KCTV5 offers the details on how billionaire will make like more expensive for everybody else in this town: "Kansas City Manager Troy Shulte said the city's bond ranking was lowered by a group over fears about the April earnings tax election. The rating group felt if repealed, the possible loss of $200 million would significantly hurt city finances. Shulte said that would mean the new cost of borrowing money would be felt by residents."

The reason the e-tax vote is likely to fail has nothing to do with money. It has to do with the incompetence, lack of credibility, simple waste, upside-down priorities, insider deals, and a complete lack of interest in the public by the elected officials who make believe they govern KCMO. There are many tens of millions of dollars that already go to pay bonds for development projects that are financially unsuccessful. The KCPD couldn't care less about serious stewardship to the taxpayers' money as evidenced in their refusal to work with the city on medical insurance and the recent expense report scandal. And many more millions are wasted $500,000 at a time on land deals, consulting fees, and programs that have no results like Aim4Peace.
ReplyDeleteAnd the last four years leading up to this vote have seen the very worst incompetnece and abuse in a very long time.
A new administration might have been able to save this by building some credibility, but timing is everything, and it's most likely too little too late.
Nice scare tactic to get the E-tax passed
ReplyDeleteI agree with 6:29.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of having my Tax dollars wasted while the City Elite wine and dine on my dime..... and the roads, sewers, and crime go un-addressed and un-repaired. Voting against the E-tax will allow voters a say in the taxation process. Time to end the political elites play money.
The E-Tax is Toast.
ReplyDeletePat Gray is Drunk (and rich).
ReplyDeleteDitto 6:29.."the incompetence, lack of credibility, simple waste, upside-down priorities, insider deals." And which of the candidates that made it out of the Primary represent your assessment? Yes, you are right, Mike Burke and ALL of the incumbent council members. Rembember the saying, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Who's insane in this case the elected officials or the voters? Who has (or has neglectfully abdicated) the power?
ReplyDeleteSinquefield has $ invested in privatization firms such as French Veolia and Koch Industries. His E Tax efforts are designed to hollow out the budgets of StL and KC forcing their administrations to sell their Airports and Water Departments. Clues: Check out Jim Berkfelt's client list and Deb Hermann's MEC Report.
ReplyDeleteAlong the way labor and local small business are the victims.
You read it here.
So what happened Tuesday? Voters Day. And the voters are fed up as taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteThis is about corruption, fiscal irresponsibility, and misuse of taxpayers funds.
When we see headlines like this "Kansas City police commanders, lobbyist charge taxpayers for pricey meal and booze at Capital Grille."
We need to use the right word to describe this problem -- it's called theft.
They are stealing from taxpayers' money to fill their pockets,
Being a public servant, is a service to your community.
"SERVICE" not "SERVE Yourself" at taxpayers expense.
7:10's on to the next big issue in town - privatization. Follow the $. Jim Berkfelt and Bill George. And add KCATA to the list of places labor will be targeted.
ReplyDeleteTroy Schulte is nothing more than a shill for the thieving bastards that have been there for years. The sooner there is an authentic city manager, the better off Kansas City will be.
ReplyDeleteKansas City continues the downward spiral and will soon be a very bad place to live.
ReplyDeleteRetired folks and those who pay very little eTax, you guys ready to start paying for trash service if the vote fails?
ReplyDeleteTony says that Kansas City residents will pay if the e-tax is voted out. Really? How can that be?
ReplyDeleteKansas City residents will save is the e-tax is voted out. Tony promotes the e-tax in order to redistribute the earnings of working people to the lazy deadbeats of Kansas City.
Tony - Fitch and other bond rating agencies were already under pressure for not recognizing financial issues such as (for example) unfunded pension liabilities. One criteria is - large pension deficits that were unlikely to be resolved within 20 years. That started more than 2 years ago and has affected about 25 cities of population 100K so far.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt the e-tax election risk is also a factor for KCMO and STLS. Especially since KCMO residents themselves voted to support PropA. However, the city's pension deficit might have triggered the downgrade on its own.
Bob Gough, you are a Kool-ade drinker in vast quantities. The elite have benefitted most from the E tax. They have allowed a few crumbs to be tossed out to the "lazy deadbeats" in order to placate the masses and also to have an ace in the hole by stirring resentment in lemmings like you for their future reference and use.
ReplyDeleteSo how did the city survive before the e-tax? The e-tax will force investment the urban core.
ReplyDeleteSo how did the city survive before the e-tax? The repeal of the e-tax will force investment the urban core.
ReplyDeleteI worked for 12 years in Overland Park. I drove on their streets, and, if necessary, would have had use of their police, fire and ambulance.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what? I didn't have to pay them an earnings tax!
The E-Tax is Toast.
ReplyDeletee-tax is going nowhere. Unfortunately, you crybabies in JoCo need to STFU and quit your KCMO jobs. If it's too much trouble to pay 1%, get a job in KS and someone in KC will gladly take your job.
ReplyDeletedon't borrow any money, problem solved :)
ReplyDeleteIF the e-tax doesn't pass...
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE WILL DIE!!!!1!1!!
