TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! MAYORAL CANDIDATE HENRY KLEIN PROPOSES A NEW KANSAS CITY E-TAX STRATEGY!!!

It looks like the E-tax will continue to dominate discussion in Kansas City's Mayoral Race.

Klein rightly says, "This issue is likely to be what the Light Rail issue was to the mayoral election 4 years ago."

Check latest presser on the topic from Henry Klein addresses the subject and offers a new strategy for keeping the tax and making is just a bit more equitable:

Klein Campaign Announces Exclusion of Those Under Poverty Line for Earnings Tax Support

Kansas City, November 29, 2010, Today the Klein campaign makes an important exception to support for the earnings tax. “We will support the renewal of the earnings tax with one critical condition: we must carve out an exemption for anyone or any family that falls at or below the poverty line,” said Henry Klein, candidate for Mayor in Kansas City.

The amount of revenue lost is likely to be small and it’s highly probably these dollars will find their way immediately back into the local economy in the form of food and necessity expenditures. The campaign will work with city hall to determine the exact amount of revenue affected but the candidate made it clear that regardless of the amount lost, “we must no longer attempt to balance our city budget on the backs of the poor. It’s unacceptable and should have not been allowed to continue for this long.”

  1. Good idea, but I'm not voting for him.

  2. This is great but what is the point of this statement considering the language won't reflect this option?

  3. @ 5:24, You're right we shouldn't vote based on ideas. Let's just keep voting based on what type of dog a candidate has.

  4. Klein is an idiot. He has done nothing for the city except a little Habitat for Humanity. He is supremely under qualified to be mayor.

  5. Henry Klein just presented the first idea introduced to a Kansas City mayoral campaign in 20 years - or more.

The other so-called candidates are pathetic next to this one uncomplicated suggestion.

  6. It is refreshing to see some actual ideas and proposals beginning to appear in the campaign.
Not to make this all more complicated, but what about simply having a graduated tax like the income tax, and likewise exempt lower income folks?
If we're going to try to fix this, it might as well be realistic and more for the long term.

  7. I like what he has to say, it sounds good at first, but what about the family that lives in Overland Park, hubby makes great bank on the other side of state line, mom is a part-time teachers' aid. Does she get exempted? Also, I haven't heard ANYONE say their problem with the E-tax is that it is regressive. It is, but I don't think the people trying to kill it care about that. In fact, Rex is a proponent of all tax being sales tax . . . you wanna talk about hurting the poor?!

  8. Klein is way creepy. He has no answers to questions. He has a way of doing lots of talking while saying nothing.

  9. Sounds like we'll have to rename this site Tax-Cut Tony's. See, jackhole? Having a revenue-free Web site may pay off for you after all.

  10. With the Funk in office lets go ahead and throw out who is qualified to be mayor. Fresh ideas and someone getting the opportunity to put their ideas in motion isn't going to hurt this city. All he has done for KC is a little Habitat for Humanity get real. A younger, successful, motivated man wanting a position that no matter how good of a job you do people will not be happy. Knowing this and still wanting the challenge speaks volumes about a person. Get some facts before you result to name calling and at the very least listen to the ideas, you might just like them.

  11. Henry, (1)A great number of the people who are under the poverty line don't work. (2) who will track compliance. Would you put yet another layer of responsibility on small business? (3) It's better to not talk and it won't be factually presented that you are stupid! Hey, maybe you can save KC schools again!!

  12. Better yet just have NO E-tax.
    The E-tax is Toast.

  13. He is such a dunce. And glib. I've heard him and he never utters a thoughtful sentence.

  14. If we don't have the E-tax, we won't have these (third) world-class amenities.

  15. No one cares what Henry Klein thinks or says.

The guy's a legend in his own mind.

And by the way, he's been "engaged" to the same woman for at least 5 years!

He's gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But high time he quits playing this game with the poor woman.

  16. I'm glad he's gay. I'm happy, too.

  17. Time for this room's gay guys to quit trying to farsically out other guys. No one's business if they are, or are just tryin somethin out. I grow so tired of this, in this room.

Probably one guy in here, feeling guilty for his feelings and trying to make everyone else as confused as he is.

Just let it go. These guys can either be honest in public service and serve REGULAR people, or they'll be crooks and service themselves and their rich friends. I don't much care who they bed down with.

I'm more interested in them serving ordinary folks living up and down most streets, no matter who they share bedrooms with. Mostly I don't like guys helping business types get richer at everyone else's expense.

Does that make sense, or do gay guys only care about their sexuality at any financial cost?

  18. POOR LITTLE RICH BOY gonna tell everybody how to take care of us po folks!
He just doesn't get it --just like last time when he was going to give all of KC "wireless"access. We can't pay for our prescriptions. We can't pay the gas bill in the winter. We go to sleep in raincoats. You gonna exempt us who can't get a job because of lack of merchantable skills or over the age of getting a new job --TOO OLD. You gonna exempt us from the 1% we don't make. Klein you is a side mouth Cracker.
