This afternoon I stopped by the new Midtown Mike Burke campaign office.
A good crowd and a great location . . .
Interesting note: Everyone noted that the Mike Burke campaign COMPLETELY CLEANED UP the space after Cleaver and Robin Carnahan crew left it kind of messy.
More importantly, a brief chat with political consultant and KCPT RUCKUS member Mary O'Halloran revealed a lot of about why she's excited about the Burke campaign.
"I see Mike as somebody with the charisma and statesmanship of Richard Berkley, but even more willing to get involved and take a hands-on approach," she said. "The economy and jobs are going to play an even bigger role in the political climate of Kansas City and more than any other Candidate Mike is prepared to deal with this new climate."
O'Halloran also noted access to stimulus money and connections to Washington D.C. officials as two of Burke's strengths.

My favorite part of the afternoon was a brief opportunity to listen to Mark Lowery's awesome music . . . We'll have more on Lowery later but I don't mind noting that he's one of the most talented musicians working in Kansas City right now.

A quick chance to talk shop with Council Dude Ed Ford and Candidate Jim Glover was interesting as well. Ford seems busy calculating his next move against challenger Allen Dillingham and (more importantly) Dillingham's Daddy's Money . . . Meanwhile, Glover struck me as EXTREMELY THOUGHTFUL regarding the future of Kansas City politics and looks to run on a JOBS PLATFORM.
A good crowd circulated at the event . . . Scott Wagner made the scene and seems extremely poised to represent all of Kansas City and not just the Northland.
Kansas City newsie DeAnn Smith was also in the crowd but didn't let me grab a photo because she's pretending that she doesn't want to get into the political consulting biz.
Credit to the Burke campaign for maintaining one of the best locations that's central to all of Kansas City.
More later . . .
Burke has the charisma of a potted plant and anybody knows there's no more stimulus money coming from DC. How Glover thinks KCMO is going to create jobs is a complete mystery and is just another empty campaign slogan. Just the same old tired people saying the same old crap that has gotten the city in the mess that it's in.
ReplyDeleteAnd O'Halloran's attempts to be relevant to much of anything get more pathetic by the year. Deanne Smith as a political consultant? Just what we need more of. Maybe she can get in in time to cash in on the big e-tax scam!
So, these guys are our new saviors?
ReplyDeleteI am confused as to HOW Ford and Glover are running a campaign about "fixing" city politics...AREN'T THEY THE ESTABLISHMENT!? They ARE the problem. Glover especially. He had his chance...THREE TIMES! Give it up.
ReplyDeleteDear Lord....Glover's face looks like a monkey's butt with that beard.
ReplyDeleteHey I'm a potted plant and I don't take kindly to being compared to Mike Burke. And since Glover has a negative amount of personality and Ed Ford has mean multiple personalities, I think potted plants win. And what is up with that yellow sweater? Burke looks like what he is...a real LEMON!
ReplyDeletePoliticians hanging around together really accomplishes a lot!
ReplyDeleteNo more retreads. They are only increasing on there bs pensions. Taxpayers continue to contribute to these redicules retirement plans. It takes the average private sector employee 5 yrs to even be vetted and qualified for a pension. This needs to be fixed. These council people are considered part time positions. Step up.
ReplyDeleteDid Burke's wife show up? I'm thinking she's been a little too invisible. Somethings up with that.
ReplyDeleteGlover, please do us all a favor and go home. You have a family to take care of. Five children to be exact. As a widower that must be rough enough.
ReplyDeleteMrs. Burke is not the candidate. Her name is not gloria squitiro.
ReplyDeleteNeither are Deb's husband, Rowland's wife, Klein's girlfriend nor James' wife called gloria squitiro. They have not bullied their way onto the political stage. The spouses of these candidates do not deserve to be tarred with the same brush as the slack jawed squitiro.
I heard Burke's wife is unsupportive of his candidacy.that is completely different and important to know.
ReplyDeleteGlover go home!
ReplyDelete10:48, you are correct.
ReplyDeleteI like that Mike decided to throw an ugly sweater themed party! That's being creative!!
ReplyDelete7:39 PM:
ReplyDeleteYou need to retract your crack about Glover's face looking like a monkey's butt with that beard.
As a monkey's butt, I am deeply offended.
Round up the usual suspects,
ReplyDeleteWhat could possible go wrong?
Check out Dave Helling's story on Port Authority Conflict of Interest and Sham Minority Contractor scams. Burke is all over this mess, but won't comment. He should withdraw from the race today!
ReplyDeletethe furure for kc lookes bleak with the retreads.
ReplyDeleteDeAnn Smith is looking for a job
ReplyDeleteBurke is interested in feathering his own nest. He is in large part to blame for the Port Authority mess. One of the most dishonest and disingenuous people around.
ReplyDeleteEd Ford, no clue about government.
ReplyDeleteAnyone else see the irony of a development lawyer using a location that has a TIF? Property owner Larry Sells rents to political campaigns for cheap to keep them indebted and his failing payments TIF out of the limelight.
ReplyDeleteAt one time I thought Burke was the best candidate. I just read the KC Star. He didn't see a conflict? He doesn't want to comment? How much did he make on this deal? Is he still getting money from the Port Authority? He also doesn't see a conflict in renting campaign space in a publicly subsidized project? Are we helping pay his rent? This is embarrassing and I am tired of being embarrassed by public officials. Too many questions for me -- I am moving on, Burke.
ReplyDeleteWagner, Ford, and Glover -- all losers at the Burke event!
ReplyDeleteDeb Hermann has officially become the front runner.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exciting group of politicos. Id rather watch paint dry.
ReplyDeleteGlovers priorities are all screwed up. They should be with the kids. He wont completly have the time for the city or his kids. What an ego. Thats sad.
ReplyDeleteHey, 1:51,
ReplyDeleteNo need to worry, after saying the kids "came first" for so long, when Glover decided his priority was THE MAYOR'S OFFICE (assuming he wins this race).
So -- believe it or not -- he actually got rid of the kids. Mind you he'll have a "story" about its really "best" for the kids.
But to be clear, he dumped the kids so they wouldn't be able hold him back.
I kid you not.
Funky the Fuck up is trying to find something to grab on to. Yo Funky you are a Fuck up. Stop trying to get back in on the back of others. Your Goose is cooked, now feed your BITCH you low life ass.
ReplyDelete10:48, wise move. Burke did know about the Sessions deal and approved it. Session's company wasn't even MBE approved; Cauthen made a call and demanded that Human Relations approve the company so that Mr. Bill could get the Port Authority contract.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, Burke made lots of money from the PA... more than $4 million over several years. It was his bread and butter. Now his law firm is imploding and Burke doesn't care.
I'm moving on, too. After reading about the Port Authority for the past month, and now Helling's story, I'm done with Burke.
Oh, Gloria Squid please you have never been with Burke. BITCH
ReplyDelete4:28, is that you Jason? or is it Brendan? Your abusive behavior toward women is legendary.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Mike's got one supporter. Too bad Mary O' lives in Prairie Village.
ReplyDeleteGlover is embarrassing himself. Really Sad.
ReplyDeleteGlover sounds like a real douch. He will probably get elected.
ReplyDeleteWas Ed Ford wearing sweatpants at the event?
ReplyDeleteDouch lovers UNITE. Glover is our man!
ReplyDelete6:02...fyi...all of Burke's supporters live in Prairie Village, that's where all the MBE fronts live!!!
ReplyDeleteIs Glover running? I guess it is like when he ran for Mayor.
ReplyDeleteHelling + Hermann = Burke / Session / Runnion Port Authority story. Helling has been tight w/ Hermann for years. Helling should check on Runnion's financial connection to WTS in other cities or contracts. Follow the money ...!!!!
ReplyDeleteI DEFINATELY need to get my computer worked on. The one woman looks like she has pink hair!
ReplyDelete9:17am you're an idiot.
