Kansas City is politely ignoring Mayor Funky as the election draws near. Still, in a desperate attempt to remain relevant, Kansas City' Co-Mayor continues his "LEADERSHIP BY PRESS CONFERENCE" by engaging in embarrassing displays that only feature the dude pandering for support and taking credit for stuff he didn't do.
Today's example . . .
MAYOR FUNKY IS PLANNING AN UPCOMING PRESS CONFERENCE TO PUT HIMSELF AT THE CENTER OF PIAC FUNDING REQUESTS!!!
Cash requests for the Public Improvements Advisory Committee are always a big deal among neighborhood activists and volunteers in the know . . . Sadly, Mayor Funky is seemingly attempting to make folks kiss his ring for the cameras in order to get their cut.
KICKASS TKC TIPSTERS are frustrated with his current plan and note the strategy developing on his facebook page. Ugh.
"Almost 600 people or organizations - so far - have answered the call to tell the city how to spend $24 million earmarked for neighborhood improvement projects. As of Monday morning, more than 580 applications have been submitted. The deadline for applications is Wednesday.
With two days left, I urge everyone in Kansas City to look around for projects that will make an immediate difference in their neighborhoods. Look for small projects like sidewalks, catch basins, park facelifts. Look for things where a small expenditure will have a large impact on your neighborhood.
Any city resident or organization can file an application for the projects."
Sadly, Mayor Funky is taking credit for offering a simple link to PIAC applications on his facebook page. This could be one of the worst self-congratulatory moves in Kansas City politics in recent memory.
Even worse . . . Sadly, given that the guy is so "smart with the money" what goes unmentioned here is that the money the Mayor and The City Council approved for neighborhoods is BASED ON A BOND SALE THAT HAS YET TO TAKE PLACE!!!

Even worse, his little shin-dig tonight at the Mohart Center at around 6:30 in the PM is nothing more than a gesture toward the Eastside that makes it seem like he's taking special note of their requests IF they ask nicely while giving the impression it was all his doing.
Mayor Funky's sideshow is playing with this town's purse strings for the purposes of his campaign and once again demonstrates that the only thing he has learned during his tenure is how to throw a press conference with very little substance.

SO... people have submitted nearly 600 PIAC requests and the Mayor is taking credit for them. That's lovely. Will he also take credit for the fact that a very small percentage of those requests will actually be funded? Will he have a press conference on that? Doubtful, unless Kendrick runs out of things to do.

ReplyDeleteJust wait until all those people who asked for sidewalks or curbs get an assessment in the mail - PIAC does NOT pay for sidewalks or driveway approaches - the residents WILL STILL be billed - but it will be a year from now - conveniently after the election I am sure.
