ReplyDeleteI am a conservative Republican with a daughter who married a mixed-race man. My grandchildren will probably be of a darker complexion. I have no problem with this.

I was sitting in a McDonald's the other day and a white man was in the next booth with his two "black" grandsons. They were having a great time, and the love from all sides was evident.
There are exceptions to every rule, but in general conservatives respect the individual and don't try to lump everyone into some category. You should try this approach, Tony. It's quite liberating.

I was confused on what this was about the 4 times I've been pulled over this summer already while driving under the speed limit courtesy of my cream colored VW Beetle convertible's "suspicious vehicle description" and then told to have a good day after seeing my license and spotless driving record.
I was confused what this was about while watching Arizona legislators try to push to deny citizenship to my future children who will be proudly born and raised on U.S. spoil if I so choose to fall in love with a non-citizen foreign resident documented or undocumented.
I was confused on what this was about when Kobach's organization FAIR received from and donated to white supremacist leaders and organizations, when neo-nazis are shown with automatic weapons harassing peaceful protestors in Arizona and when Arizona businesses are beginning to place hate signs on their business windows like it was 1940.
I was confused on what this was about when Arizona banned cultural and ethnic studies and literatures courses and books as well as ESL courses in schools.
I was also confused on what this was about when supporters of SB1070 demanded a school district in Arizona change the skin color of a young boy depicted on a mural from brown to white.
But hey thanks for clearing that up. Just clear up one more thing for me. Explain again how these anti-immigrant laws secure the border?

Having lived in Northeast off and on for 27 years, I can appreciate the culture that the Latino's have brought to the community, but I can also tell you from personal experience that if you are in a car accident here, the driver probably doesn't have insurance, and probably isn't here legally, so you're screwed.
ReplyDeleteThe point is, while I sympathize with someone who just wants to find a good job to support his or her family, if you're here illegally, you're not just breaking the law when you cross the border, you're also breaking the law every time you don't pay your taxes, drive a vehicle without a license or insurance, etc. and you put the other people in your community at risk.
Also, I'm aware that my daughter will probably marry a Latino.

ReplyDelete7:06am how can someone get car insurance if they aren't legally allowed to purchase it? Social Security, The IRS and a number of educational institutions have proven and testified before Congress that undocumented workers do pay taxes and contribute to the economy.
ReplyDeleteIn 2006, the IRS told Congress that undocumented residents, utilizing the ITIN system, have been reporting tax liability to the tune of almost $50 billion from 1996 to 2003. During the same period $41.4 billion was paid to Social Security and Medicare.
The IRS also confirmed to the USA today that $90 billion from 2000-2008 were paid. If you take the same increase on Social Security and Medicare you get almost $80 billion more. That's just federal taxes.
Middle Tennessee State University calculated in 2006 that illegal immigrants contributed $428 billion dollars to the nation's $13.6 trillion gross domestic product and that today the number is well over $600 billion.
Beyond federal taxes, all illegals automatically pay state sales taxes that contribute toward the upkeep of public facilities such as roads that they use, and property taxes through their rent that contribute toward the schooling of their children.
If tax liability is the excuse then let's bring these men and women into society legally or just help promote the ITIN system in your area. Otherwise stop cryin.
