Finally, a bit of payoff in the overwhelming Latino support of Obama. While I was out and about this morning I noticed The Star picked up yesterday's New York Times feature:
Students Spared Amid an Increase in Deportations
Money quote: "The Obama administration, while deporting a record number of immigrants convicted of crimes, is sparing one group of illegal immigrants from expulsion: students who came to the United States without papers when they were children."
Of course, the case is even more noteworthy because it involves a local student, Yahaira Carrillo. And it relates to the flurry of Comprehensive Immigration Reform Protests that have been happening across the metro along with a great deal of local support for the Dream Act and in solidarity with these students who have luckily avoided deportation.

ReplyDeleteNo big surprise here. O-man's not much of enforcing laws and stuff like that. It takes away from extending socialism.
ReplyDeleteFagixcans all!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we don't want educated people in this country! White protestants are the indigenous people here, and we're gonna keep it that way!
ReplyDeleteGo Tea Party! Go Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck! Wooo! ARE YOU REDAY FER SUM FOOTBAAAAAL!
..And that's why Arizona did what they did - Cause the FEDS didn't want to ENFORCE THE LAW.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the law in OUR land says to harass Americans of hispanic descent for their papers in case they turn out to be illegal foreigners! Or it is now, anyway, since Arizona created that law. Shame on the FEDS for not enforcing that state law before it was created! I'm glad Arizona had the balls to create it AND enforce it! Let's all move there, who's with me?
ReplyDeleteWooo! USA! USA! Go Breitbart! Go Drudge! CARRY ON MAAH WAAAYWARD SUUNNNNNN!
Now if Obama could protect the rest of us from Kris Kobach .and UMKC School of Law.
ReplyDelete11:51, 12;28, and 12:30, whom I believe are all the same person- I hope you continue to believe that the anti-illegal immigrant movement is made up solely of white, Protestant, conservative racists. This will make it all the more stunning to you when true immigration reform takes place that is backed by an overwhelming majority (does 70% ring a bell?)of Americans of all colors and creeds. And please continue to rant against Kobach's right to free speech. It gives us a very clear picture of what your values are, i.e. the First Amendment applies only to those whose political philosophies agree with yours.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteNo, 12:53,
ReplyDelete12:30 is a different person.
And I'm right on the same page with you, brother! In fact, I think the "Anti-Illegal Immigrant Movement" doesn't quite go far enough! I like how Arizona thinks... why limit yourself to illegals when you can harass actual Americans, too? Ask everybody for their papers whether they're second, third or fourth generation hispanic Americans! If they're brown, WRITE EM DOWN!
In fact, if John Boener (keep him out of Arizona, btw, he's awfully tan) and the rest GOP can get the 14th amendment repealed like they're trying to (thereby no longer giving children born on American soil automatic citizenship), I say we make it retroactive! Get all those Italians out of here!
USA! USA! GITTER DUNNE! Woo!!! GIT A BRAIN, YOU LIBBRULS!
We Americans are used to showing our "papers" a loaded noun that actually means plastic drivers license.
ReplyDeleteDrivers licenses are a fairly legitimate document to identify us as a unique individual as well as a license to attest that we know what we're doing behind the wheel!
A social security card has likewise been a document to show our employers where to send our SS taxes into our 'account' to decide how we should be paid when we apply for benefits.
For MEXICANS who value their anonymity because there's no FINANCIAL REASON to decide otherwise, well, NON-DOCUMENTATION is a virtue.
In America, we value documentation, expecially at the END OF LIFE because it relates to the benefits we've paid in ALL OUR LIVES!
Mexicans know no such values. They HAVE no such agreement with government that to pay INTO a system will draw you your PAYBACK.
This is AMONG REASONS why Mexicans have no concept of wanting IDENTITY! No reason in Mexico to prove who he is! Nothing to gain from it. Anonimity is a good thing in Mexico.
Which is why they'll resist a unique idea 'work permit.' Mexicans aren't raised to think that 'registraion' has any personal value!
Mexico doesn't have such a mechanism to benefit its citizens so why SHOULD they want to feel 'registered' as a unique citizen?
Americans would probably feel the same way except that OUR SYSTEM provides for the concept of government payback for Social Security collected already, and are willing to pay back that and maybe more!
Libertarians may reject all of that but Republicans are more hypocritical about it. They reject it in philosophy, but not when they turn 65 and then they're hot to be quiet, and withdraw it!
It's always about the money! SIGH!
As long as they speak English in public and we don't have to "push 1 for English" anymore then I have no problem with this.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to be in the country, learn the language.
It always amazes me the funny rants from the haters---i.e. Krzy kris fluffers.
ReplyDeleteRepublicans are hiding behind Immigration issue so tea-baggers..soon to be tea-beggars. Will not notice the Republican party is the party for the Rich only. Republicans love to give tax breaks to those earning more than 250K..but nothing to those earning 25K.

jaajajaj..hahaha
Mexicans like Tony are bunch of whining little bitches.
ReplyDeleteHe's not Mexican? Now you tell me.
They are "undocumented Democrats", and that's the one and only reason the Obama administration is not enforcing the law. They will be given amnesty and will vote Democrat. If you think the Democrats have a noble motive, think again!
ReplyDeleteYet...the only President to grant Amesty was the Great White Hope Ronald Regan. He was down with the Latin Homeboyz...Regan knew you can't be a racist pig and expect to win a Presidential Election....just look what happen to Gov. Pete Wilson
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit disappointed why no one in this room hasn't acknowledged why Americans value 'identity' (social security) and Mexican's obviously DON'T!
ReplyDeleteI think this is SOOOO central to the issue of undocumented workers, whether citizens or not!
I am way less concerned about Mexicans who have a work permit than those who don't. Fact is, they should be paying social security and taxes and if by 62, manage to become citizens, they should be granted rights and a government check. No problem with that.
But those who want only cash and to send it back to mom? Well, that's a decision they made and if the government busts them and sends them back, well, so what?
Fingerprint them and if they come back, then let them spend some time in one of our prisons! And THEN send them back. Wanna return? Well fine but your time would better be spent making MEXICO hve a better economy than trying to just come up here to suck money from OUR economy to send home!!
Verdad?
Radioman the majority of undocumented residents (who you call Mexicans eventhough they aren't all from Mexico) do pay social security, medicare as well as state, federal and sales taxes. Sales taxes are paid through the obvious, the rest are paid through a system called ITIN which collects billions of dollars in taxes each year. They also contribute to hundreds of millions to our GDP.
ReplyDeleteEducate yourself on the topic my friend.
Good for Yahaira.
KCMO is infested with undocumented pharmacists and undocumented mural artists.
ReplyDeleteHow do you know that they are undocumented?
ReplyDeleteFunny...I went to Price Chopper and said I'm Illegal I don't have to pay sales tax. The cashier just laughed and charged me sales tax anyway.
