Yael T. Abouhalkah: "I am sorry for my early, enthusiastic, repeated and eventually successful support of Mark Funkhouser for mayor in 2007."

This is a NEWSFLASH!!! For once, A Kansas City Star Columnist Admits A Mistake:
YAEL T. ABOUHALKAH APOLOGIZES FOR HIS SUPPORT OF MARK FUNKHOUSER!!!
It's a move that captures the zeitgeist of every rational person currently following the Kansas City Mayoral election right now . . . I think he waited too long but this is just one of many people that Mayor Funky has alienated with his stubbornness, strange commitment to keep his wife as a part of his administration and overall failure as an elected official.
Read the apologies here:
Don't drink the Funkhouser Kool-Aid again
The Funkhouser magic vanishes
Here's the money line that loses the election for Mayor Funky:
Kansas City Star columnist Yael T. Abouhalkah: "I am sorry that — despite knowing him well for his 18 years as the highly competent city auditor — I couldn’t predict Funkhouser would turn out to be a largely ineffective, unnecessarily combative, nothing’s-ever-my-fault, spouse-controlled shell of a mayor."
A couple of years ago just about every voter in town came to this conclusion, I'm glad to see The Star finally catch up to the rest of Kansas City.
Yes he is sorry now,but Yael seems to be back in the pack with Nutter and the other big money people who backed Funk and now are for Hermann. Same rationale -- she knows the budget, it does not matter that she has NO leadership skills. Other cities will be laughing at us again if she is elected, "Oh here comes the short version of the Funk".
ReplyDeleteYael retracted his endorsement long ago. At least he has the integrity to admit he fucked up. Unlike the Funkys
ReplyDelete"It's a move (that) captures the zeitgeist of every rational person".....Not me. My zeitgeist is still attached.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely pompous ass Abouhalkah is. He acts like he runs the entire newspaper and he is the one who singlehandedly got Funkhouser elected.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Nutter and the others stopped supporting Funkhouser because he wouldn't kiss their ass when he was elected.
Nutter only backs candidates who can help his business interests.
I can t wait until that same apology comes for Crystal.
ReplyDeleteYael is the epitome of supporting the status quo, and only when his choices are so clearly disasters, like the co-mayors, does he ever step back, and only then to criticize the individuals, not the terrible system that produces one after another of them.
ReplyDeleteHe actually wrote a piece that proaised the KCPD's response to the first Plaza flash mob, when anyone who was there laughed at what an obvious joke it was.
Yael, the other folks at the "Star", and the whole media scrum need to ask some serious well-infomed questions BEFORE the elections, not wring their hands afterward.
Funk isn't wrong as often as Yael the Wandering Gnome and you would like to think, T. Former TKC fav and City Manager Wayne Cauthen couldn't even get a job in tiny Savannah, Ga. Check it out.
ReplyDeleteYael T. Abouhalkah is a joke for a columnist. When has he ever been on the right side of anything?
ReplyDeleteYael T. Abouhalkah,
ReplyDeleteI am distressed to see you trying on sackcloth and ashes. There is no need to act so dolefully. Everyone who doesn't own an electrical contractor company has disowned Funkhouser. He has even alienated his most stalwart Tea Party members with his spendthrift ways of our tax dollars.
We now know what mean, vengeful, thin skinned and unqualified look like. The only mistake you can now make is to throw your support to the female, uneducated version of Funkhouser. Let's not screw up again.
Why bring up Cauthen? Deb and funky worked as a team for years. Cauthen was one of their targets. They actually enjoyed firing that man. Thy are the same thing. They are both mean to the bone.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Abouhalkah's long knives are out for Funkhouser.
ReplyDeleteBut take heart, mayor.
Yael endorsed Surbaugh and Biggs and Quick and we all know what happened to them.
To say this columnist is out of touch with the local populace would be an understatement.

Who cares what Yael thinks .
ReplyDeleteYael does.
ReplyDeleteAbouhalkah is a bitter, hateful establishment stooge. Funkhouser's crime in Abouhalkah's eyes is that he has not paid adequate homage to the establishment.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if KCMO needs a new mayor, but The Star needs some new columnists with, as has been pointed out above, some idea of journalistic ethics.
Same goes for our local PBS station. It's pretty clear that they too have been co-opted by the powers that be and wouldn't say shit if they had a mouthful.
Just remember Yael wants us to support the E-Tax. He's wrong on the e-tax too.
ReplyDeleteVOTE no E-TAX !
Yael is using Funkouser to save the

Readership of Midwest Voice has declined by 70% in last year.ONlY10,000 visitors in October. Apparently No one want to read his unprofessional and bias story.
The Star has no business endorsing anyone. They are critical of public-private eco-development when they got one of the best city deals in recent history. Hypocrit.
ReplyDeleteYael should report on Raytown where he lives
ReplyDeleteJust because Hermann and Funk had a common desire to (rightly) get rid of Cauthen doesn't mean that they are in cahoots. Funk hates Deb and fears her, yet he needs her budget skills, since he has none. There is no way to reasonably or intelligently compare Deb to Funk. She might not have Funk's Ph.D., but her common sense and insightful life experiences bring a wealth of knowledge this city needs. And nothing scares Deb. Not Louie, not Gray or Glorioso, nothing. She is thoughtful and fearless and intelligent. I'm voting for her and asking my friends and neighbors to do so too.
ReplyDeletecut $15 million from Police and Fire, and give stadium $2 million is Deb Hermann
ReplyDeleteWho reads the KC Star anymore?
ReplyDeleteCut $15 million from Police and Fire .... Good idea but cut more from the Police than fire. The Cops are performing poorly. Pay for Performance.
ReplyDeleteThe Ruckus crew all needs to go. The answers are so predictabble.
ReplyDeletePopcorn Vendor and Waitress as credentials for mayor. Saying we will be the laughing stock is an understatement.
