Here's a typical headline regarding local investment: "Braves sweep Royals"
This kind of news would be embarrassing to this town if it wasn't so commonplace. So, millions of local tax dollars won't lift the team out of the doldrums. The announcement of an MLB All-Star game on their home field didn't help. Kansas City knows we shouldn't hold our breath waiting for a competitive team . . . Sadly, local politicos have thrown good money after bad for these consistent losers.

Hi my name's Tony, and I hate Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteTrue dat.
ReplyDeleteWhy criticize us getting the All-Star Game and saying it won't help Kansas City?
ReplyDeleteAny business of this sort helps Kansas City. It's not the total solution to everything, but it certainly helps.
What if we get a new mayor and council, and they get all of the sewer and water problems fixed? Or at least make a start on it?
Would you say that won't help, because, after all, we still have a lot of crime and the schools are bad?
Or what if crime is decreased? Well, that's not enough because we still have the sewer and water problems.
Improvement comes in single steps. When KC makes progress by getting the All-Star Game, getting the Big 12 Basketball Tournament or getting or retaining a new industry, don't criticize. Be thankful.
In every game, someone wins and someone loses. I think that baseball ( and organized sports of every kind) would benefit from the " If you win, you get paid. If you lose, you do not." theory. Those magnificent salaries are an assured thing, and people forget their passion to succeed.
ReplyDeleteBaseball is a hard game to get...losing isn't the worst thing that can happen...my best baseball days go back to the Kansas City A's...Nelson Matthews, Bill Byran, Dick Green, Little Campy...many, many people will look back at these days years from now and will have many similar warm memories...
