Immigration talk is still heating up the Midwest and the Queen of Kansas City Talk Radio Darla Jaye and I are going to debate the subject once again tonight.
I'm gonna try to do some myth-busting on a number of subjects regarding the undocumented but I'll start by noting that fears of immigrants taking jobs are unfounded.
AP: Nebraska unemployment rate improves to 4.9 percent
Also, fears about "illegals" and crime are also skewed.
Cato Institute: Misguided Fears of Crime Fuel Arizona Immigration Law
LA Times: "Statistics show foreign-born residents commit fewer crimes, but backers of an illegal immigrant law say public safety is their key motivation."
Hill Blog: "Violent crime rates in the state and along the southwest border region have been declining. In fact, it’s fair to say the border region has become safer over the last few years, and that Arizona’s new law actually undermines community safety."
And as far as the chances of these laws succeeding in court. They'll be expensive to defend and: Most critics claim that these kind of "laws violated the Supremacy Clause and the 14th Amendment. Under the Supremacy Clause in Article VI of the U.S. Constitution, state courts may not supersede federal law."
Also, "Federal courts have a track record of rejecting similar ordinances, including a Hazleton, Pennsylvania provision that would have penalized landlords and businesses for dealing with illegal immigrants, according to the AP. And a federal judge also rejected a Farmers Branch, Texas ban on renting to those in the country illegally."
It should be a good discussion and without question TKC Vs. Darla is the best liberal vs. Conservative match-up in Kansas City despite the fact I didn't know I was liberal.

For realz doh
ReplyDeleteYou're cherry picking your facts, bud. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteI have my finger up my quim again.
ReplyDeleteNice Try Tony. Darla kicked your ass.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good posting of fact. But the current hysteria is paranoia, & by definition, paranoia is not impressed by facts.
ReplyDeleteIt's still cherrypicking byron. Just look at the LA report. Citing property crimes, saying they're down. Compared to what?
ReplyDeleteRead the story and its not property crimes that concern people, its crimes against persons.
Fact is, barrio neighborhoods are just plain dangerous in certain cities. Its not about color. it's bout poverty and drugs.
Parts of Mexico City look like Ward Parkway, all right. I've been there. but other parts don't.
THEY're the ones coming up here. And certain border towns are dangerous. There are other statistics showing the thousands of people killed by the cartels. Which are moving north.
Cherrypicking my man. Don't be distracted by your favorite color. It comes with crime. People are more accountable when documented. Is there some reason why you are so interested in anonymity?
List your name and crimes radioman, before you call out anyone else you perv.
ReplyDeleteTony argued that stopping what AZ is doing is to "maintain" control of immigration enforcement solely to the Federal gov't. What about sanctuary cities? Aren't they doing the same thing? Not allowing the enforcement of ICE?
ReplyDeleteWhy is Tony taking the side of criminals?
ReplyDeleteMaybe Tony is a criminal too.
I assume Obama will soon announce he plans to sue sanctuary cities.
ReplyDeleteTony, do you favor the feds suing sanctuary cities?
If you are consistent, you do.
Why is that consistent?
