If Mayor Funky had any political skill, the ability to form a consensus or even the least bit of real principal regarding the good government game he talks . . . He might be worthwhile. Instead, The Mayor has spent four years denying he's a politico and then makes a typical political hit piece video.
Interesting note for the Kansas City blogosphere . . . He cites local blog The Kansas Citian in one of his clips.
Now, I read the Kansas Citian, it's fun and always has an alternative view of the news but that's Mayor Funky aligning himself with a blog that gives credence to wing-nut Obama birther attacks . . .
But even worse: Mayor Funky calls the the disaster of his Administration and so many controversies "pseudo-scandals" and attempts to gloss over them.

Co-Mayor Funky is imagining an enemy in the media and among political operatives . . . He only needs to look in the mirror if he would like to blame someone for all of his tragic mistakes.

ReplyDeleteNo, Funk doesn't win. He and his wife have cost the city not only a LOT of money due to their racism, lies, and ugly behavior, they have embarrassed the city terribly. They've created a tone at City Hall that cries out for change--and silly videos like this will not help him win.

We need a charter change where we do away with at-large members of council, increase the number and reduce the size of council districts and strengthen the mayor's powers. Under such a system, public accountability would be greatly increased.

ReplyDeleteIf government were entertainment, KCMO would be the acting capital of the world. Unfortunately lots of residents are murdered, water pipes break, insiders make lots of taxpayer money, streets and sidewalks crumble, businesses move for much greener pastures, and on and on.
ReplyDeleteAnd the voters in KC just keep doing the same thing, electing the same kinds of people, and sitting back and complaining about the carnival, even as they buty tickets for the next show.
Funk may try to blame everyone else, but so do all the folks who can't even take the time to vote. What's going to happen in the upcoming elections? Serious change like at the school district; or the same buffoonery that ends up making life tougher for everyone?
The mayor's wife might have cost the city close to a million dollars but the council cost it 2.5million by demanding to have a minority judge. Where's the outrage Tony? Or did you not read today's newspaper

REVIEW FOR US (and those who NEVER DID ACTUALLY KNOW) Who the hell is Steve Glorioso? Where did he grow up, how does he make his living, why is he important?
ReplyDeleteGlorioso is an alleged liberal and a definite political operative. He used to write for (I think) the New Times and was on Ruckus in its early days. He had (at least) his head up Mayor Kay's ass and his (and her) dirty tricks against Funkhouser (who objected to taxpayers' funding developers) probably generated enough voter outrage to put Funky over the top in 2007.
