A real accomplishment for our inept police department.
ReplyDeleteThey'd get more offenders if they didn't announce in advance they were going to do it.
ReplyDeleteI made the one up on 169 last Saturday night. Breezed right through.
ReplyDeleteThe MoHiPo officer asked me where I was coming from (downtown), why (just got of work) and that's about it. Didn't ask for insurance paperwork.
When I told him where I worked he did say "Shouldn't you still be at work?"
He also said that they set up there because it was one of the favorite routes home of drunks coming from the P&L.
It was the first time I had seen a checkpoint like this one. When I came up over the hill at Briarcliff, I saw the really bright lights further up and figured that some emergency work was being done on one of the bridges.
Nope, no highway work going on. They'd built themselves a 3 lane checkpoint complete with huge night time highway work lights to go with their tow trucks and cop cars. Must have been 20 cop cars from the MoHiPo, Gladstone and Clay County.
MoHiPo cop did say that they'd hauled off a good number of folks (As their empty and dark vehicles could attest to) and even chased a few down when they tried to escape via I-29.
I told him it was great that the 20 HiPo cops left in the state were out picking up drunks. He got a laugh out of that one.
Also told him that K.C. had abandoned enforcement on that stretch of 169, to which he stated "Hmmm, really. I didn't know that".
Maybe we'll see more staties out cracking heads.
