It's a stupid fact of life that high school sports stars are scouted by big money interests if they show any proficiency . . . However, that process is usually done in private and at least attempts to preserve some sense of normalcy for youngster athletes. CBS recently wrote a hyperbolic review of a local athlete that was followed up by all the TV stations last night . . . Thing is, most serious sports newsies try and avoid this stuff because it's also a fact of life that more often than not (almost always) great high school athletes go on to do nothing at all in the pro-sports world. Still, making a public figure out of a student is always a stupid idea and even worse to encourage the sports mediocrity that's so often celebrated in this town despite any evidence of real talent.
