Buying The Upcoming Aug. 3rd Election!!!

An interesting trend is at play in this upcoming Jackson County Election . . . It's not exactly new but highlights a long standing complaint about big money politics.

Put simply, there's an effort to basically buy a seat on the Jackson County Legislature despite little or no community support.

The most blatant example of this is Mr. Peanut's solo attempt to place Crystal Williams into power. The Grand Total of Mr. Peanut kindness now exceeded more than 20k with in-kind donations for campaign headquarters included. Here's a question:

JUST HOW MUCH WILL IT COST FOR MR. PEANUT TO BUY A PLACE ON THE JACKSON COUNTY LEGISLATURE?!?!?

Sadly, this runs counter to the best interests of local Democracy when well-funded special interests can buy a place at the table with very little community or neighborhood support. Nevertheless, in this David vs. Goliath campaign battle of political contributions . . . Crystal Williams still hasn't garnered very much support or endorsements from neighborhood or Community organizations . . . That's because her campaign isn't saying ANYTHING substantial beyond empty clichés regarding reform with NO clear cut plan to put her talk into effect.

DON'T COUNT ON CRYSTAL WILLIAMS TO FINALLY INTRODUCE CAMPAIGN FINANCE LIMITS AT THE COUNTY LEVEL SINCE HER ELECTION BID IS COMPLETELY DEPENDENT UPON THE GENEROSITY OF ONE OF THE RICHEST DUDES IN KANSAS CITY!!!

Similarly, when one guy holds that much sway and cash over a politico . . . That doesn't speak well of all the rhetoric regarding reform or offer much hope for direct Democracy.

To a lesser extent the same kind of big money politics is at play in the Riley vs. Arbanas race with Fred's homeboys throwing in $100k. While Arbanas does have a broader base of support than Crystal Williams . . . He has been out-campaigned on The Internet and on the streets of Jackson County so far. Arbanas is counting on big checks to keep him in power for 40 years.

Again, it's no big surprise that Jackson County Elections are seemingly for sale but the fact local millionaires weigh so heavily on the local vote is one of many reasons why the electorate isn't really engaged and mostly just wants to ignore the affairs of the County.

  1. No sir, I don't like it.

  2. Somebody should ask crystal williams if she received a second mortgage on her house from mr. nutter? Fred as well.

Jim Nutter is notorious for these campaign loop holes. He gives a second mortgage then forgives it after the election for nothing.

  3. Crystal has a problem and thats selling her soul for the money . I am really upset that someone can try to buy the whole process, I wont be voting for her because the real candidate is Jim Nutter and i don't know a thing about him .

I think you're more important point is about what Crystal stands for Tony.

I have met her nearly a half a dozen time and she doesn't remember my name and also doesn't say anything substantial. That's why I probably won't vote for her despite all the negative stuff I hear about henry.

  5. She doesn't have to say much with all that money

Williams is a real shame on all progressive women.

  7. Look for a major upset from Riley. 99% of voters don't pay attention to this blogging shit and Fred will succumb to the anti-incumbent mood.

  8. Very few endorsements actually mean anything. Even the most active groups only sent out maybe two mail pieces on your behalf and one will often be a ballot with many other names on it. The CCP mailer for example is extremely diluted with about 12 names on it.

  9. Crystal is IN TROUBLE because her campaign says nothing. And then went negative, how dumb does she think people are .She never has found an issue

Rizzo has been by my house twice in Raytown, and thats what gets my vote. Williams is thinking she can buy this election and hope she is wrong.

  12. stupid tony. never mentions local 42 and other unions bought Henry. And if you did a smidgen of investigation, ALL of his endorsement from "democrat groups" are chaired by his personal friends. They started them to give him endorsements. Bunch of retards. Real Special Olympic style.

  13. That's a good point; how is local 42 Louie Wright any different from Nutter? Nutter has even MORE money? Even though its actually his, not the "working man" he represents?

  14. Arbanas has been in office nearly 40 years and today nobody knows his name.

Mark Funkhouser has been in office nearly 4 years, and everybody knows his name.

I will take the former over the latter.

  15. The difference the union represent working people .Not one power broker millionaire. Crystal has sold our County.

If you sale your vote you violate the public trust. She has sold it very cheap 20000 and a campaign headquarters.

  17. Theresa Garza-Ruiz took Nutter and Louie money as well. Lady T is a huge crook.

  18. If you look at campaign contributions to all the candidates, you will find contributions from the same people and PACS to all the candidates. How is she a crook? She voted against spending money in the county for parties by various groups, against paying for another lawyer to help settle the Prosecutors dispute with Local 42. She sounds fiscally responsible to me.

  19. Hello she took money from power broker millionaire. She owes him not the people of Jackson County. When you take their money you know they will want public favors that that are in the best interest of the voters. 90 precent of her money from millionaire very bad.

  22. If where you take your money from is an indication of who you are protecting, then what does Rizzo's $100,000 loan say about who he is working for? THAT GUY CARES ABOUT NO ONE BUT NUMBERO UNO, Henry el Spaghetti Rizzo.

  23. 8:29 - Right on! The only question is, is he charging himself his normal pay day loan rate of 1000%? Watch it Henry, or KC Title Loan will come and repossess that nice black Mercedes! 4206 Truman Road! TMJJ Inc! Owned by Henry Rizzo!

  24. Dad! I want to be in a black Mercedes! Especially if its a guy ;)

  28. I like Lykins7/28/10, 6:57 PM

I went to the Northeast Chamber Meeting today, the special luncheon to meet both candidates. I don't normally go but wanted to hear what both had to say about ideas for business development. It was weird, Will Royster was there and had a great talk, but JJ was a no show. It just seems odd for someone who claims to care so much about the neighborhood would pass on an opportunity to meet 30 business leaders.

  29. And your post on Henry Rizzo who is in debt to his eyeballs magically lending himself 100k is where? Your post on JJ Rizzo who is unemployed magically lending himself 30k is where?

Tony. You're bought out. Everyone knows it now.
