Given: Almost nobody in this town is as powerful as Pink dressed up as a Gladiator. But, this week we did our best and here are the strongest names in Kansas City.
Check it:
POLITICOS
1. Beth Gottstein - My home girl and 4th District Council lady embarrassed the Mayor and pretty much demonstrated he is powerless for all of Kansas City to see . . . She also has emerged as a stronger leader than so many have thought.
2. Jason Grill - New polling reported EXCLUSIVELY at TKC suggests that he can work and thrive among Republicans and (like it or not) that's the wave of the future.
3. Mike Talboy - Kansas City's Missouri House Rep was hard at work during the Summer Caucus and is preparing Democrats for even more contentious times ahead.
4. Roy Blunt - Nobody really expects Robin to win. C'mon.
5. Kevin Yoder - Already he's calling out his Democrat opposition for debates and doesn't seem afraid of the Moore Legacy.
NEWSIES
1. Nick Wright - The young sports newsie earned The Kansas City Interview of The Year.
2. DeAnn Smith - Check out her hot tweets. She continues to work the local news scene and shows us all how a former Star newsie should act.
3. Chris Hernandez - His perspective on City Hall politics this week was timely and informative.
4. Eric Wesson - Expect even bigger news from this KC Call reporter. However, his latest story on Former KC Mayor Cleaver is already making waves.
5. Jason Whitlock - Crying, accusations and burned bridges. The big man walked off into the newspaper sunset with what is undeniably the biggest bang in recent, local media history.
KANSAS CITY HAPPY HOUR HANGOUTS
I drink alone but I've still heard pretty good things about these places. And while none of this content is sponsored, I don't mind playing favorites:
1. The Well - Waldo High Class and hottie waitresses. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours after a miserable day at work.
2. The Drop - Hipster hotties and a new deck. Not bad.
3. Tanner's - Classic Kansas City Working Class fare worth a visit.
4. El Patron - Growing Westside Crowd and an upstairs/outdoor hangout. Rather good food for a midweek night out and even a Latino or two in the crowd.
5. The Peanut - Best hot wings in Kansas City and not a bad place to actually have a conversation.
As always, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and it's the strongest guide to local powerful people.
No sir, I don't like it.
ReplyDeleteWell TKC...not a Westport place on your list. You've finally figured it out.
ReplyDeleteAs for Beth. She better do something about that terrible Polsonelli Bldg on the Plaza.
Beth...LOL
ReplyDeleteNick Wright? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:12 pm -- why LOL?
ReplyDeleteAnd all these people, most of whom no one has ever heard of, uses all their "power" to do....what?
ReplyDeleteThey spend all their time being important and don't have any left to actually contribute something to the residents of the city.
Famous for being well-known!
Beth is a zero. She puts Glorioso on the redistricting committee, then denies she did it and blames her colleague Marcason. Her "leadership" is non-existant. The fact that she can embarrass the mayor is not news; anyone can embarrass him because he does so much himself.
ReplyDeleteBeth wouldnt win in the next election if it were only held in her own condo bldg.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Beth should run against Funkhouser for Mayor?
ReplyDeleteThat big building on the Plaza better not happen and Beth better see to it,
ReplyDeleteAnon 6:46 am. See this article
ReplyDeleteBeth Rocked that food summit yesterday and the Mayor was a no show. Where the hell is Anne Mccgegor?
ReplyDeleteThank you 6:50...I did see the KCStar but remain fairly certain that the deal is wired already OR Polsonelli is using this as posturing to go to Kansas. My guess is much of their staff and heirarchy wants Kansas but it was reasoned that IF they can get a dominate location on the Plaza it would be better to stay there.
ReplyDeleteKansas location and incentives are very difficult to overcome. We'll see how much real KCMO civic loyalty there is at Polsonelli before the saga is over.
Who would post at 2 in the morning?
ReplyDeleteMaybe some of you should quit going to bars and start going to meetings. Surely government would get better and probably reporting too!
ReplyDeleteWonder how many seats the democrats will lose under talboys watch?
ReplyDeleteWomen in KCPD adopt new uniform?
