Sometimes I hate being right.
However, folks who spoke out against the hostile takeover of MAST by the leadership of The Kansas City Fire Department now seem to be vindicated as the facts of the Administrative Failure slowly work their way into public view.
Just as TKC noted in July, pension issues proved to be a big deal in this hot mess: "Despite its $40 million projected cost, a plan to award full pension benefits to former MAST employees who now work for the city has won initial approval."
Sadly, the so-called savings for the MAST takeover is now nothing more than a myth except given theoretical long term figures that rarely pan out.

Also, in July TKC offered a preview of lowered response times for the new Kansas City Ambulance service . . . Yet again, TKC TIPSTERS were proven correct at the outset of this week:

Now the fun part . . . The blame.
WITH THE LONE EXCEPTION OF ED FORD THE REST OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE MAYOR MUST ANSWER FOR LOWERING THE STANDARD OF HEALTHCARE IN KANSAS CITY!!!
Sadly, this is a local fight the Tea Party and so many others opposed to "medical socialism" completely missed.
Kansas City politicos and Union leaders destroyed an efficient public/private partnership by putting it completely under local government control. The cost of this blunder continues to climb and ultimately will be paid for in human lives now that ambulance service is just another aspect of local life degraded by the screwed up politics of the Mayor and City Council.

What did they expect to happen...the goverment can not run anything. Look at the other departments that are contolled by the city. I am just waiting for a KC citizen to demand a independnet audit of certain department that will be asking for a tax increase in November. For people who do not know that is how Liberty School District got caught. LIberty wanted to pass a bond/tax increase, citizen demand audit, and then bang money missing.

ReplyDeleteMAST was a public/private entity that actually had revenue. Now it is an inefficient sub-division of our Kansas City Fire Department.

As a firefighter with years of service, I am angry that we were told lies by the city and by our union bosses.
MAST was a private non governmental contractor, wasn't it? No matter if it wasn't a profit making corporation, it wasn't part of city government.
ReplyDeleteI too lamented at its takeover by the union controlled KCFD. Union isn't a government organization either.
I figured firemen behind the wheel would just cause more collisions because they'd drive faster, like reckless fire truck drivers.
But it's done. Another mistake by this mayor. Government people can be soooo arrogant!

ReplyDeleteIt appears MAST was funding a defined contribution plan to the extent of 9% annually. If so and the employees have this money plus a retroactive pension service time they are double dipping.
ReplyDeleteThis would be like a 45 year old with $200,000 in a 401k becoming a federal employee and only needing to work 10 years to draw a full pension plus keep the full 401k.
The city is Totally mismanaged.

I have worked for 4 years for MAST and now KCFD. I still do the same thing, the same way. I show up on time, treat people with respect, and work my ass off for people without expecting a thank you. I don't do it for praise; I do it because I love my job.
So you can sit in your basement and make these claims and just expose yourself as a retard who deserves no respect. You sit here and trash us, trash the work we do. Your attention whore behavior is sick. You are like the scum fish that suck the side of an aquarium.
Even for someone like you, I would still bust my ass and do anything in the world it took to help you no matter what if you called 911. Because unlike you, I have ethics, integrity, and a moral compass.
Next time, have some facts to back up all the idiot wind.
Whatever transpired between the city, MAST, the fire department, and the union is neither here nor there. It has no bearing on how we do our jobs. We are the same people in the same city with the same tools. The only thing that has change is the name on our ambulances.
Kansas City is in such a mess.
