UPDATED: . . .
This fact discovered by KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS should shed a bit of light on Funkhouser's empty rhetoric regarding luring business to Kansas City and helping foster a better environment for local biz.
Here's the sitch:
Mayor Mark Funkhouser, is the Founder, President and Chairman of the Board of the International Center for Performance Auditing a private, not-for-profit corporation. Attorney and former City Councilman George Blackwood, the father of the Mayor’s Chief of Staff Kendrick Blackwood, is a co-founder and Board member of the ICPA.
Business registration information on file with the Missouri Secretary of State lists the Principal Place of Business or Corporate Headquarters as the home of Mayor Mark Funkhouser.
And according to the ICPA website, the mailing address of the ICPA is the same address.
City regulations require, "All persons (sole proprietors, partnerships, and corporations) who conduct business in Kansas City, Mo., must obtain a business license for that activity."
This is important:
The International Center for Performance Auditing does not have a business license to operate a business in KCMO.
A KICKASS TKC TIPSTER says, "More flaunting of the rules by the person most responsible for upholding them."
Obviously, this is more Funkhouser incompetence on display and should speak to the fact that he doesn't really have an interest in Kansas City small biz because he doesn't know how to keep his own affairs in order . . . Sadly, Kansas City is paying the price for this fact.
Update: The Star Says The Mayor Doesn't Need A Business License . . . Meanwhile, most companies of this type have them. Oh well.
Note: Check the exemption for yourself IT JUST CHANGED IN OCTOBER UNDER THE CURRENT MAYOR AND COUNCIL!!! Meanwhile the Mayor was doing business this way for quite awhile . . . Decide for yourself.
I would bet he isn't the only one in City Hall getting away with bending or breaking the rules.
ReplyDeleteTony, if you only spent more time on actually serious issues instead of this trivia, you might actually contribute to the betterment of the city instead of getting all tangled up in the personailitiee, egos, and other crap with the KCMO swells.
ReplyDeleteWhile you're writing about a nickel/dime business license, there are millions of dollars walking out the doors at 12th and Oak.
That's why the usual suspects are apopleptic about the e-tax!
I'm no Funky fan, but I agree with 12:33 and 12:41. The city's rules and regulations on home businesses are obscure at best. Funky, et al did at least file with the state.
ReplyDeleteHe'll just say I must have forgot or overlooked it somehow like all politicians and officials do. He'll get the license, then back to business as unusual.
ReplyDeleteThe city doesn't require non-profits to have a business license. You need to write a correction.
ReplyDeleteThey do have to conform to zoning laws. I wonder what their insurance company would think? After the Pierce pay out from the co-mayors, this household just doesn't have a lot of cash to spend on liability. Doubt if they cover the minimal insurance needed to conduct city business in their hovel. Something else Galen is letting slide.
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't have a Dumbass license and he doesn't have a Pussy-Whipped license, but no one seems to be trying to enforce either one of those.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has a small business that he runs out of our KCMO home, and you'd better believe he has an occupational license.
ReplyDeleteHe knows he needs one, even tho he didn't work as the city's auditor for 18 years.
Repeating: The city doesn't require nonprofits to have a business license.
ReplyDeleteHey, idiot, his business isn't a non-profit.
ReplyDeleteIs he registered to do bizness in MO? He has to be registered with the Secretary of State.
ReplyDeleteHe's registered with the state as a nonprofit.
ReplyDeleteKCMO business kicemsing is a jake and another reason why entreprenuers eventually move out. What other city in area requires a professional service license for self employed people workinh out of the house. Mayor is dumb but KCMO business liceses are dumber.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that seems to be true here is that a business license for working out of your house is pretty unfriendly. And should be immediately repealed. And the staff required to maintain this... give them snow shovels!
ReplyDeleteBonus. Check this... a story to piss you off!

It's strange how much I agree with Radio man recently.
ReplyDeleteWhat other Countries does he operate a business? This is strange. Does he have another office in someone else house (Germany, France, England) whatever? This appears to be a way to deceive people. International indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe Co-mayors have promoted a biz in KC. When they bring people to town they book the OP convention center for conferences and get special rates for near-by OP hotel accomidations. Great job Co-mayor.
ReplyDeleteI wish a mayor or council candidate would answer this. Why is it for the past several fiscal years on May 1st the city has laid off hundreds of city employees with 10, 15, even 20 years of experience, yet come September through March they hire hundreds of new people from the outside? They should not hire one person from the outside as long as they continue with layoffs.
ReplyDeleteWorst mayoral administration in the history of kc.
ReplyDeleteTrue Dat.
ReplyDeleteThey need to start laying off Police and Fire, mot just City workers.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know why tony is against funk is it because his mom doesnt like funk or what. and beside how many more of city hall employees that work on the side that are suppose to have a contractors license but dont . so tony if you go after the mayor go after the others also
