Mayor Funky's going after Deb Hermann big time . . . Which might provide a hint about her campaign momentum.
First let's take a look at his "Triple Wide" newsletter that accompanies the clip:
8 February 2011
Dear Folks,
Primary Election
The Primary Election is two weeks from today. We can't believe we are closing in on this so quickly.
The Mayor's "Back To The Future" Press Event
The Mayor was relentlessly attacked in his first three years in office by The Kansas City Star, and now his fellow candidates are taking up their lead. But no worries here, as we know that it takes a courageous leader to be the voice of the people.
Funk held a press event yesterday to speak to the reason for the three years of bashing.
Basically it comes down to money and human nature.
For decades, the city's finances were hurtling toward the brink of disaster. No one had the courage to stand up and fight to fix that problem.
But four years ago Kansas Citians did something really odd. You elected an auditor to be your Mayor.
And because of your choice, the city's finances are now in the best shape they've been in for more than ten years, and this despite the worst recession since the Great Depression.
Righting the city is not for the faint of heart. It creates conflict, personal attack and ridicule from powerful interests. Hence, the reason for the bashing.
Progress has not been easy, but it's real.
Funk will take progress over ease any day.
A Little Video That Speaks To The Subject
Making Kansas City THE Safest City In America
Now that the Mayor has fixed the city's finances, he's on to his next goal: "Making Kansas City The Safest City In America." On this note, Funk has a phone conference with Mayor Bloomberg of New York and Mayor Booker of New Jersey. Both are Mayors who had terrible crime problems in their city that they successfully overcame. Now, their cities are currently safer than Kanas City, but with their help, Funk's going to eclipse them. Just don't tell them that!

Now it's time for a bit of TKC TIPSTER Fact Checking . . .
MAYOR FUNKY PRAISED DEB HERMANN BECAUSE OF HER WORK AS FINANCE AND AUDIT CHAIR!!!
Then . . .
MAYOR FUNKY RECENTLY NOTED THAT HE HASN'T BEEN PETTY AND DIDN'T REMOVE COUNCIL LADY HERMANN FROM HER COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS WHEN SHE DECIDED TO RUN FOR MAYOR!!!
HOWEVER . . . ALL OF THIS BEGS THE QUESTION THAT IF MAYOR FUNKY SUPPORTED AND PRAISED DEB HERMANN BECAUSE OF HER WORK THEN WHY IS HE CALLING HER A "FINANCIAL FRAUD" NOW?!?!
I guess the answer to this question will come right after somebody explains why Mayor Funky claims to be a TIF fighter but has voted or nearly all of them.
Funk's a moron. Vote him out.
ReplyDeleteWill never vote for Deb Herman she was part of the City Council that got us into this mess.
ReplyDeleteHermann is not the answer. Can you imagine other cities put off by the sight of Funkhouser, now seeing Hermann? Look like kissing cousins. Best line of the week is "Funk O Mania" by one of the candidates. Funk and Deb have lived that reality together. We need a clean break.
ReplyDeleteI'm not voting for either one, but Candidate Funkhouser's hack attack inaccurately portrays what Hermann position.
ReplyDeleteCan't stop laughing at the newsletter. "The Star attacked Funk relentlessly for three years." Give me a break, Squid.
Funkhouser's campaign is DOA.
Funk wins. Get used to the weird old white dude. He IS Kansas City, like it or not,
ReplyDeleteDespiration
ReplyDeleteNow we know why Funk has been videotaping all the mayoral forums.
ReplyDeleteExpect more of these "Truthwatch"??? Videos in the next weeks.
One of Deb's closest campaign advisors wants to repeal the law that cracks down on puppy mills. what kind of person could Deb be to support the torture of dogs?
ReplyDeleteBloomberg didn't clean up NYC...Guliani did and he did it with a very strong arm of the law. People are not prepared for that around here.
ReplyDeleteDeb speaks with forked tongue. She is not alone. None of them did anything but defeat his initiatives out of spite. They had the votes to take this city any direction they chose and did nothing. They are lacking in ideas and solutions but chose to defeat his. We need a new council. No matter who is elected Mayor there needs to be a spirit of cooperation on the council. There is no excuse and in my opinion they can't point fingers.
ReplyDeleteFirst, you don't need to go far to find other cities that do a much better job with public safety and community policing. Just drive across the state line and talk with the folks who run KCK. Additionally, there is lots of expertise and information available from the criminal justice departments at UMKC, Rockhusr, JCCC, and Park. Go talk to them.
ReplyDeleteAnd what's needed most in KCMO is someone with the guts and persistence to make public safety a high priority issue and pursue it relentlessly, day after day.
If Funkhouser thinks he has "solved" the city's finanacial problems, someone better tell him about the e-tax election.
Game over!
"Anyone but Deb" (8:48): Equating one of Deb's advisor's statements to Deb's supporting "the torture of dogs" is a hbit of a stretch, don't you think? (Or, do you think?)
ReplyDeleteYou've got to be a member of Funky's crazy family to (1) come up with that one and (2) to think even the most moronic reader wouldn't see throgh it.
I have been involved with several candidate screenings and the first time or two I thought Hermann was lock step with what the particular organization represented. Then after several more and some conflicting responses I realized she was telling whomever she was talking to what they want to hear.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Funk is going to win a second term.
ReplyDeleteNo one who voted to condemn the state of Arizona will get my vote. What stupidity.
ReplyDeleteHow long has he been using the royal 'we'?
ReplyDeleteOr, does he mean he & Gloria (their co-mayor-ship)?
THE CO-CONSPIRATORS Herman and Funkhouser are turning on each other. They were as happy as thieves when they had their heads together. Plotting against the city manager, lining up a replacement, blowing up MAST, fighting the Volunteer ordinance, whisper campaign against city hall workers who refused to be abused by the mayors, laying out the ground work to dismantle the Human Relations Department, planning to privatize the water department, messing with pensions, suing the city over Wayne and Gloria. Getting Granny Semler in place... and so much more. They were a delightful pair of frauds.
ReplyDeleteAre they Mayor material? I don't see how either of them should think so, nor the depths of their supporters. Gloria needs to keep the paycheck and Tim Krystl has BIG plans... yes, BIG PLANS.
10:58 -- what a conpsiracy theory that is. And like many, it is delusional.
ReplyDeleteI'd rather vote for Hermann than Funkhouser or Yael's newest man-crush, Sly James. Basically, anyone that Yael drools over is bound to be a bad mayor.
ReplyDeleteHermann didn't think that when she was courting him for the endorsement. Sour grapes much?
ReplyDeleteFunnkhouser has paid staffers calling people out of the phone book asking for money. Pitiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is better than Hermann, Rowland and Burke, selling taxpayers' money and their souls for campaign contributions
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone make a contribution to Funky he will only give it to his kids Tara and Andrew? Taking money under false pretenses.
ReplyDeleteamen 6:39, but NOT Herman!
ReplyDeleteIf Deb Hermann loses, do you think she will use her free time to get a college degree?
ReplyDeleteIt is apparent that the other Candidates are far superior to Funkhouser. He was never Mayoral material and that's a fact. Gloria knew it and that is why she stuck so close to him. The sad truth is she didn't know shit herself.
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:08 PM
ReplyDeleteNotice that you said 'college degree' & not an education.
Only a college graduate would attempt to determine the 'smartest city' by counting the number of college degrees.
Uneducated people think that you shouldn't believe your own propaganda.
Believe it or not, Mark got his Ph.D. because he has an inferiority complex. Except for ego, there is little other reason to get a Ph.D. in Government.
Wow, according to what I read here these two are either polar opposites or exactly the same. No matter. Hermann has my vote. (Unless I start seeing Funk's name in HER campaign.)
ReplyDeleteI guess Burke supporters have little else to do than bash Hermann and even Rowland on this site. What's the matter Burke Babies? Does Mike need to go to the bank and draw out some more cash to prop up his failing and flailing campaign?
ReplyDeleteHermann is a piece of shit. she helped get us into the shithole cowtown that is Kansas City. I wonder how else she could make it any worse??? Vote her in again and see.
ReplyDelete"One of Deb's closest campaign advisers wants to repeal the law that cracks down on puppy mills."
ReplyDeleteWhich campaign advisor? Most puppy mills are in out-state MO. Little local economy impact, but animal lovers do care. Who is this advisor? And does Deb Hermann agree? Will she refuse donations from this person because the proposition did pass in Missouri and is currently being attacked in Jeff City. The answer sheds light on her character. I hope that this is just campaign lunacy.
Sly for Mayor!
ReplyDeleteDeb got a makeover. Hair. make-up and all. Woowhooo what a looker...
ReplyDeleteSame with her voting record and other personal traits. Problem is day after the wedding she will return to the same meamn old hag she was before.
