TKC BREAKING NEWS!!! GREATER KANSAS CITY AFL-CIO LEAVE ENDORSEMENT "OPEN" IN CONTENTIOUS JACKSON COUNTY RILEY VS. ARBANAS RACE!!!
Critics are saying that once again money wins out over loyalty when it comes Union endorsements in Kansas City politics.
Last night, The Greater Kansas City AFL-CIO was screening for endorsements and decided to leave a very important call "open" when it comes to a crucial Jackson County race.
Council Dude Terry Riley made a strong play for the Union endorsement and all of Kansas City knows he has the BIG MONEY of The Heavies behind him even if he doesn't get any other support.
Meanwhile . . . Fred Arbanas has been a life long "Union Guy" and is currently taking part in a collective bargaining agreement involving The County right now.
While Riley can challenge Arbanas competently on many other fronts . . . Without question Arbanas had dedicated a great deal of his career to serving Union interests for better or worse and should have more standing with The AFL-CIO by all accounts.
AND FOR ALL HIS TROUBLE THE AFL-CIO LEFT ARBANAS TWISTING IN THE WIND!!!
Make no mistake, a great many critics of this decision are calling the "OPEN" endorsement a cop out and a bit of a reflection that the Union endorsement is merely "open" to the highest bidder.
The GKC AFL-CIO can't afford to piss off The Heavies in this economy . . . Credit to Council Dude Terry Riley, he played this bit of leverage perfectly.
However, in the eyes of quite a few witnesses of this move . . . It just makes Union service seem a little bit less rewarding and undependable.
No confidence.

ReplyDeleteThat endorsement was lost when Karen Conrad tried to shake down the Chamber of Commerce on behalf of Fred "I played before face masks" Arbanas.

I would not be surprised if that is not pointed out to Jackson County voters through a few mail pieces in the weeks to come.

ReplyDeleteYes bring in the FBI. According to today's Star story and Tony's previous writings the City's Ethics Commission is tolly conflicted and should resign. The latest is 4 of the 7 Commissioners giving money to candidates for Mayor. Deb Hermann who has 2 donors on the Commission says all they need to do is recuse themselves on her campaign reports. What doesn't she get about ethics? The Commission has also sat on the Funkhouser invesgative audits on his office for over a year and they never even taken up the Terry Riley allegations. Yes the FBI would be welcomed.

I got a card with the Chiefs playing schedule on it from some guy named Arbanas. In the twenty years I have been in Kansas City I have never gotten anything from him --does this mean that the Chiefs need supporters and he is using his political position to try and get somebody to go watch the losers, or does it mean that he thinks that some one will vote for him because he made them aware of the schedule, or is he still trying to parlay his Football "career" into one more term sleeping at the county meetings?
ReplyDeleteTerry Riley is a nice guy but why would anyone trash Fred Arbanas and Karen Conrad to support him? Arbanas and Conrad are great people. I've attended almost every County meeting held in 10 years and have yet to see Arbanas sleep in one. I was thinking of supporting Riley but if they are going to trash a guy like Arbanas for votes, I'll vote Arbanas.

When Terry Riley stoops to the level of paying some political consultant to create "mail pieces" or even post untrue comments on a blog about his opponent's legislative aide, then I think we are hearing the death rattle of Terry's political life.
ReplyDeleteTerry is anything BUT a nice guy. He is a bully and a thug and is under criminal investigation if people believe the FBI subpoenas and records searches. Between Perfect Output and the Citadel, he is probably looking at an indictment. Why anyone would vote for that is beyond me.

ReplyDeleteKaren Conrad and Fred Arbanas are both really great people. I think Terry Riley is also a friendly guy who has a lot of support. Not sure why he has to attack his opponent and his opponent's aide to win though?
