PR Clean Sweep For KCMO School District

KCTV5: Students, Alumni, Volunteers Clean Up KC Schools

The Star: Hands of Hope campaign spruces up KC School District buildings

Over the weekend this PR effort dominated headlines . . . Later this afternoon, TKC has a bit of real news from a rather awesome tipster to shed a bit more light on recent KCMSD Developments.

  1. The STUPID STAR tried to connect this effort to Covington, and I see that the $100,000+ a year district pr flack was right in the middle of the volunteers, giving the effort a cut-sie name, taking credit and sipping Starbucks from a to go container. What a fraud... these students are not Martha Stewart devotees, fresh paint is not going to be a game changer in their lives...they need people around them who can protect them from ghetto realities while learning about life and survival...stuff that IS not on a state math assessment test.

  2. This isn't a Covington initiative. The District did this last year and all the planning for it happened BEFORE Covington came into town. It was actually a KC church movement.

  3. 11:36 has it right. For example, the Church of the Resurrection has been helping schools out for several years. This year, COR is helping KCK schools. Just one of several churches helping the school districts in the metro.

  4. I do NOT want to criticize and fault these nice people who are going out and helping at the schools, but I see a disconnect here...

...and the story of SW High School is a microcosm of all that has gone wrong in a district that is bent on pursuing the latest fad in education while at the same time blaming, seeking revenge, and social engineering. I'd like to think that painting a school is going to help heal the altered and destroyed lives that have fallen in the name of KCSD and social justice.....

...At Banneker, principal Karol Howard surveyed the progress...

...The district greatly appreciates the help, said Steve Hansley, 46, the crafts and trades manager for the district...

..."This is huge," Southwest Assistant Principal James Kilgore.

...but I am afraid the painting is just a cover up of the disaster that is just ahead...like sprucing up the Maginot Line in August of 1939.
