Two things about last night's UMKC debate that have come to light . . .
A VERY DEFENSIVE Mayor Funky invokes City Council Lady Deb Hermann in his own defense.
Today Yael T. Abouhalkah caught the Mayor making a false statement.
"Funkhouser said that former Mayor Emanuel Cleaver had dumped City Council member Dan Cofran as the finance chairman when Cofran decided to run against Cleaver in the 1995 mayoral race (which Cleaver eventually won).
Funkhouser’s statement was false.
In fact, the incident occurred in 1993, almost two years before the 1995 race. Indeed, removing Cofran as the finance chair probably led to Cofran challenging Cleaver."
Even worse . . . Mayor Funky forgot about his own vindictive and petty nature . . .
He slapped the 4th District in the face and removed our representative Jan Marcason from all of her committees in a move that seemed torn from the lusty pages of Gloria Squitiro's Diary.
He replaced Cindy Circo, replaced Ed Ford and then even replaced Russ Johnson too . . . All of whom disagreed with him at some point.
To me, what was important about this part of the debate last night was . . .
WHEN MARK FUNKHOUSER THREW THIS TEMPER TANTRUM IN FRONT OF THE CROWD EVERYONE ALMOST VISIBLY WITHDREW FROM THE ANGRY MAYOR FUNKHOUSER!!!
However, A KICK-ASS TKC TIPSTER, made an even better and EXCLUSIVE point . . . Here's the perspective from the crowd that's important to share:
"What I wonder is: Why is The Mayor running on Deb's platform? He is taking credit for things that she has accomplished. He didn't even turn in a budget and he's taking credit for her work on Finance and Audit. Every time he brags about the City's finances, he's just talking about something that Deb has done or worked on."
It was an interesting point regarding the outgoing Mayor and his rhetorical FAIL.
In overland Park, the Mayor reappoints all the Chairs every year
ReplyDeleteDeb Hermann already wanted to run for mayor in 2008 when she leaked out the legal settlement number to you, Tony
ReplyDeleteDeb Hermann's budget decision cost KC another $6 million
ReplyDelete"On the judge decision, Hermann may have voted against sending the panel but if she wants to be a leader she would have convinced her colleagues to vote with her. Is this the same weak leadership she’s offering as a mayor than kc should pass. On the latest discrimination judgement, this was a result of a highly ineffective cost cutting budget process the was largely led by Hermann. A process that doesn’t strategically address the budget issue and operational issues at city hall. Instead of continuing to put forward simplistic “across the board” budget cuts that Herman and the rest of the council have supported, which invite situations where good people are forced to be let go, they should have been looking to strategically cut wasteful and unnecessary spending and find operational efficiencies. But that approach requires some one with real work experience and more than a high school degree to understand - which as the self proclaimed city budget expert Hermann obviously does not have. "
Which settlement was that, the one where The Mayor's wife cost Kansas City half a million dollars?
ReplyDelete"... petty and vindictive ..." We know all about that: Our mother doesn't understand why the son she loves the most is the one who hates her the most.
ReplyDeleteBeing raised as "The Great One" trained him to be a college professor, but not a mayor.
6:42 - are you serious? Or are you just an imbecile? Do you know any leader who gets a unanimous vote every time? Didn't think so. Her opposition is so clearly desperate that they will do or say anything and it's become ridiculous. Would you have rather she followed "the leader" who at the time did in fact cost the city almost $3 million?
ReplyDeleteBut,Byron you are still a cocksucker, right? Didn't you get caught with a dick in your mouth? Just saying, girlboy
ReplyDelete6:42 You are mistaken. (I'm giving you the benefit of a doubt by not calling you a liar.) Part of what Hermann has done for the budget process is to ensure that there are public hearings in every district, some in the morning, some afternoons, some evenings and even weekends to get public input. She absolutely did NOT do 'across the board' cuts. She has done her best to prioritize and fund those things that are truly functions of city hall. Just one of the many reasons I support her.
ReplyDeleteOh please. Such drama. Do you think maybe he just screwed up the years? Making a big deal about something ten years ago... was he talking off the top of his head? Just mixed it up? Was he called on it at the time... or did soem reporter go play GOTCHA?
ReplyDeleteAnd you Byron. Tsk. Tsk. Dirty Laundry. You need to see somebody about this. I didn't like what you wrote. It was unnecessary and private.
Let him win or lose on his merits for running the city, not personal family life. Horrible, dude. Just horrible.
And Tony. If you're going to say the mayor lost his temper, do him the courtesy of relaying precisely what set him off? Did someone say something that wasn't true or make strong accusations about him or mix up facts right before he lost his temper?
People who get pissed are usually set off. What did it? That's a very very critical part of such a story, don't ya think.
Sorry, but on the surface, this post and the comments below sounded like a railroading. Sounded like a lynching.
Again if he's a lousy mayor, tricky and all that, well lay it out fairly without omitting key elements if you expect people to make up their own minds as to the facts or his reaction to them.
He's caught a great deal of petty shit over the last few months. Some of it his doing, probably a fair amount of it NOT SO.
That's why politicians and awesome tipsters whispering to destroy them are pretty slimy.
Sounds to me like y'all need to go take a hot shower and use lots of soap because it sure sounds to THIS reader that the air was pretty thick with the slime and it got all over yas.
Oh, I just love the little bitch-slapping going on here. Nothing I like better than watching little girls play with each other.
ReplyDeleteWhen does the fisting start?

ReplyDeleteI believe my insights into his personality are relevant. Others agree with me. I wrote Tony once & asked him for permission to comment on his blog. He said that I didn't need his permission, but that it was nice that I asked. He said that no one had ever done that before. (I also told him what my motivations were.)

I'm not gay. If I were gay, I'd like to think that I would accept it & not become homophobic. Thanks to Mark, I've had to think about this a lot more than a person should have to.
Want to end all the drama folks?
ReplyDeleteJut vote all these fools out of office.
Stop the High school antics.
They are costing KCMO residents dearly.
Sounded like a lynching.
ReplyDeleteGloria, you really need to stop trying to work in politics.
And how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder the voter turnout in KCMO is so low. The campagins are mostly by insiders for insiders and this is a great example. Most of these candidates don't know enough to answer questions intelligently, most of the questions are superficial and asked by people who can be told about anything and still believe it, and most of the people currently at 12th and Oak really don't know or care because their re-elections don't depend on the public having any confidence in their abilities or their records.
Thie election has a chance to be different, but it's entirely up to the voters.
GLORIA would like to be able to attack others without any consequences. She cannot take it when it comes back to them. You dish it out, you will be getting it back and without mercy. Welcome to the Real World BITCH.
