There is A LOT of excitement building over The NAACP's 101st annual convention coming to Kansas City next month. Speakers like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Michelle Obama will highlight the event. KCTV5 has a preliminary look at the agenda.
July 9: ACT-SO competitions and convention registration.
July 10: Registration, Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technologic and Scientific Olympics competitions, health symposiums and the commerce and industry show.
July 11: Dr. Stephen Thurston's breakfast prayer, officer meetings, various workshops and ACT-SO and NAACP youth social.
July 12: Session hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama, regional meetings, first plenary session (hosted by NAACP President Benjamin Jealous), religious leaders luncheon hosted by the Rev. Dr. Julius Scruggs, ACT-SO awards and a spoken-word poetry slam for youth.
July 13: Regional meetings, job fair, panel hosted by "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" actress Tatyana Ali and reception for delegates.
July 14: Regional meetings, plenary sessions by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and a night of gospel music.
July 15: Youth wrap session, national board of directors meeting and an awards banquet honoring Cicely Tyson.
