Good Money After Bad: Kansas City, Missouri School District Needs Millions For Maintenance

The Star: The Kansas City School District is contemplating borrowing about $50 million to ease its building woes.

TKC QUESTION: DID ANYBODY ASK ABOUT ALL THE MONEY CLOSING SO MANY SCHOOLS WAS SUPPOSED TO SAVE?

Comments

  1. Covington spent the money on the retirement "incentive." He spent millions last year paying off 200 or so teachers who would have retired anyway. If he had analyzed the data or asked someone, he would know that every year for at least the last 10 years, about 200 teachers retire. The Board is allowing Covington to do that again this year. This Board and Covington's legacy will be the way they drained the district of all of its financial resources in the name of rightsizing....it's more like capsizing....

  2. No accountablity from the new Board. What happened to the $50 million annually to be saved from the downsizing?

Show me the money saved first!

  3. Nobody wanted to listen when the opposition was asking these questions back then....so too bad, suck it up!!!

  4. They could save some money by getting rid of the closed schools instead of keeping them for "storage."

  5. Just use the E-tax money --- Oh I forgot that was wasted on police fine dining, co-mayor lawsuits, hiring political consultants to support keeping the e-tax, etc.

No money for keeping the schools going. Too busy wasting tax dollars on other things.

  6. What happened to the $34m interest free bonds that the BoE approved last year? The CFO's numbers are not adding up!
