There is nothing like a media slap fight to keep the news interesting and the debate over TKC whining about an unsourced bloggy quote from Veteran Kansas City Star Reporter Dave Helling has now been examined by Kansas City's Media Referee John Landsburg at Bottom Line Communications.

Star newsies like to justify their lapses in all kinds of interesting ways that aren't even as convincing as their continued claims of the Newspapers financial health after every round of layoffs. Meanwhile, I'm a blogger and I think a great many journalistic conventions are pretense, illusions and empty promises. The Internet is about EXPEDIENCY and nothing more.
Still, I think Landsburg does a fair and balanced analysis of the slap fight which reminds me that I gotta get some new clothes.
It also makes me reminisce of the days when we were all friends.
Or maybe I just lament that The Girls Next Door spinoffs aren't as good as the original.

ReplyDeleteTony can debate the whole his importance as a "journalist" or blogger all he wants, and might even get some of the scraps of recognition he's so desperate for. but the only thing conclusive is that he is, first and foremost, an asshole.
ReplyDeleteI bet Tony has never made something up, bent the truth, or removed a link from his sidebar in his life. Or ignored linking to people he doesn't agree with. In fact, I think he might be teaching a rather gully ethics of journalism class at UMKC next fall. He's just a total paragon of virtue and high standards when it comes to class, truthfulness and serving the greater good instead of promoting himself. He even was on a panel one time. You guys need to recognize.

Yeah, he doesn't like me much either. Well a little maybe. He tolerates me probably only cause I'm once in awhile, albeit rarely, interesting and on point.
ReplyDeleteHe does not go out of his way to mention me though, like say the police chief. (Course everybody sucks up to the cops because they have the news on most days and if they don't like you, they won't tell you anything.)
That said, I was admittedly disappointed that Bottom Line noted Dave has pulled Tony's link. That just doesn't sound like Helling. He's always been above shit like that, or else I'm blinded by his Light. Here I thought he's walked on water all these years, like the fifth Beatle he is.
Tony's kinda backing down, now pretending that the Star he so rabidly rips is supposed to have, is EXPECTED to have, standards Tony doesn't.
I kind of understand. We all love Tony secretly even though we have to hold our noses sometimes because he can be SOOOO irresponsible, sometimes.
Well, we don't LITERALLY love him, but we love to stop by and see what outrageous thing he's going to do next. So we love him like we love Madonna or Lindsay Lohan. Just irresistibly entertaining! Hell, I check Tony before I check my own email! I admit it!
It would be better if ALL OF YOU did your best work and followed the same principles of posting TRUTH, not unverified shit. That you resisted being used by lying politicos.
I don't know Rizzo, but if he's part of the local political machine, I might see him saying one thing to Dave, and another thing to Tony. And then wishing you'd BOTH go away instead of pissing on each other and blowing the whole thing up. For frankly, it's RIZZO who looks the worse for it, tryin to get some Mexican guy fired.
Ya know, Tony. I've always resented black people always sticking together, right or wrong. I feel the same way about brown people, and white people. While we're tribal, all right, what misplaced loyalties! You do notice that not all LAWYERS stick together? That's cuz they know they're all hired liars!
My view is that if you're all going to show loyalty.. show it to the TRUTH.
Course I'm just an old has-been saying that. And old fashioned by definition. Gee. What an outmoded idea to think that blogging shouldn't be about "EXPEDIENCY" but should just be just a new medium for expressing "TRUTH".
Maybe like television and science, we haven't quite figured out yet what to do with this new software we call 'blogging'. BTW, Rush and others have the same problem with talk radio!
