AP Writer Claims JoCo Is More Politically Powerful Than Kansas City Proper!!!

A recent article recycles all of the same old clichés about The Suburbs as something more than a vast cultural wasteland. Sadly, nothing could be further from reality but an assertion in this bit of content did strike me as noteworthy: "A more nuanced portrait of Johnson County, Kansas emerges: an economic powerhouse that has eclipsed its big-city neighbor in political influence."

Interesting.

I'm not sure if it's accurate but if Kansas City's political power is dwindling than . . .

THERE'S NO ONE MORE TO BLAME THAN CO-MAYORS MARK FUNKHOUSER AND GLORIA SQUITIRO!!!

Seriously, as of this point they have no significant political allies and most of their media coverage is merely a bit of respect for the office and not the guy in charge. Of course, KC Proper has more political power than JoCo . . . But if this town's is slippin, as this AP writer suggests, Mayor Funky's Failed Administration must take the blame.

  1. Those two have got to go...preferably to their little cabin in the Ozarks where they can stay forever, not bothering us or fucking up KC any more

  5. Mayor Funk and his wife have had some of the most embarassing public moments in this city's history. His intransignece with regard to his wife's status in KC was, and is astonishing. Narcissistically dissociative. The mayor left no doubt that he honored his wife's ego, far more importantly than his civic resposibility as pertaining to his office.

All that notwithstanding, to say that he is resposible for KC's slide into mediocrity and malaise is a hell of a stretch.

This city's decline, inevitable, continuing decline, has much more to do with the imaginary line that separates the states, the form of govt. that makes our mayors no more influential than any city council member and ethnicity and age.

Our current form of city govt. reminds me of the monkey-football metaphor.

I am less than sanguine with regardd to any of these problems being solved.

    Arrange the deck chairs please.

  6. Yeah, it is true that there is a larger population in JoCo and a larger tax base. So, unless you determine importance on historical boundaries or demographics, JoCo is more important.

Ultimately, the other 2 commenters(anon and chuck) are right, this is a continuing decline that has been going on for at least 15 years. I'm not a huge Funky fan but you can't really lay decades of flight to the suburbs at his feet. What collectively is wrong with Kansas City is the damn preoccupation with state lines, and then north of the river versus south of the river. Until this city stops fighting with itself over every damn issue instead of becoming a metropolis we'll always lose out to big projects, contracts and companies.

Tony is such a deep thinker. Long term socio-economic trends don't register in his little pea brain. When any kind of crappy reality seeps in his head he blames it on his usual suspects (White people, Funks, conservatives etc).
It's sometimes amusing to read this train wrecks deep thoughts and opinions. What's scary is there seems to be quite a few people in lockstep with his idiotic ramblings.
Beating on dead horses indicates a sociopath.
