As much or more than anybody else . . . Sly James ran a very clean campaign.
1. He didn't go negative against Mayor Funky despite the fact it would have been fun and easy.
2. Lots and lots of community support and friends from all over Kansas City. And again, nobody has anything bad to say about the former Marine.
3. He was rather humble about having more money than EVERYBODY throughout the primary process.
Bonus: A pretty bad-ass hip-hop song in his honor by Kemet Coleman.
For these reasons and so many more . . . A LOT of people are voting for Sly today.
Tony you uninformed pricklet:
ReplyDeleteThere is no such thing as a "former" Marine.
Once a Marine, always a Marine!
Semper Fi!
Coorect the record.
DARLA JAYE ENDORSEMENT OF FUNK AND SLY. Tony, why have you not reported her announcements from last night?
ReplyDeleteTonight, Sly James' landslide victory over the Mike Sanders endorsed candidate (Deb "I need a job" Hermann) proves that Sanders has no support in Kansas City proper. In any upcoming primary for US Congress between Sanders and Sly James supporter Jason Kander, Sanders loses big time.
ReplyDeleteKander has established himself as a hardworking progressive voice in government. Mike Sanders sounds like a used car salesman, and continues to align himself with conservative and corrupt Eastern Jackson County.
Today's almost certain loss by Deb Hermann shows that Mike Sanders cannot win in a competitive election. Sanders has never run in one. He has never really had to put to gether a field organization or a persuasive direct mail program. Unlike Jason Kander, Mike Sanders has never had to work for his election -- Sanders has always used corrupt deals and intimidation to clear the way for himself.
Kander has the candidate skills, the organization skills, the fundraising support and the work ethic to beat Mike Sanders or any Sanders endorsed candidate.
Yea...Tony we all thought Darla was your buddy. If you don't prof her she should never have you on the show again!
ReplyDeleteThe thing that just concerns me about Sly is that he is a trial lawyer. Their job is to reach settlements. Sure, he is skilled at coming up with ways for everyone to walk away ok, but not a winner and not a loser. I think that will help him with conflict management but in this economy, I'm not sure it will help Kansas City. Hear me out. I think Kansas City had to make tough choices to get us through this economic downturn, The answer had to be a flat out no on many things. I don't think avoiding tough decisions by doing across the board cuts versus elimiating less priority programs is the right way to do business. His style seems to be one of spreading a little here and there to mediate. On the other hand, he has said he feels the urban core should get more because they need more and not divide by 6. His answers on KCUR were non committal. His answers in most forums are phylosophical without committing to a set purpose. I know he doesn't rub people the wrong way but I have no idea other than that what he WILL do. I know claiming to study your way through an election has worked before and may again. Just not sure I want to find out after he is elected what, if any, direction he will take.
ReplyDeleteSly moving to Leawood if he doesn't win. Said so.
ReplyDelete9:25 Never heard of him before he ran so won't matter where he goes after will it?
ReplyDeleteSanders endorsement of Deb wasn't about Deb winning the Mayor's race.
ReplyDeleteIt was about Sanders ingratiating himself to a moderate republican who could help him up north in the newly redistricted Missouri.
8:39, why so angry? What makes you think Deb needs a job? She volunteered for over 20 years - have you heard her complain about the need for a job? Chill out.
ReplyDeleteKander wins.
ReplyDeleteSanders loses.
10:10 Not to get in your spitting contest with 8:39 but I have been concerned about the same thing. She may have volunteered for 20 years but she got a pretty nice paycheck the last 8 and she may be influenced by losing it. That weakens her when it comes to making promises. I read KC Confidential and she actually pandered to them to get their endorsement by saying we need fewer DUI checkpoints and City inspectors shouldn't fine people for not having permits? That's the law and she's against it? Something's fishy.
ReplyDelete10:49, her paycheck is less than half of anyone else running, so re-evaluate the "pretty nice paycheck." Also, just outright lying about the rest - she never has said we needed fewer DUI checkpoints or suggested not fining people for lack of permits. Something's fishy alright, with everything you said!
ReplyDeleteWell I'm with Deb if she says the city should do fewer DUI checkpoints and assess fewer fines.
ReplyDeleteGovernment in the US may not shoot people in the streets but they do have a way of exerting their power by attacking us economically.
They seem to be in the business of incarcerating as many people as possible. I'm certainly not a Republican but I think government should be a little softer, not harsher. And less visible.
One would think people in government believe we're working for/subservient to THEM, not the other way around.
I don't really like the word 'government' because I really don't need to be governed.
Deb's not going to win tho. I agree, it will probably be Sly and Funk for the final lap.
And then the white wife, the Leawood comment and all of the Mickey Mouse lawsuits (against KCMO) roll out. Funk by a nose in the Final.
ReplyDeleteThe elites have dined on each others bullshit. LOL
Voting for Sly...
ReplyDelete11:58 Put down the Koolaide and look at KC Confidential's endorsement of James and Herman and read the article about her. It quotes her.
ReplyDeleteSome people just can't handle the truth.
As for her salary, she loses hers and the people running against her don't. Funkhouser actually has an education and skills to get one. My point is she is the one candidate desperate for a paycheck.
11:58 From KC Confidential on Deb Hermann
ReplyDelete"We need to invite new businesses not send them away," she says "Same with law enforcement. We control the police budget, we do have power with our police department. Let's use it to have fewer speed traps and more cops in hot spots to do what is important, protect the citizens."
Deb feels the DUI checkpoints are overused and produce little positive results other then making it appear police are on the job.
Her husband worked on nuclear subs in the navy and she traveled with him all over the country as a young lady.
"In every city we lived, I went and got a job right away in food service, as a waitress," she says. "So you bet I know the problems these small businesses are having in KCMO. Restaurants and bars stay clean because the owners want your business, not because control groups from the city come in and fine people or arrest them for failing to have a liquor card on them. This has to stop. We need to build up this city by inviting people to visit and live here, not run them off."
Sorry Deb - can't vote for you if you are associated in any way with Mike Sanders. I was going to vote for you, as a woman, but once I saw Mr. Greasy on your mailer, I changed my mind.
ReplyDeleteThe story of the day is Sanders' political failure in the form of the Hermann campaign, and without Funk as a bad example people will look critically at the Sanders Regime.
