Keep KC Alive Strikes Back

Just an example of Pro-E-Tax Pushback . . .

OPPONENTS OF THE CITY'S EARNINGS TAX HAVE FINALLY COME FORWARD . . .

Woody Cozad, who in November said he only wanted residents to vote for Proposition A so Kansas Citians could decide, now is asking voters to wreck the city finances, drive off business, and let Johnson County residents and others off the hook from paying for city services they use. Ironic that Cozad selected the public library funded by taxpayers to hold his announcement interviews to urge defeat of the Earnings Tax on April 5.

Dan Cofran of the Save Kansas City Committee will respond to the opponents today at 3pm at the campaign headquarters, 1204 Grand, downtown . . .
##############
The response was a repeat of most of the arguments from the Pro-E-Tax rally but I thought it was interesting to see E-Tax supporters go after Cozad personally.

It worked: Patrick McInerney, the president of the police board, says in an e-mail that Cozad's contract has been terminated because of his support of the e-tax repeal.

Strangely, it's folks supporting the E-Tax who fear for their livelihood and cash but in this instance we Cozad taking the hit for his E-Tax stance.

Developing . . .

  1. Good first step.

Follow it up with an audit of his expense reports and invoices for payment.

  2. Woody suggests the e-tax can be replaced by cutting fraud and waste.

    Start with him.

  3. "Patrick McInerney, the president of the police board, says in an e-mail that Cozad's contract has been terminated because of his support of the e-tax repeal."

LOL I thought the whole augment for having a Police Board was to stay out of local politics? And the big argument is the Tom Pendergast era.

Looks like the Police Board is playing politics to me. So much for the crooked politician argument against local city control of KCPD.

Looks like the ethics commission needs to get involved. The PD tells it's employees they can not even have a political sign in their yard. BUT a Police Commissioner can do this ??????? Hypocritical.

  4. It's OK to keep Cozad if he tows the political line for the police department in Jefferson City ????
(meaning higher salaries, benefits etc.) But he loses the Contact if he against the E-Tax???

    And KCPD is NOT political???????
Who does KCPD think they're fooling.
    Time for local control.

  5. KCPD beg and pleaded with Taxpayers to pass the 15 year public safety sales tax. And we did.
And what do the Taxpayers get......

"Kansas City police commanders, lobbyist charge taxpayers for pricey meal and booze at Capital Grille."

    From the KC Star:
In all, Lewis and Stewart charged about $7,000 last year in meals, gas and other expenses for about 80 days' worth of work between them. They also charged about $5,000 for lodging. In 2009, they charged about $7,600 in meals and expenses and about $6,000 in lodging.

  6. 7:17pmis exactly right. McInerney and the rest of the police board are clueless drones who sit on the sidelines and watch over 100 murders take place in KCMO year after year and don't press for the slightest change in the way the kCPD operates.
But expense reports, Ollie Gates'parking lot, seatbelts, and now a lobbying contract...wow, that same bunch of duds ae johnny on the spot.
I would suggest they revisit the statute creating the police board and read it out loud at their next meeting. Then they might have some idea of just what their role is supposed to be.
By the way, the legislation giving St Louis local control of the police just passed the House and headed for the Senate in Jeff City. As usual, there is NO LEGISLATION even proposed to do the same for KCMO.
How we can all stand by and just watch as the crime and violence continue to spread throughout the city, is hard to understand. And please don't buy into the report from the KCPD today that crime is down. It's nothing more than a typical PR move to shore up support for the e-tax vote.
The governor really needs to accept the resignations of this sorry crew and appoint some serious people to the police board.

  7. Incredibly unethical behavior there on the part of the KCPD. I was at a meeting where the police handed out a multi-page document with a dark blue background covering every page. They must have spent several year's worth of ink for the average printer on that. It was about what kind of cuts would come if the etax were repealed.

Just how much corruption can this town tolerate?

A lot, judging by Tuesday's election results.

  9. Jeffie Roe and company must still be smarting from their Mayor Funky smackdown and looking for redemption to prove their relevance.

  10. A Major at KCPD makes about $85,000.00 a year. (not including benefits) And these Majors (Lewis and Stewart) are spending another $7000.00 in meals, and $5,000 in lodging?

And KCPD wants MORE money for the PD?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Naw, Roe and company are not smarting from having their collective asses handed to them.

It's just that consulting revenues would be lower than projected due to Roe's losing campaign for Funky.

Roe thought he'd be able to bill the Funky campaign for at least for another 30 days through the primary.

Funky 's unexpected primary loss turned off the flow of money and to avoid lay-offs, Axiom moved straight into No E-Tax mode.

And again, Roe really doesn't care if he wins the e-tax campaign or if he loses.

Just so long as he gets paid.

  13. Cozad's contract was terminated because he is against the e-tax. I wonder if a city employee could lose his job by voting for Funkhouser.

This act speaks volumes about the mindset of the political class in this town.

  14. Roe's PACS (Like Freedom et.al.) will indeed be writing some big checks over the next month or so.

Remember, this is not about principle, politics or philosophy.

This is simply about Roe and his minions getting paid.

  15. Cozad's KCPD lobbying contract called for him to work to further the interests of the KCPD.

The KCPD will be decimated without the E-TAx, and feel that renewal of the e-tax is in the PD's best interests.

Cozad's knew BEFORE he choose to oppose the e-tax what the PD's position was and made his choice.

And the PD acted rightly to allow Woody to suffer the consequences.

  16. Stupid fucking Axiom posters.

    The roads aren't THAT bad.

    GO HOME!

  17. Several hundred City employees lost their jobs by voting for Funkhouser.....in 2007!

  18. Woody The Crook2/24/11, 8:28 PM

Wonder if Woody paid all his e-taxes for time spent in KC working for KCPD?

Maybe it's time to shine some Sunshine on his time sheets and his e-tax submittals.

  19. "Cozad's KCPD lobbying contract called for him to work to further the interests of the KCPD."

Typical KCPD further "our interest" but not citizens of Kansas City's.

  20. jolie justus FAIL. do we need to do a petition for a constitutional amendment to make this happen? oh wait she is going to take that away.

  21. lol @ "driving out businesses". I'm pretty sure the Democrats in KC have been driving out businesses for decades now.

  22. "Cozad's contract was terminated because he is against the e-tax. I wonder if a city employee could lose his job by voting for Funkhouser."

Really? I have no dog in the fight, but that's your analogy?

  23. Has anyone considered that we are about to rationalize electing either a rich development attorney or a rich ambulance chaser and we are throwing stones at a campaign consultant?

    Just sayin...

    As for Cozad, That stinks.

I want local control. I have never supported it before but it is time. Current events clearly show they feel untouchable and are acting like unsupervised children. We need to either force Jeff City to set them free or step in and handle their problem and hat incluides paying for it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. One might ask why Cozad had a contract in the first place? Why does the KCPD need a lobbyist? Why have our political entities become so entertwined that they lobby each other? If there are issues that need to be addressed at the capitol I would think the chief would have enough respect to get an audience with legislators. A serious audience, not one at an expensive restaurant. Maybe I'm just naive but if these elected officials were truly public servants that is how it would work.
