TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! KANSAS CITY MAYORAL AND CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATES AT GOP FORUM LAST NIGHT!!!

There was a pretty good gathering at a GOP South Kansas City forum last night . . .

THANKS TO A KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER FOR THE PHOTOS!!!

The Dynamic Duo adorning the top of this post Terrence Nash (6th District) and Tracy Ward (6th District At-Large) were both in attendance.

City Council Lady and Mayoral Contender Deb Hermann was also at the forum.

Highlights . . . Jim Rowland and Mike Burke slugged it out on the subject of small biz accessibility in Kansas City. Rowland called out Burke for being a successful and high-paid lawyer . . . I guess that's an insult in this election cycle despite the fact that rich, white guys arguing with each other is the opposite of what most people find interesting.

Mayor Funky proposes more cops and not much else as a solution to crime.

Henry Klein did A LOT better than most people expected with a surprising amount of support among the smallish blue-hair audience.

Sly James was out sick. Feel Better, I'm guessing you didn't miss much.

Also in the audience were candidates Mahlon Davis, Angel, and Wood, and several former candidates including Jacob Turk.

All things considered the GOP event was slightly more intriguing than watching Grey's Anatomy but not by much.

  1. So is Deb a Republican or not?

  2. So is the mayoral position nonpartisan,or not?

  3. What About Me?1/7/11, 6:37 AM

There surely must be moe ways we can divide ourselves up and make beieve that only OUR views are important and only OUR needs should be met.
    Republicans/Democrats; white/black,Latino/Asian; young/blue haried;rich/poor; and on and endless on.
KCMO has only 480K residents, but we keep making believe that we're this big "diverse" place and that what diversity means is not an interesting society of creative successful people, but a tiny bunch of shouters calling people names and making threats and demands.
Just more bush league inferiority complex KC crap!

  4. When adjusters get that package thing through an attorney with documents, pictures and also other records and etc. For how long does it typically state in the letter to reply? Do adjusters really reply by or on the date? Just how do they respond by phone, e-mail, letter or fax?

  6. Tony, your tipster failed to tell you the real scoop. Funk in his opening remarks pandered to the conservative GOP crowd with a ringing defense of Frances Semler !! It was unbelievable. And Deb Hermann truly is bi-partisan. She was a Republican committee before she became a Democratic Clay County committee women just in time to run for Mayor.

  7. Non-partisan, yes. Non-political, no. I would very much like information on every candidate's overall political philosophy before I vote.

For example, finding out that Tracy Ward was just another neo-liberatarian, tea partier who screams "individual liberty" and thinks she can have all the benefits of living in a modern city without paying for them told me all I need to know.

The Republican Party has quite a record of exploiting that philosophy while the country goes to hell in a handbasket.

Note the way they slashed taxes, fought two wars in which the only sacrifices made were by those doing the bleeding, and rang up unheard of deficits then blamed Obama for them.

  8. Anon, 7:27. Interesting.

Part of Funk's strategy the last time was convincing Latino voters not to vote for the black guy. And practically the first thing he does is appoint a Minuteman to the Park board.

Since he's not going to get five Latino votes this time around, I guess he's got to hope that the xenophobes show up in droves.

  9. Reject Science Says Tracy1/7/11, 7:46 AM

I bet Tracy felt at home among women with unnatural hair color, and voters who know the Earth is flat.

  10. The Lingering Smell of Bigotry1/7/11, 7:47 AM

Tony was one of those Latinos who supported Funk rather than vote for a Black man.

  11. Rowland is far from a "rich guy". What he makes at the county is far from big $ and he lives in a modest and pretty beaten down home. He also has kids in college and a wife who's had medical issues. Tagging "rich" on him is not accurate whether or not he's the best candidate or not.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lingering: That should have been a lesson --- don't get too infatuated with any candidate who calls themselves "new school" or whatever, and promises to shake up the status quo. That's easy to do.

The hard part is finding exactly where they stand and with whom, and what they really plan on doing once they get into office.

But I see that Tony is acting as Tracy Ward's campaign manager, and if he -- or anyone else with working grey matter -- would stop for a moment to read and analyze her Tea Party politics, they'd be appalled.

But hey, isn't it so cool to say you are "anti-establishment"?

    Got Funk elected. Who else?

    ReplyDelete
  13. That she found an ally, Lembke, in Jeff City in her signature fight against the burning issue of the day -- the scourge of red-light cameras -- also speaks volumes.

Tracy Ward is basically Sarah Palin with pink hair.

  14. Blue hair = bad.

    Pink hair = good.

  15. I wonder how Sly would have fared with this group. Do you think he was really sick? Or do you think he knows a lost cause when he sees it?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Rowland = longtime high-paid bureaucrat
Burke = longtime private business leader

Wonder who would have the best perspective on business issues?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow there was a lot of candidates there, Tracy Ward, Mahlon Davis, Wood, Turk. Should have been there had a couple of question for them all.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Things are looking up for Mahlon Davis, he just might take the %th District at large seat. Good luck Mahlon.

  19. Things are looking up for Mahlon Davis, he just might take the 5th District at large seat. Good luck Mahlon.

  20. The mayoral forum was hosted by the First Thursday Club, which meets on the first Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm in the basement of St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Red Bridge Road just east of Wornall Road in south Kansas City.

  21. The Episcopal Church is the church of the rich Englishman. St. Peter, the 'poor' fisherman who owned a large house & three fishing boats. Its no surprise that this is where the Republicans had their surrey.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Ever notice Burke & Rowland keep agreeing with Sly James even when he is not present.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Now the Funk & Deb are agreeing with James. Everybody loves James?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Kanders:
You've spent up to $300,000 and Sly James still is at zero name recognition. Give it up.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ward is happy because she just got out of the shower after taking six guys loads in her face. She said it burned a little then it got into her eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Deb looks like she just came from a 6 hour FBI grilling.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just scrolled down to the bottom, disregarding all posts.

    Slow newsday, huh Tony?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I hear there is a meeting at Jim Nutter's office today to pick the new Mayor and Council.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Did Rowland mention that his crime-fighting plan is essentially the same as the one Deb Hermann already proposed?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Who beat the shit out of Deb before that meeting. OMG what a poor appearance. Thought Funks look was "Lurch" like but Deb looks just terrible.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Backscratching isn't uncommon in politics.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Radioman, you shouldn't have skipped all the way to the bottom. You were being insulted repeatedly in the first dozen or so posts.

    Ha! Ha! Made you look!

    ReplyDelete
  33. GEEEZ, it's not even Rizzo/Royster. I don't think I can take two more months of this.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anyone running against deb should take this photo and use it. She looks horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This Ward woman doesn't seem to really look like some of her publicity photoes.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I meant "photos."

    ReplyDelete
  37. In fact, Ward and Hermann look enough alike to be sisters.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 12:05 what do you look like? That's what I thought.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "I just scrolled down to the bottom, disregarding all posts. Slow newsday, huh Tony?" quote from Radioman.

This was the guy that was going to "boycott" TKC.

LOL he has his own blog but keeps coming back to TKC. His regular following of TKC speaks volumes.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "GEEEZ, it's not even Rizzo/Royster. I don't think I can take two more months of this."

I second that emotion: Young adults act more like children than adults.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good, Tracy. You are toning down the hair color. Do it gradually and people will start listening to your message instead of gawking at your hair.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Very nice, clearly local politicians need to pose with smiles when TKC takes pix.

They all know how many times a picture will show up on TKC whether stories are good or bad.

Smile always, give TKC some decent photos that are FRIENDLY. NEVER NEVER show a negative face, or He'll nail you over and over!

He loves it cuz it makes him feel very connected to KC politicos.

And he'll show you in a much better light than he has in the past! ALWAYS SMILE FOR HIM! ALWAYS!

Tony LOVES to show how well connected he is and how much you love him. So always SMILE for his photos!

Smile for him and he'll show you smiling when he writes bout you! In Reporter vernacular, we call that "QUID PRO QUO!"

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hah. Good one Radio.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Man the Harpoons.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Deb Herman looks like she just got off of a 6 day drunk, and rode straight in on the short bus.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Vote all newbies, thats the only way to change city hall.

    ReplyDelete
  47. For the record, Deb has been truly sick with a horrible cold. She'll be well next week. Rowland, however, will still be a dick and Burke will still be corrupt.

    ReplyDelete
  48. And Funkhouser will still be Funkhouser.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Man, this radioman dude is seriously jealous of Tony.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Will never Vote for Deb Herman or anyone else that is a part of City Hall.

    ReplyDelete
  51. There is some good at City Hall. The intelligent people can discern the difference. Hermann is one of the few good things there. I'm happy to vote for her.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Will never Vote for Deb Herman. She part of the problem not the solution.
