LOCAL SOCCER STAYS LOSING: REMEMBER MAYOR FUNKY WAS "CONFIDENT" KANSAS CITY WOULD HOST A WORLD CUP GAME!!!

Here's just a bit of followup on one of Mayor Funky's many broken promises.
I had to go to a web cache to find the story from only last year from WDAF which reported Mayor Funky sticking his neck out for something silly yet again:
WDAF: Mayor Funkhouser 'Confident' That Kansas City Will Host World Cup Game
"Kansas City could be in the international spotlight if World Cup soccer comes to town in 2018. Mayor Mark Funkhouser signed a Host City Agreement to bring the games to Arrowhead."
Here's the money line . . .
"The mayor said Kansas City is just beginning to reach its soccer potential but it has always been a soccer town.
"Kansas City, the American city, we're right in the center of the nation. We're, I think, absolutely positioned for this. There's going to be 18 cities selected for this, and I'm confident we'll be one of those 18," Mayor Funkhouser said."
Followup:
US Loses 2022 World Cup Bid. KC was Hoping to be a Cup Site
A year later Mayor Funky's understanding, logic and predictions turn out to be COMPLETELY wrong . . . Again.
Just a reminder that holding Mayor Funky to his word on ANYTHING usually ends in disappointment . . . Which should be increasingly evident as the election moves closer.
What do you want him to say...
ReplyDelete"I seriously doubt Kansas City has a chance in hell of hosting the World Cup"?
Pick your batlles T.
Really? Slow news week?
ReplyDeleteYou moron, YOU are completely wrong. Many, many U.S. cities (at one point upward of 70) were competing to be part of the official US bid. Kansas City WAS selected to be one of those 18, just as Funk hoped.
ReplyDeleteThe choice between which COUNTRY's bid to accept, however, is an entirely different matter and completely beyond Funk's control and having nothing to do with his prediction. As submitted to FIFA, KC was in fact 1 of the 18 US cities in the USA bid.
You are such a moron.
Confidence is when you know. Arrogance is a better word.
ReplyDeleteHe wasn't wrong. He never said the US was absolutely getting the World Cup, just that he was confident in KC's chances of getting a game it it did. I'm no fan of Funk's, but this is a non-story no matter how you spin it. Slow news week indeed.
ReplyDeletecareful reaching so far. You could pull something
ReplyDeleteI do not care for funk or soccer but blaming and celebrating the result of not being selected for such an event seems kind of dumb.
ReplyDeleteWe he was also confident he would be re-elected to---HA-HA-HA
ReplyDeleteOkay. last time I checked, mayoral elections (which would effect Frankenmayor's re-election) have not happened yet. So, not sure what the last comment is all about...
ReplyDeleteIf you take Kansas City getting a World Cup game as being guaranteed by the mayor, you are an idiot. No where has he said that we would get a World Cup game. He said he felt confident in KC being one of the 18 cities nominated, WHICH IT WAS... D'uh! Comprehension is part of reading, after all.
Soccer??? ZZZZZZZZZZ Call me when we come up short on the NCAA Tourny or a college bowl game.
ReplyDeleteAlready noted, but Kansas City was picked as one of the 18 United States Cities submitted in the bid.
ReplyDeleteThat's all Funkhouser said. He was right.
I know your a blogger, but could you at least do a Google search before you attempt to excoriate someone?
keep qualifying your lies Gloria.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to know that this blog is not exempt from idiot comment-posters.
