It has been a long week full of the kind of nasty political fighting that defines Kansas City. Here's one more effort to put things in perspective regarding typical Jackson County political bickering.
Let's look at the highlights and try to put things in perspective:
The week started off with reaction to the CCP endorsements and a story that Congressman Cleaver's staffer Genaro Ruiz was under fire by Jackson County Legislators Henry Rizzo and James Tindall. I posted an on-the-record reaction and noted that a key passage in the story was using an unnamed source (just like a blog) and a rather entertaining media slapfight ensued.
But now things are getting serious . . .
KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS NOTE THAT JAXCO LEGISLATOR TINDALL IS STILL PISSED THAT GENARO RUIZ CALLED HIM A FELON AND IS GATHERING SUPPORT TO MOVE AGAINST RUIZ POLITICALLY!!!
Cleaver has stood by Ruiz from the outset but now there's word that Rev. Miles and Rev. Hartsfield and Rev. Sam Mann have expressed a bit of outrage on the subject.
I just got off the phone with Genaro Ruiz and he doesn't want to make a comment about the political pushback coming his way.
Here are my first two thoughts on the subject: Ruiz stated a fact. Tindall is a former felon. He did some time and turned his life around and then went on to do some interesting stuff like help get a HUGE homeless grant for The County. His constituents obviously don't have much of a problem with his past given that he has won his office by CONSIDERABLE margins.
In this era of mass incarceration we have to determine if it's still acceptable to use prison time as a "scarlet letter" to employ against politicos.
But this isn't about social justice, it's about an upcoming election.
It's easy for me to see the Theresa Garza-Ruiz is going to destroy her opposition and this controversy has done nothing more than inspire her supporters and win even more fans.
Meanwhile and even more interestingly . . .
WHAT I SEE DEVELOPING IS YET ANOTHER RACIAL DEBATE THAT COULD RECKLESSLY DRAW A WEDGE BETWEEN THE LATINO AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMMUNITY OVER JACKSON COUNTY CONTROVERSY!!!
Real Talk: The behind the scenes strategy to turn Ruiz into a white guy and use tired racism and discrimination complaints aren't going to work because the dude is a Latino. Because a great many of the Revs. are out of touch or behind the times, they don't know many other tricks or just don't see the difference.
And all of this is over a race between Henry Rizzo and Crystal Williams.
There is no doubt that it's gonna be close but at this point suspicions about Crystal Williams ability to win on her own merits have been called into question. Williams and her campaign are struggling and the negative campaigning undertaken has only served to make her look like even less of a viable option. Like him or not, people know what they're getting with Rizzo whereas Williams has only been defined by her bumbling, inability to communicate effectively for herself and a light resume when it comes to local government. At this point, as a candidate, Crystal Williams is the weakest link in her own campaign.
In the next 7 weeks we can only look forward to more fighting and that favors steadfast politicos like Garza-Ruiz and Rizzo whereas so many others in Jackson County politics are content only to whine and do nothing but complain when faced with setbacks.

Theresa is using Union money to run against a strong Union incumbent. That is playing with fire.
As far as Genaro's job with Cleaver goes, it is safe for now because Cleaver cannot be seen to cave into pressure, but Genaro is on his way out.
Shoot, last year Genaro was telling people that he was tired of working for the "old tar baby" but he could not find a good paying job that did not ask too much by way of work.
Henry will win. Theresa will pay the price. Genaro is Dog Meat. Sharon is just a dog that sucked the dick of a guy who died in the trunk of his car.
This is ugly. Let's have some FACTS ...Crystal needs to get active....
ReplyDeleteCrystal needs to focus on wrong-doing. She made great gains when she focused on the "Fake Krystal" then she wondered off and let Genaro vent about how the Felon treated his wife.

Crystal should file a complaint about the other candidate in the race and how they were let in through a side door to file as the last person possible.
Depose Henry Rizzo, John Joseph Rizzo, Hila "Dutch" Newman, Michele Newman, Mary Jo Spino and Angela Castle. Swear them in and ask them about their knowledge of the introduction of the last candidate on the ballot and their relationships with Henry Rizzo.
When "Dutch" thinks about death in prison, or that skaggy daughter of hers thinks about sending he mother to prison, then the birds will sing. Mary Jo needs to go to prison any way around it.
Show some backbone Crystal. Get the job done.

ReplyDeleteOnce a felon that person should be ineligible for any elected, appointed, or hired public or government position.
Elected - as in on a ballot - legislator, representative, collector, mayor, etc.
Appointed - any board or commission chair or member, judge at any level.
Hired - any position that is on the payroll, as in lawyer, clerical, driver, common labor
Are the above bloggers Republican because they sure sound like it. Theresa is burning so many bridges for Crystal I hope it's worth it ,she will lose and then be stuck with all the baggage. It's the move of a rookie.
