There's no doubt, that thanks to AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS, we finished this week STRONG!!!
And while there's still more work to do . . . Let's take a moment to reflect and consider the most powerful people in Kansas City this week.
Check it:
POLITICOS
1. Henry Rizzo - He won the CCP Endorsement by a close margin but his victory demonstrates the guy's ongoing POWER and INFLUENCE despite so much criticism. Sometimes the close victories count just a little bit more . . .
2. Theresa Garza-Ruiz - This Trailblazing Latina Also WON AN ENDORSEMENT FROM THE COMMITTEE FOR COUNTY PROGRESS and she seems to be on a collision court with Rizzo. Clashing power players in Kansas City politics is actually quite good for local Democracy.
3. Rex Sinquefield - Money bags is going to make a change that just might result in higher property taxes but less of a burden for people out there earning. Life is give and take.
4. Deb Hermann - She voted against increasing this town's debt load with a recent bond issue and that's a powerful statement for fiscal responsibility.
5. Gloria Squitiro - The Co-Mayor called Council Women "Sorority Girls" and every day she's at City Hall she proves to be even more untouchable. That's a powerful statement about the way Kansas City works.
NEWSIES
1. Eric Wesson - A brilliant summation of a ground breaking series at The Kansas City Call regarding development dollars in the African-American Community was one of the most powerful articles written this week and it's nice to see a COMMUNITY NEWSPAPER show the rest of the local media how it's done.
2. Darla Jaye - The Queen of Talk Radio is one of my faves and I look forward to seeing her from time to time. With quite a few loyal listeners and devoted fans she hosts the most powerful program playing in Kansas City evening talk radio.
3. Steve Kraske - Nice guys can make power plays as well. This Star reporter pissed everybody off with his profile of Funky Chief of Staff Kendrick Blackwood but folks might not have noticed that the strong reaction could have been the bigger objective of the article that so many called a "puff piece."
4. Chris Stigall - For a d-bag with a small audience, my least favorite media person made a powerful play for attention this week with his ongoing trash talk concerning his former buddy Mayor Funky. For reactionaries, backstabbing is a powerful gesture and I wish the guy good luck with guests like Frances Semler.
5. Lisa Lopez - She's the managing editor of Dos Mundos and she consistently puts together great stuff at one of the most beloved COMMUNITY NEWSPAPERS ins Kansas City.

A brief respite: I don't want to seem like a self-help guru because I don't really want to help any of you d-bags. However, let's remember that part of life's journey is to call upon the strength of our knowledge and experience as we get older. So, we can remember Rue McClanahan fondly along with the rest of the Golden Girls while realizing that Betty White is still a force to be reckoned with . . .
FAILING INSTITUTIONS
1. The Big 12 - Kansas City looks on helplessly as another local institution betrays this town in the long run and could wreck this town's finances.
2. The Kansas City Star - Let's not forget that dead tree media grows more obsolete every day. And the business of selling dead trees with history printed on top is going the way of the buggy whip.
3. The CCP - Sure, they have a big party that made a lot of noise but even the most loyal members wonder if all political clubs in this cowtown aren't merely Paper Tigers.
4. City Hall - This town's debt gets bigger, money continues to be wasted, there isn't enough leadership and the elections just seem to bring out the worst in everyone. Four years after promises of reform, Kansas City remains disgusted with so many of our elected officials.
5. The P&L District - Parties are nice but this town was promised a Downtown Renaissance, not an annual bill for $12 million.
Of course, this list has been compiled according to scientific TKC polling and market research data and represents the strongest analysis of local power players.
Great Betty White photo
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely an election year.
ReplyDeleteIt's no wonder things have gone wrong in Jefferson City. Kansas City is full of democrats that are busy attacking their own instead of working together on fundraising and campaigning. Hopefully this post won't cause a cesspool of "democrats" attacking one another for political consultant contracts like the last CCP post brought about.
Best post yet 7:36. I agree save the petty attack posts people. They are about as important as a Perez Hilton tweet.

ReplyDeleteHi Moreno
Genaro Ruiz really botched things for Crystal Williams at the CCP, which only goes to show that Crystal is dominated by Theresa Garza-Ruiz and her Keeper Kim Carlos.
ReplyDeleteCrystal did not even show enough gumption to speak for herself.
If Theresa and Genaro have recruited Moreno to fight their fights, then this election will be one of the dirtiests in Jackson County history. And it looks like Moreno will do mailings for Will Royster and Terry Riley at least.
Nobody gives a shiz about Jackson County.
ReplyDeleteI agree nobody gives a shit. But jxco and kcmo use tony for their amateur political theatrics. He gets em, so he runs em.
ReplyDeleteThey need their own website. Or just open up a room in one of the more multipurpose/multi chat sites like KansasCity.com.
Standard blog software like this leaves some to be desired. Tee could stand to use his real estate better.
Get rid of "KC News Bloggers" which is just a duplication and more exposure than Alonzo is worth. Add another 5 or 6 on KC Bloggers via TKC, and dump his 'ads' if they don't really pay. Or at least cut them down to 1 inch. They're not worth the trouble.
I like the layout of some of the national ones better so you don't have to wade thru the crap like JXCO and Funk for more interesting stuff.
Its just a matter of what software and gadgets to use.
This Blog like the La_Raza Garza ruiz klan are worthless self promoters who use their cuzin Antonio to tar and feather the competition. This site is more propaganda than news anyway.
ReplyDeleteMoreno has some serious stalkers on here slinging bullshit around like gorillas at the zoo. Pathetic!
ReplyDeleteYeah the b.s. is getting really deep. 10:47pm can you give your source or back up your assumptions with facts? Because Perez Hilton has more credibility than these comments.
ReplyDeleteI'd vote for Deb if she didn't try to balance the budget on the backs of the employees.
ReplyDeleteI am growing to love Chris Moreno more and more after taking a stand at the CCP.
ReplyDeleteEveryone there saw Henry visibly shaken. That vote was too close for his comfort.
9:41... the employee salaries are one of the few adjustable parts of the budget. She didn't have much choice, and voted against the bond issue because the employers haven't had a raise in 3 (or is it 2?) years. Either number... it's too long. Deb has always been supportive of KCMO employees. She has earned your vote.
