With more than 3 years in office Mayor Funky still hasn't learned how to put on a decent public meeting.
Very much like his "Schools First" failure that left the Sprint Center almost completely empty, Mayor Funky isn't going to have a big turnout for his LAST State Of The City speech this week.

Why?

Well, once again neither Gloria Squitiro nor Kendrick "Don't Bother Me" Blackwood bothered to check the calender this week and might not have noticed that . . .
THURSDAY'S COUNCIL LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND BUSINESS SESSION HAVE BEEN CANCELED!!!
Plain and simple, when City Hall is buzzing with people doing business it's more likely that the speech will have greater attendance.
It gets worse . . .
MORE THAN A FEW COUNCIL PEOPLE WILL BE ON VACATION, OUT OF TOWN OR SKIPPING MAYOR FUNKY'S STATE OF THE CITY SPEECH!!!
As of late, even Mayor Funky's town halls have had rather sparse attendance.
My thesis:
KANSAS CITY IS POLITELY IGNORING MAYOR FUNKY UNTIL HE'S OUT OF OFFICE!!!
This is a typical, passive-aggressive "Kansas City way of doing things" that's already crippling Mayor Funky politically. Nevertheless, we have to remember that for both former Mayors Kay and Cleaver these State Of The City speeches were the highlights of their year and because of bad planning and a lack of any real goodwill . . . Mayor Funky's Last State Of The City Address looks to be yet another dud of a public event.
I'm not going.
ReplyDeleteBoycott.
ReplyDeleteWE do not need the Council or the people of Kansas City! We ENJOY having the stage to ourself!
ReplyDeleteIn the second term, we plan to sell the council into slavery and rule by fiat.
I AM the Consort of Gloria! I have bred with Her -- I think. I have swam naked with Her in Vermont and bared my "little thing" to Her in the open air (as reported by Her in one of those great Holiday Letters.) I AM THE POWER OF THE CITY THAT WORKS.
Anyway, stay home you losers.
Will Gloria be there?
ReplyDeleteand that, ladies and gentlemen of Kansas City, is what is so great about this mayor and his wife--they screw things up so well on their own that we can be assured of not having to put up with them as co-mayors in the next go-round.
ReplyDeleteThank God and goodness,
Mo Rage
Who are the highlighted guests? Surely not the character from New Jersey. How are his legal entanglements? What neighborhood leader is so desperate for recognition that she will allow herself to be used?
ReplyDeleteYou have to understand...he scheduled the State of the City to be June 17th, then last Thursday the Council canceled the Business and Legislative Sessions. It wasn't the Mayor's office scheduling snafu, it was the Council purposefully canceling the day's activities for them because many of them will "be on vacation."
ReplyDeleteA failure of a final speech. Way to go out with a bang Funk!
ReplyDeleteCo-Mayors are TRASH
ReplyDeleteCouncil "purposefully" cancelled city hall business activities? A majority choose to turn their backs on a sitting mayor? Many not even bothering to create a better excuse than the thin "vacation" gambit. Do not lay your failure at the feet of this council.
ReplyDeleteThis administration started out rocky with the cheap grab for material plums. This administration lowered civility with it's backwoods antics. This administration created a mayor's office that in effect doesn't know how to wash their hands. They are dirty mouthed, socially corrupted individuals who have been thwarted by the very people they tried to exploit.... "regular folk" on both sides of the river.
6/15/10 9:46 AM
Sadly 9:46, I'm not sure what your point was. When were you being sarcastic and when weren't you?
ReplyDeleteMaybe your shitty hall colleagues know, but... well I don't.
I just know that shortly before 10am, you clearly aren't doing your job if your salary is paid by taxpayers. We dont' pay you to play politics, we pay you to make our city work.
If you don't want to do that, then find another job, but of course you won't.
Petty bureaucrats indulging in petty politics while on the job is exactly why I shed no tears about bureaucratic layoffs if they're in middle management for six figure salaries.
If the city's going to cut more staff, make sure they work in private offices at Shitty Hall, not in the field or in engineering, where the actual work's being done!
As long as council is not in session, they cannot pass more laws or shuffle more money (they don't have) around.
ReplyDeleteIf you're actually doing a legit service (ie actually in the streets working) you can stick around. If you're just sitting on your duffs and collecting a paycheck off my money, you can go.
Those elected don't really represent citizens of Kansas City anyhow. They just feed off of us like leeches.
The City Council has more canceled meetings for time off than I ever saw. Who ever heard of canceled due to not having a quorum? That's rediculous. If they don't want to be there don't run again. We don't want to pay the laziest council in decades. Do some real media work and tell us how may council meetings have been canceled this term. Include committee meetings, legislative and business sessions.
ReplyDeleteTony, will you be in attendance? I bet Gloria would love to chat with you atthe reception following the speech.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a threat or maybe a love connection.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Co-mayors could have the address from their front porch at a precise time. He wouldnt need to leave his house as usual. What a joke.
ReplyDeleteagreed. put it on the porch spare us the expense.
ReplyDeleteNormally I would say yeah put it on his front porch. only said shack is under insured. That would put KCMO at a risk. Slip and fall, falling shingles, loud mouth lout squitiro cursing out a citizen.... again. Food poisoning, What have you. No that hole is not up to city hall standards for holding a public meeting. Makes me wonder why Troy Schulte continues to meet squitiro at the shack. Has he no balls?
ReplyDeleteNo liability worries on west 57th terr no one will show. Neighbors might be miffed with a few gawkers. Park the pink truck out back for goodness sakes.
ReplyDeleteThis city council has not canceled any more meetings than any other council that I can recall. The council did not cancel to throw a wrench into the mayors' speech. There were going to be many out of town and there was not pressing business. It's just a bonus to get to miss the speech.
ReplyDeleteThin Margin has it right.
ReplyDeleteWe should all be VERY ANGRY at ANY Council member you has such poor judgment that they would actually show up for this speech.
ReplyDeleteFunkhouser has embarrassed Kansas City ENOUGH.
He has insulted City Council Members ENOUGH.
Enough is enough, Council Members ... we expect you to BOYCOTT. And we will remember anyone who DOES attend.
Agreed. Everyone really should boycott this rude joke of a Mayor.
