I noticed that all of my Star peeps are a tad saucy today.
And while I have more important news to blog, it's worthwhile to not only note the beginning of yet another round of Kansas City Star layoffs but also some serious allegations flying around via the screwed up corporate culture at the Crystal Casket.
Hearne Christopher throws some coin the way of TKC and today he writes up a rather detailed list of allegations regarding editor Mike Fannin:
There's a story about a couple of sexy extracurricular affairs.
Hearne writes about the guy's bastard child.
Best of all . . .
HEARNE CHRISTOPHER WRITES THAT KANSAS CITY STAR EDITOR MIKE FANNIN AND K.C. CONFIDENTIAL CONTRIBUTOR AND HOMIE CRAIG GLAZER DID COCAINE TOGETHER!!!
That kinda pisses me off, not because of any lapse in journalism ethics but because all of the freebies I get from KCC involve only a few free meals, a couple of beers and free tickets to local burlesque shows.
I've gotta raise my rates.
Anyhoo . . . I'm not sure if any of this hot mess will "bring down" the Star establishment or even result in any significant repercussions. From what I've seen That Star keeps a detailed tab of everyone else's wrongdoings but neglects to mention their own. And since the vast majority of the news TKC blogs is from the TV stations or original reporting . . . I don't really care about the fate of just another company amid The Great Recession that has seen far more important jobs lost.
Fuck that shiz.
ReplyDeletehurtz.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why this is worse than getting a DUI then bragging about it.
ReplyDeleteThe Star may be declining, but TKC is still just one guy's part-time blog operated from his mom's basement.
ReplyDeleteUmmm. Bastard child? That's so
ReplyDelete19th Century.
Someone doing a few lines of blow is really no big deal. Ask George W. or Barak O.? I am sure that Ronnie Boy did a few lines himself back in his hollywood days.
ReplyDeleteSnorting coke is not news.
Hearne Christopher looks as if he was probably a candidate for rehab himself.
Let he who has not hit the crack pipe cast the first stone.
Tony, your sweetie Hoopz may yet get that editor's job.
ReplyDeleteHOOOOOOOPZ!

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea in KC
So a free blog is "dancing on the grave" of a paper that can get people to pay for its product? Wake me when TKC has a subscription fee.
ReplyDeleteSeems like thru all the Stars lay offs the higher ups made some bad employment dicisions and probably let some good people get away. I can think of a few on the editorial board that should go.The star is in a tail spin.
ReplyDeleteI bet you were at home jerking off to gay porn when you got this info.
ReplyDeleteTee, I think somebody nailed you... even a premiere blogger in this town thinking you've got something on the paper of record that's been around since before your ancestors were grinding up beans and hand-making tortillas!
ReplyDeleteYou're not dancing on the Star's grave at all. They have you outgunned almost every day because they outnumber you, hundreds to ONE!
I know, ex Star reporters rejected with pink slip, like your compatriots over at Confidential, wish them failure.
But the corporation will figure out a way to adapt. I expect Kansascity.com completely SMOKES all us bloggers put together!
They may NEVER charge a subscription but they'll sell their space and not to just some car dealership brokered by an ex radio guy.
They'll cultivate the new delivery system and do just fine. Newspaper companies have a lot of sophistication behind them.
With someone like Helling on staff, Star online may even manage to outdo affiliate television on the web! Dave's smarter than virtually everyone putting out local newscasts.
It's change time. I'm sure they'll smoke you. Do you remember when small guys like you started up internet subscriptions? I do. I subscribed on KC's very FIRST internet provider.
but wasn't long before he sold out to the big boys. Now no longer small entreprenuers pioneering service, now powerhouses like Time Warner!
Similarly the big boys will turn guys like you and me into... into nothingness!
Five years, no more! WE do the innovation...and THEY figure out how to make the money offa it!
Rman sed it!
Classy cartoon... first time I ever saw eight good mexicans, all in one place.
