TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MAYOR FUNKY SMACKED DOWN ON PANICKED PORT AUTHORITY APPOINTMENTS AND CITY HALL FUNDED CAMPAIGN MAILERS!!!
Well, it was never more obvious that Mayor Funky is a cheap political opportunist today.
Thankfully, the City Council was able to stop his efforts to make The Port Authority part of his reelection campaign. While I think the Port Authority story is interesting, it's clear that Mayor Funky wasn't able to inspire the level of panic he desired.
The City Council passed a resolution to conduct an "audit of certain transactions related to the redevelopment of the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base by the Port Authority of Kansas City, Missouri.".
Which sounds about right . . .
Meanwhile, Mayor Funky's attempt to RAM THROUGH his appointments failed miserably.
Most people seem to think Craig Porter and John Burnett would be fine appointments . . . However . . .
MAYOR FUNKY'S CYNICAL PLOY TO PUSH HIS OWN AGENDA IN A PANIC AND BECAUSE OF A STAR STORY WAS RIGHTFULLY SENT BACK TO COMMITTEE!!!
It was a good move and once again shows a powerless and desperate Mayor in action.

THE COUNCIL LIMITED MAYOR FUNKY'S ABILITY TO RUN TACIT CAMPAIGN MAILERS AT THE EXPENSE OF CITY HALL BEFORE THE ELECTION!!!
Again, another good move that protects the taxpayers from Mayor Funky and his Co-Mayor wife.
There's always talk that the outgoing Mayor is picking up steam or turning around his image but today we STILL SEE A POWERLESS POLITICO AND A MAYOR WHO NEVER MANAGED TO BUILD A CONSENSUS!!!
It is still good PR for the Mayor. Funk against the insiders. The ultimate insider on this smelly deal, Port Authority attorney Mike Burke. And second place Deb Hermann who voted to separate the Port Authority from the EDC after the EDC blew the whistle on the crooked dealings at the Port Authority over the grading contract the Star reported. Then Hermann pushed through the re-appointment of Trey Runnion who appears to be at the center of this scandal. I really dislike this Mayor but he is blessed with his opponents.
ReplyDeleteHow come we applaud the Council when they smack down Funk? They're just as corrupt, if not more so. The council acts like children who can't play together in a sand box, but when the mayor tries to calm the kids, he gets smacked down and we applaud that action?? Just doesn't make much sense to me. They ALL need to go. Throw all 13 babies out with the bathwater, Glorioso and the other insiders too!

The Council continues to show they are not grown up enough to act like professionals and do what is best for us. They would do harm to the city in order to keep the Mayor from passing anything or fixing anything for fear it might make him look good for his election. I have watched this circus for four years and finally came to the conclusion that the vast majority of the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the 12 Council Members who just can't get along. Sure, Funkhousers wife has screwed up royal a few times but what the hell does any of that have to do with the Council Members? They should have been smart enough and professional enough to let him hang himself if the voters even care about his wifes letters and crude remarks. But no, they have to play silly games at our expense like settling a lawsuit that Funkhouser claimed he could win and then telling people, like me personally, that they did so because they didn't want him to clear his name. They have lost touch with reality and feel that the end justifies the means. I have news for you, it doesn't and I will not vote to return any one of you.
ReplyDeleteSome may have settled for that reason. Others probably did not believe he could win, and that the City would be on the hook for a much larger sum.
ReplyDeleteIf the City's Attorneys did not think the City could win, then why should the Council continue fighting? Wouldn't it be better to settle rather than risk a larger judgment, particularly if there is a significant chance of that larger judgment happening?
The real shame is that the City didn't settle sooner because some on the Council wanted to continue the Mayor's embarrassment.
No, wait, the real shame was the Mayor (really Gloria) poisoning the well such that it was harder to settle.
No, wait, the real shame was HAVING GLORIA IN A POSITION OF IMPORTANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!
