Mayor Funky's Campaign Kickoff Spin

The latest Mayor Funky video with a handful of supporters clapping is kinda sad but only because he keeps twisting reality.

Highlights:

Mayor Funky says: "Your City's Finances TODAY, are the strongest they've been in a decade" . . . Not really correct but if you grant him the basic premise it's worse pointing out that this decade has been the worst for KC economically since this cowtown was founded.

Mayor Funky Says: "We're doing incentives where it matters, where there's a market failure and a reason." Funny, I remember a Briarcliff hotel being part of Mayor Funky's TIF criticism until early 2007.

Another blog explains: "After asserting he would not support tax breaks for a hotel and office complex in Briarcliff during his 2007 mayoral campaign, the City Council (including Funkhouser) unanimously approved just such a deal today. The planned development has been scaled back in the recent years, with 120 instead of 175 hotel rooms and office and conference space to be added later."

Mayor Funky also takes credit for Jan Marcason's work on sewers.

Sadly, Mayor Funky doens't even mention public safety or the Kansas City homicide rate that has remained horrifically high on his watch.

Every bit the politico . . . It's tragic to watch a so-called reformer become a big part of this town's problem.

Update: Maybe a bit personal but I took the term "truth" out of the post title . . . I know everybody seems to have their own so I don't really bother discussing what people consider "truth" but Mayor Funky's comments undoubtedly qualify as SPIN

  1. Reading Tony's post was bad enough.

Watching the video made me sad and sick.

Funkhouser's delusion and desperation are displayed front and center.

5 more weeks until this nightmare ends....

And, according to Funk, in the next four years he intends to make KCMO the safest large city in the country.
I guess we're going to pin a badge on Gloria and let her pack heat, becasue at this point, she's about the only one in the Funk posse.

  4. Someone, please ask "smart with the money" Funkhouser how the City is going to pay for $3 Billion in Sewer construction. He has no clue. And when sewer rates go up 800% watch the exodus from KC begin!

I will ask Jan Marcason to figure it out and then once the plan is ready, take all the credit for it.

Funky approved the tax breaks for Briarcliff after Charles Garney made large contributions to his campaign.

Wouldn't surprise me if Funky even got a couple of highly lucrative speaking engagements out of the deal, too.
