Mayor Funky is still a lame duck, but that doesn't mean he's not dangerous.
To wit . . .
Check this e-mail to TKC:
"I know you think Deb is front runner, but look at this seriously.
"The problem for Deb is a pattern is developing for her of being sloppy about campaign donations. First is the problem with Ethics Commissioners who are supposed to monitor the campaigns being on her campaign committee and now the TIF director giving her $500. The two ethics commissioners have now resigned.
"I mean reporters are not stupid and both of her slip ups didn't take any big detective work---there were public record!
"Question---is Deb ready for the big time??? Not a great start.
"All I ask is that you not try to totally down play this because the Funk is involved and called her on it. It is her responsibility to know who is contributing and decline support that has now put her in a bad light. Who is running her campaign? She has take ultimate responsibility but she ought to be pissed at her campaign advisers for letting this happen."

Two things:
1. Strange that The Star is now reporting on ethics violations now that we have gone YEARS without any significant Kansas City ethics monitoring.
2. Of course Hermann is leading and that's why EVERYONE is coming after her.
3. With his wife still in office, Mayor Funky doesn't really have anything to say about Kansas City ethics.
4. If we're going to go over Campaign Finance records then Mayor Funky still has some accounting to do from years back around the time of his iPhone purchases.
Still . . . It's nice to be in the midst of the Mayoral campaign silly season.

Tony, good to see some "balanced" reporting for a change. Even if you don't like Funky, every move he makes isn't a mistake. Give credit when its due.

ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with members of the ethics commissioners donating to a campaign, as can (and do) city employees. There is no harm, no foul here.
The only thing foul about this entire thing is Steve Glorioso.
So, again, what did she do wrong? She was transparent? She asked for a legal opinion into how a TIF audit should proceed? Maybe we're holding it against her that she took charge and changed the committee assignment the minute it looked even a little political? Are we holding it against Rowland that $40,000+ dollars came from Burns & Mac and contractors? Are not developers donating to every candidate? Most of the Ethics Committee had donated to some political person - and yet Hermann was the only one called out? It is indeed interesting how the hounds will howl when they are not in the lead.

The last six months of this year is going to be painful.The more desperate the Co-mayors become the uglyier it will be. Go away Co-mayors or you will not be able to habitate here next year. You will be banished to the cabin. Think about your kids and potential significant others. You havent been able to employ them as Co-mayors.
ReplyDeleteDeb is a nice looking woman. To attack someone physically is really stooping, and shows desperation. To attack Funk physically is so damn easy, but there are plenty of other issues to nail him on, too. We don't need to stoop to physicality... just focus on the issues and who has the best leadership. It's Deb, by far.

ReplyDeleteDeb Herman looks like a very smart woman. I watch Channel 2 a lot and it seems to me that she knows how to get what she needs from the people who work for her. Seems to me that she has the benefit of all of their degrees. Also, I hope that people really aren't basing their vote on anyone's looks. That is wrong. If you are just trying to make mean jokes, I don't get it.

ReplyDeleteDeb is not the best choice for Mayor. She can't take the heat and she tiptoes across ethics lines all the time. KC will not feel she is well qualified. Burke and Rowland are the best challengers running. Although both can be as mean at times. Don't know Sly James.

Al Brooks was nice but clueless. Isn't there anyone in between? Yes, Deb poster, education and business accomplishment is important. I dodn't recall Deb ever having a eal job pre Council. Yeah, that matters. You learn important skils when you work for a living.
