TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! GAME CHANGER: KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATE MIKE BURKE SOON TO ANNOUNCE SUPPORT FROM COALITION OF LOCAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN MINISTERS!!!

The very best of TKC TIPSTERS have given us a preview into an upcoming political move that will change the landscape of Kansas City's Mayoral Race.
The details are still being worked out but in principal there is an agreement and assurances made just yesterday afternoon.
Here's the upshot:
LOOK FOR SOME OF THE MOST PROMINENT AFRICAN-AMERICAN MINISTERS IN KANSAS CITY TO OFFER THEIR SUPPORT FOR KANSAS CITY MAYORAL CANDIDATE MIKE BURKE THANKS TO HIS OUTREACH EFFORTS!!!
Historically, the struggle to attain African-American voting rights, political organization and efforts for social justice have involved places of worship and religious leaders in The Black Community. The bloc of votes from some of the biggest African-American congregations in Kansas City represent a powerful force in local politics that could push a candidate into the primary without much assistance. Add this move to Burke's connections to some of the most elite interests in Kansas City and his momentum in the race starts to look more formidable.

Like it or not, when Mike Burke makes this announcement he becomes THE STRONGEST BLACK CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR IN KANSAS CITY!!! And that might give the Sly James team (and all of their cash) a moment of pause.
Folks who doubt the political strength of the Ministers working as a team might have too quickly forgotten the legacy of Former Mayor Cleaver and would do well to remember that Former Councilman Alvin Brooks was nearly put in office by this contingent alone and he didn't have Burke's Northland rep or list of big money connections.
What's interesting to me about this move is that, once it's done, it can't be countered by any other Mayoral Candidate. Also . . . BECAUSE KANSAS CITY CAN'T BE FIXED UNTIL WE FIX THE PROBLEMS IN THE 3RD DISTRICT . . . If there is a copycat effort, I'm all for Mayoral Candidates paying more attention to the formidable African-American vote. Sadly, I know so many won't follow up Burke's outreach attempt to local Black leaders and will only maneuver to discount the obvious influence of this community in local elections.
More details on this game changing move are soon to drop . . . Stay tuned!!!

ReplyDeleteI'll bet Mike hopes that the ministers can be more effective politically than they were when they got our 4% of the vote in the last school board election.
ReplyDeleteTony, your notion of how important people are is based more on what the people themselves say, than on what they actually do. More research and actual reporting instead of out-of-your-butt assertions might help.
Tony can pull Cleaver out of his butt? I'd like to see that.
ReplyDeleteNever mind.
Those ministers love lawyer money and their congragations of black women who hate the fact that Sly married a white woman.
ReplyDeleteIf Black ministers have that much influence then why didn't Michael Brooks beat Cindi Circo. In the 60s 70s and 80s they had influence. Today, not only do people NOT go to church but they can read! They can look out of their windows and see their conditions. The pulpit pimps are not what they use to be. Most imporatantly they congregations don't vote.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it most black churches are run by Pastor "Tom."
ReplyDeleteOr in some cases, The High Exulted Bishop "Tom."
Their congragrations consists of old ladies with ugly daughters that no one would marry and a smattering of closeted gay black momma's boys.
Not a Game Changer Tony.
What is that worth, about six votes?
ReplyDeleteIn this race, at this time the Black Ministers will come in mighty handy.
ReplyDeleteMany of these preachers minister to congregations that reach far outside of Third and Fifth district. Their support of the Burke candidacy is important.
Hmmm . . . so now the African-American community has three choices? I like it. If it keeps up, they may have to choose the best candidate. Maybe they will go for the big development lawyer, I wonder how many of his zillion-dollar projects are in their neighborhoods?
ReplyDeleteDoes Mike Burke send unsolicited bulk e-mail (spam) in support of his campaign?
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't send it to me, but I've never given him my email address. I get Funk's stuff and Hermann's stuff, but they both have an opt out, and I have given them both my email addresses. My brother, on the other hand, spams me constantly.
ReplyDeleteAlvin Brooks supports Mike and we're now seeing what that means. Good for Mike, bad for Tee's proclaimed front runner, Deb. However, Mike still loses cause Jonas Hughes will get most of those votes, regardless of what the preacher says. Congregations will more than likely just interpret it as the preacher's play for some of Mike's money, which is okay with them. When Mike doesn't deliver, preacher support will wane and Hughes will step in. This is already in the script as the drama unfolds.
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is going to make his public announcement that he is a candidate for mayor.
ReplyDeleteHughes is keeping his safe seat as a Representive
ReplyDeleteSly's wife is white? Good for them!
ReplyDeleteThis is great news for Hughes. Burke actually thinks he'll get support from our community.
ReplyDeleteBurke might get support but his concentration on the black community will be a detriment to the North. We are the biggest community in KC and we have been ignored. Burke's black ministers could push him ahead of Rowland but they won't beat Deb and her support from voters who care about financial solvency from everywhere in KC.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I keep hearing from all quarters is this: the next mayor of KC has not yet announced his/her candidacy. The community, especially the business community, is not impressed with the current list of candidates.
ReplyDeleteNot so. Business community is settling in on the current front runner.... and it ain't Deb.
ReplyDeleteWe have months to go. Do not let all of the current positioning get ahead of the real issues. Issue number one.. would someone PLEASE get Funkhouser to leave town!
Deb is concerned about 'financial solvency' 12:23? Then why is she for the pension bail out? Why hasn't she done something about reforming the city pension plan? Business community won't support her because of that. Besides, she doesn't even have a high school diploma.
ReplyDeleteAnon 10:16 am - your brother might be annoying but I doubt he is a spammer.
ReplyDeleteThe standard should be "opt-in" not "opt-out." I.e. candidates should only send bulk e-mail to those who have explicitly (confirmed) opted-in.
ReplyDeleteBye bye Sly. Jim...game over. Deb is done. Go Burke!!!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone really expects Burke to gather support in the African-American community they are from the Northland and high on too many Starbucks lattes
ReplyDeleteAgree with 1:48
ReplyDeleteThe next Mayor of Kansas City has yet to announce. Keep in mind Funk didn't announce til late November last time. This crop as a group are so underwhelming that Funk will be re-eected and that just can't happen.
I've heard from more than one person out south that Alvin Brooks may run to get his old seat back.
Alvin Brooks supports Mike Burke.
ReplyDeleteHis old seat dip shit, learn how to read
ReplyDelete"Terry Riley is going to make his public announcement that he is a candidate for mayor."
ReplyDeleteNow that is funny.
Why is Alvin Brooks even considering another run for political office? Does he really believe that he -- above everyone else -- is the best person to represent the voters? I am so sick of career politicians. If a person cannot find a good job in the private sector, then that says a lot about that person and his/her abilities. Politics should attract the best, brightest and most energetic. Instead, it seems to attract those who can't cut it in the real world.
ReplyDeleteMr. Brooks, I say this with sincerity and respect: You have had a good run, and have managed to accomplish some positive things. But it is time to let others have their chance. KC has a new crop of potential leaders, who are intelligent, full of integrity, full of energy, and ready to tackle KC's problems. This city is facing some very serious challenges; we are at a tipping point. It is time for some fresh thinking, and a new approach to some very old, and long-ignored problems.
Mr. Brooks, you might be able to win a city council or the mayoral seat if you run. But the fact that you might be able to win is not reason enough to run. Ask yourself - Are you the absolutely best person for the job at this particular moment in your life? You cannot possibly answer that question with an unequivocal "yes."
Let Alvin try to run, Mike Brown will destroy his legacy.
ReplyDeleteMike has worked well with the Republicans in Jefferson city to pass legislation to help the homeless while bringing jobs to the 50th district. He got 84% in his last primary, that is an unprecedented landslide and anyone who knows, knows that Brown is the future of Freedom Inc and Craig Bland and Alvin Brooks are the past.
Anon 3:49 is right. Why does KCMO keep getting stuck with the same old names? Other than the fact that being on the city payroll is the best-paying jobs they ever had!
ReplyDeleteAnd in the swirling mess of consultants, personalities, egos, and secret deals to "back" candidates, please tell me that for once there's at least one of these people with some ideas about public policy that might actually do some good for the whole city.
If not, then you'll have another situation where, after the election, the mayor will "What do we do now?"
The city won't survive another four years of that!
So that mushroom cloud? Is that just drug cartel file video from Northern Mexico or are city hall candidates nuking each other in the blogs?
ReplyDeleteRadioman - I wrote the 3:49 post. I am not running for public office (because I have a job), and I am not trying to nuke anybody. But I just don't care for career politicians. If someone thinks they can do some good in office, great! Run for the seat, serve your term, do some good, and then get out. But this endless campaigning and politics-for-the-sake-of-politics is bullsh**. Those of us in the business community are sick of this, which is why people and companies continue to move to Kansas.
ReplyDeleteCome on. We can do better.
More like Mike Burke is going to announce that James Tindall is supporting him which will equal zero votes.
ReplyDeleteBurke does send unsolicited emails and letters. Brooks is supporting Burke because that is the deal that was made four years ago...Burke supported Brooks for mayor during the last election on the condition that Brooks return the favor. The business community is beginning to rally behind Deb and they won't back Burke because he has ripped off the Port Authority, screwed the Northland with his failed Renaissance North development, among other things. He got Ren North guaranteed with PIAC dollars, costing the Northland millions in PIAC dollars, which is still being paid for today. No way we can afford Burke.
ReplyDeleteI just want everyone to know that I am going to be supporting Mike Burke. Mike is a good man and my 103 votes I can deliver will be all he needs to win the Mayors race.
ReplyDeleteAs a side disclaimer, I am informed by my legal Attorney Clinton Adams, that I must disclose that I have been paid under the table to make this statement. But I want you to know that it is in the name of the good Lord Almighty who has blessed me with my seat over the very commission I stole from.
Thank you Jesus! Vote Mike Burke. He is a nice guy and he's paying me for it.
There actually IS no 3:49 post. But I'll tell ya. I agree with everything you said!
ReplyDeleteOH whoops, I missed the 3:49 post. I have no opinion on Alvin Brooks though I do think like with Charlie Wheeler, it's time to pass the baton to someone younger and more energetic.
ReplyDeleteWe need serious leadership in the core city, not more of the same. leadership not seen before. Funk didn't have it, and neither did what's her name before him.
While Funk was an intrenched bureocrat, he obviously isn't a leader type. He's an accountant, for chrissakes! Anti social and introverted by DEFINITION. Hardly leadership. Mrs Mayor wasn't elected and lacks the polish so she could not make up for his nerdy ways.
I'm perplexed by this comment from tony for that Burk guy clearly looks European:
.Like it or not, when Mike Burke makes this announcement he becomes THE STRONGEST BLACK CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR IN KANSAS CITY!!! And that might give the Sly James team (and all of their cash) a moment of pause.
He DOES look pretty good, professional and all that. Not too young, businesslike but in THIS town, there's alot more to leadership.
So maybe I agree with you and maybe I don't.
Its kind of hard for me to get worked up about this post - although a lot of previous commenters don't seem to have had any trouble - since it doesn't really say anything. Who - SPECIFICALLY - are these ministers that are going to endorse Burke? White politicians, and for that matter Black ones too, and the media still haven't seemed to get that all Black ministers are not interchangeable. Some have prestige and influence, some do not. And from what I hear, the ones with prestige are breaking into several different camps (and Burke's ain't one of 'em). And just as an aside, if he wants to be mayor, Mike Burke is going to have learn to smile in pictures without looking creepy. In the picture on this post, his smile looks really, really creepy.
ReplyDeleteBurke doesn't have a prayer, even if most of the black ministers promise to offer some prayers up for him. If the African-American community supports him, and that brings him a victory, well, then they are getting what they deserve. Everyone, regardless of skin-color or geographic location needs to seriously consider what matters to them, and get on board with the candidate who is the best match. I have decided to go with Hermann for now, I don't mind someone going for someone else if they have thought it through and decide she isn't a good match. She *is* educated (certainly has a diploma; I assume that was a joke). More importantly, as a Channel 2 viewer, I see she is 'educated' enough to trust experts.
ReplyDeleteVote for who you want. Just make sure it's who YOU want.
I think Burke can win, and any guys out there who want to have some cocktails and show me you cock please find me on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteThanks
It does not make us Gay. Really. Lot's of guys get drunk and look at each others cocks, or touch them or taste them. We can talk.
How is it that ministers can become so directly involved in a campaign? Hope this doesn't affect the tax status of their congregations.
