIATIONS IN KANSAS CITY!!!
Rowland got the Freedom Inc. endorsement.
He also earned the Hispanic Chamber endorsement.
And I heard yesterday Lali called Rowland and informed him of the nod from La Raza . . . TKC Fun Fact: There are more than a few La Raza members on Deb Hermann's campaign literature.
TKC history lesson: Mayor Funkhouser solicited the endorsement of this group last time around AND THEY GAVE HIM THEIR APPROVAL!!! It was only a matter of months until he stabbed them in the back and started his downward spiral.
Again, TKC didn't have permission to print this one but I don't feel too bad about it given that The Star blogged but didn't print the Hispanic Chamber endorsement.
Developing . . .
Rowlands has big trouble with Gray as his campaign manager. The hate for him will transfer to Rowlands.
ReplyDeleteWell just another reason why I will not vote for Jim Rowland...
ReplyDeleteI second that
ReplyDeletechicken genius!
ReplyDeleteSounds like another payout like freedom. The westside likes James and Hermann.
ReplyDeleteLali must have got her money. Deb will whip his ass.
ReplyDeleteWow. Deb's supporters got nasty real quick. I guess their friendship doesn't go very far. That's not thinking to far ahead. Not even past the primary.
ReplyDeleteKind of shows how all you North Land KC people are racist.
Send Gray and Rowlands to Harrys for a drink they both will enjoy that more. Rowlands gets to keep his pad job and Gray gets drunk the same thing happens lately with Gray candidates anyway.
ReplyDeleteVote no on Gray.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Gray is spending Rowlands money for endorsements. And the Heavys are funding Gray ,but that didn't work too well for Riley.
ReplyDeleteTony, now you know what it is like to be a member of a group and then discover that the leaders made a major decision without your input. Makes one wonder how valid are all the publicized endorsements from Kansas City's "usual suspect" list of political groups.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how Gray finds a sucker every election he has lost more than the Royals in there worst season.
ReplyDeleteFact check. Didn't Rowland quit his job as City Councilman to work for the Sports Authority? I will not support a quitter (ala Palin) for Mayor. Will he also quit being Mayor (in the unlikely event he's elected) for the sake of a better offer elsewhere? Something to think about.
ReplyDeleteNow let's see: That's both Freedom and La Raza's endorsements, but isn't Rowland going to need more than a couple hundred votes to win anything?
ReplyDeleteAnd TKC! Not even any insider information from your own organization. They must already be moving on to someone more influential.
Maybe Theresa!!
I bet the guy don't even have a lowrider.
ReplyDeleteTony just cleans the toilet after La Raza takes a dump.
ReplyDeleteThe G-men for Rowland. Grey and Glorioso.
ReplyDeleteWow. He sounded like a good guy, but now he's endorsed by a racist organization that promotes breaking U.S. law. That's a deal-breaker for me.
ReplyDeleteRowlands needs more than Grays purchased endorsement to win.
ReplyDeleteAll of the other candidates are breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't get this political kiss of death.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how the only time anyone talks about "bought" endorsements are for groups comprised primarily of African Americans and/or Latinos. Forward Kansas City and BizPac and the Star are apparently pure and pristine seekers of the public interest.
ReplyDeleteNo racism there. No, none at all. Not a Rowland supporter, but this sort of casual racism still pisses me the hell off.
Rowland won't even carry the 4th!
ReplyDeleteSo Cris, Lali and Charlie support Jim Rowland? that there's 3 solid votes for Rowland.... maybe. Wait, I think Lali is with Deb.!!!
ReplyDeleteTony is voting for Wheeler out of spite.
ReplyDeleteSilly beans.
It doesn't mean jack!
ReplyDeleteRowland rocks. He brings people together and gets stuff done on time and on budget. Y'all are haters.
ReplyDeleteI just heard Rowland on KCUR--there's a man who sounds like a true leader--smart, experienced, progressive, and a lot more concerned about the money than the current mayor. I think I just made up my mind who to vote for.
ReplyDeleteAll endorsements are bought. Why do you think the average person gets nothing except for the bill.
ReplyDeleteRowland all the way.
ReplyDeleteI heard he had to promise to get Genero a city job. Why can't this guy find a job that's something he is worthy of and not what his wife can get him. Must be pretty embarrassing for your wife to have to find your jobs for you.
ReplyDeleteFor 10:01 am who is so upset about what he considers "casual racism".
ReplyDeleteYou might try meeting with some of the revs, committees, and other groups who you will find invariably have their hands out in order to support pretty much anything. It's not a racial observation; just a simple fact. And paying off the Citizens'Association, Forward KC, or anybody else is just as bad.
If actual residents participated in the democratic process in KCMO, none of this would really matter becasue the voter turnout would overwhelm the piddly influence most of these organizations have.
Your chance is coming up soon!
12:13 true leader, smart
ReplyDeleteHe have never met Rowland then!
Rowland was a crappy 4th district representive and did squat for most non-Brookside area neighborhoods. His Step N Fetch It routine with Troy Nash was absurd. So, does this mark the return of Troy (what's in it for me) Nash? Chief of Staff perhps.
ReplyDeleteThe absurdity of La Raza as meaningful political force continues. By the way, how much did they pay La Raza Political Club?
Rowland can take Gray and go to the devil. Gray is a bottom feeder who needs to be retired.
ReplyDeleteActually Gray already acts like he's retired. Rowland will notice that soon enough!
ReplyDeleteHow will LaRaza get it's payoff money now? The club cannot accept funds from a candidate's committee anymore, so how will Lali collect her cash?
ReplyDeleteBack to the Future?
ReplyDeleteHermann and Rowland’s Rhetoric Doesn’t Match Their Record
Kansas City – Mayor Mayor Mark Funkhouser today held a press conference in front of the Prospect North Redevelopment area of Kansas City.
In the press conference, Mayor Funkhouser exposed two of his opponents, Deb Hermann and Jim Rowland, for being behind many of the bailouts, boondoggles and blunders that led him to run for mayor four years ago and have compelled him to run for re-election.
Hermann and Rowland’s TIF Problems
During one of the most aggressive periods of tax giveaways from 2003 to 2005, the two Mayoral-hopefuls rubber-stamped 120 TIF deals[1] (plans, projects and amendments). And from 2006 to 2007, Deb Hermann voted for 70 additional TIF deals[2]. This year, the city has to pay $30 million[3] to under-performing Super TIF projects that Hermann and Rowland approved.
Debt and Taxes
While Hermann and Rowland served together on the City Council, the city issued $1 billion in debt, much of it going for bars, restaurants, hotels and parking garages. Together, they supported tripling the debt from $517 million in 2003 to $1.43 billion in 2007[4].
Hermann and Rowland paid for their taxpayer giveaways and debt with more taxes. From 2003 to 2006, the city’s total direct tax rate increased by 12.4%[5].
“I was there, as auditor, and saw what these two fiscal frauds were doing to the city,” said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. “Giveaways to developers, out of control TIF projects that cost Kansas City taxpayers millions upon millions and other crazy development schemes coming from politicians like Hermann and Rowland are the reasons why I ran for mayor in the first place.”
“Rowland and Hermann, the King and Queen of TIF, helped lead the city to the brink of fiscal disaster,” said Mayor Mark Funkhouser. “Their election year makeover doesn’t match their record. Hermann and Rowland will send the city back to the bad old days of rubber-stamping TIFs, issuing debt and raising taxes.”
Rowlands deserves Gray. He will be looking at alot of spent money and Gray will be in the Hamptons with his whole crew.
ReplyDeleteLong live the King of TIF
ReplyDeleteand the Queen
ReplyDeleteand the kids of the King and Queen of TIF
Wasn't La Raza acording to White Kansaas City a bunch if crazy ass, radical, racist Mexicans?
ReplyDeleteAt least Rowland isn't on drugs, like creepy Rizzo.
ReplyDeleteAt least Rowland isn't on drugs, like creepy Rizzo.
ReplyDeletewonder what the puppet master got from rowland this time around.
ReplyDeleteF (forget) grey-glorioso.
ReplyDeleteFour simple words to live by and remember always: ROWLAND IS A DICK.
ReplyDeleteRowland is the smartest guy in the room. Just ask him. Oh, he's tall too.
