KANSAS CITY SNOW BURIES MAYOR FUNKY'S RE-ELECTION CHANCES UNDER AVALANCHE OF FAIL!!!

Get it straight . . . The neighborhood streets suck and there's only more snow on the way. Maybe the cold weather election schedule devised during the Pendergast era has finally backfired given that this FAIL is falling so close to the upcoming vote and will certainly influence more folks to be skeptical about Funky Mayoral promises. Sure, sometimes the snow seems nice and neat to look at like the latest video from Stephen Locke. Still, make no mistake . . .

MAYOR FUNKY NEEDS TO BE HELD POLITICALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR CRAPPY SNOW REMOVAL ON KANSAS CITY NEIGHBORHOOD AND RESIDENTIAL STREETS!!!

When it comes to so-called "progress" the only thing I've noticed is that Mayor Funky is using more vague language to obfuscate his FAIL to adequately deal with the reality of winter in Kansas City.

Check these links, some of them note the resident dissatisfaction in KCMO. Others simply lament the weather, even from the suburbs.

Comments

  1. The streets are not perfect. I give the Mayor a grade of B. If Wayne Cauthen was still their it would have been worse.

  2. Nobody in KCMO government ever pays anyprice, eithr politically or professionally, for anything that goes on and they won't this time either.
Murders, water leaks, crappy streets, failing development projects, money that disappears into the air...nothing. Because the voters and residents are so used to being taken advantage of, ignored, and tricked, they've quit caring a long time ago. That's why the voter turnout is so low.
And the management of the city, both elected and appointed, just keep watching all this from the sidelines and coast in their six-figure jobs to retirement.
There are some great people who work for the city, but the high-quality work they do is entirely self-motivated and they don't get treated any differently than the duds all around them.
An election could change all that, but I haven't heard much from the candidates so far that should give any of us much hope.

  3. If Wayne Cauthen was the cause of poor snow removal, then Troy Schulte should be given the credit if snow removal has improved.

  4. The only thing Funky had to do with it was to hold press conferences (at taxpayers' expense) and take credit for the work of others ( a la Jan and the combined seweer matter, Deb and teh budget, etc.)

  5. The city did a pretty good job this time, but it's an election year. I think all of Funky's opponents should get the tape of his saying, after the storm of December 2009, "We're not going to plow the side streets." He was so arrogant, and I'd just paid my property taxes.

  6. YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!! The snow plow just made it's first pass right now!!!!! I live on a semi busy residential street. THEY FINALLY GOT HERE!

Hey! squitiro, the streets are not perfect. Stop posting.

  7. The snow removal was fine. Crews were even out salting before the storm hit. People have become total babies.

  8. On one side street in my neighborhood they plowed curb to curb for two blocks.

When they got to Troost, the snow plows turned off and discontinued their east ward course. And by the way, no one can park on one side of the street due to the depth of the snow. So it's not because of parked cars that caused them to turn.

  9. When Deb ever does more than accept the budget Schulte wrote and then call it her own I will give her credit. As for Jan and combined sewers, she seemed to do a good job of holding meetings and raising our water/sewer bill but haven't seen much else. I guess the spending of my doubled bill will come later.

    ON THE BUDGET
    FUNKHOUSER THEN:
"And while all of my colleagues on the council deserve credit and thanks, there is one councilmember whose leadership was instrumental in all three of these achievements. Deb Hermann. – From the bottom of my heart – I want to thank Deb not only for the budget, but for helping to make this rookie’s first year in office a productive one."
Mayor Mark Funkhouser, April 24, 2008

    FUNKHOUSER NOW:
"After his election win in 2007, he immediately stared working on taking care of the money.

"Within weeks of his election, Mayor Funkhouser began to change the city’s approach to its finances."

    COMBINED SEWERS
    Jan Marcason, Task Force Chair,
    City of Kansas City, Missouri
Water Services Utility Funding Task Force

Councilwoman Jan Marcason testified yesterday before the House of Representatives, advocating for Kansas City’s Combined Sewer Overflow Control Program.

Marcason went on to call on the federal government to reauthorize and fully fund the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund program. The City recently came to an agreement with the EPA for a 25 year, $2.5 billion overflow control program. Officials are concerned about the large price tag to implement the program and are looking for help from both the state and federal government.

    FUNKHOUSER NOW:
"For instance, I doubt that the average citizen knows about the successes of (the Funkhouser) administration: That we had the courage to approve a long-term solution to our combined sewer problems."
Mayor Mark Funkhouser, June 17, 2010

So stick it up your ass 10:43. I'm sure Funky and Glo would be happy to help you with that, too.

  11. Hate to get into your little lovers quarrel but...That first budget that Deb promoted was writen by Funkhouser and carried to the council by Hermann and Marcason. That's a fact. Gotta give him credit for giving credit away at that point.

  12. KCMSD is pathetic. These little 'scholars' need all the days in school they can get. Get them back in school instead of running the streets. Lazy ass Admins and teachers wanting another paid day off.

  13. For 2:39pm anon
You'd be better off directing your comments and suggestions at THE PARENTS of kids running around in the streets. Why not try some personal responsiblity instead of thinking that the taxpayers, cops, teachers, and everybody else is responsible for giving things to you and yours.
So get off your dead butt and look out for your own family. Opportunity is knocking!

  15. "neighborhood streets suck?" What have you been smoking?

  16. Oh please . .. the first budget was not written by Funk. That was the budget that he couldn't even get a second on. He was made because he tried to do it himself without including the council, and they (correctly) decided if he didn't want to participate in the process they'd go on without him. Then, when he came in as the last minute with a budget, the council decided to stick with what they had worked hard on without him. So -- he sat there, with nobody seconding his budget.

That was his first HUGE overestimation of his importance.
