Once again, Gloria Squitiro entertains Kansas City with the stories of her husband's adventures while leaving out all of the great details like Council Dude Russ Johnson Giving him a world class smackdown before his State Of The City Speech ALONG WITH THE FACT that his Kansas City MLB All-Star Game announcement appearance was nothing more than one of the most blatant acts of hypocrisy committed in local politics.
It's also kind of funny Mayor Funky is trying to sneak his way into the Missouri Special Session given his horrible reputation of working with the Kansas City Delegation of The Missouri General Assembly
Anyhoo, here are this week's batch of lame propaganda from Kansas City's stronger Co-Mayor -- Gloria Squitiro:
Funk's Front Porch
25 June 2010
Dear Folks,
This Week's City Business
The Mayor will be traveling to Jefferson City early Monday morning to testify for the Manufacturing Jobs Act in the Missouri Legislature's special session. This bill would give incentives to the Ford Claycomo plant and could very well keep thousands of jobs in our area, many of them jobs held by your Kansas City neighbors. Anytime the Mayor can speak up for more jobs for regular folks he will do whatever it takes.
The Mayor continues to stand against dedicating taxpayer money to building a new hotel in Downtown Kansas City.
He's looking at the hotel from a business standpoint. Even planning for a hotel puts the city in a precarious situation with our bond rating agencies. The agencies are okay with "good debt" - things like neighborhood infrastructure improvements - but they look down on pie-in-the-sky plans. If we continue in this vein, the agencies could punish Kansas City by downgrading our credit rating. If that occurs, our interest rates could soar on any money that we did borrow for "good debt" necessities.
It's been a great summer for sports in Kansas City.
About two weeks ago, the Mayor joined with Chief Corwin, Denny Thum of the Chiefs, Kevin Dunn from the Police Athletic League Board, and John Fierro, president of the Parks Board to unveil plans for a new NFL-sized football field for Kansas City kids.
Money for the field, which will be located next to the Police Athletic League headquarters at 18th and White, was donated by the Chiefs, the NFL Youth Football Fund and the Greater Kansas City LISC. Others - Sports Turf Managers Association, Honeywell and Acme Fence - also are contributing.
The Mayor noted that PAL had been seeking money for the field for more than six years, and thanked the organization's commitment to our city's kids. The Mayor said that our children are the future home owners, business leaders and maybe even City Council members - or mayors - for Kansas City.
The Mayor was at Kauffman Stadium for another major announcement.
The Mayor was joined by Gov. Nixon, Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig and Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders and others as Selig announced that the 2012 Major League All Star Game will take place in Kansas City.
The Mayor said that he is looking forward to showing off the newly renovated Kauffman Stadium to baseball fans across the world.
And last weekend, the Mayor helped kick off the season for a popular summer sports program, Mayor's Night Hoops.
In his State of the City Address, the Mayor talked about how Kansas City needed to get back to basics, and a couple of events last week underscored just how important that is.
The Star last week reported that millions of gallons of raw sewage have spilled onto streets and property near the city's Birmingham pump station in the Northland. By Wednesday, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources issued a notice of violation citing the city for three separate violations.
The Mayor mentioned the sewage overflow in his State of the City address. He said that Kansas City has problems of enormous magnitude that have festered for decades and been ignored and covered up while they got more and more ugly.
An hour before the Mayor's address, the city had to close the 12th Street Bridge west of Downtown when a support beam fell. The bridge is being renovated.
The Mayor met with the Chinese Consul General, Guoqiang Yang. Kansas City was the first city the Consul General visited after he took the post three weeks ago in Chicago. They discussed how to increase commerce between Kansas City and China by taking advantage of Kansas City's central location, the SmartPort, skilled workers, and advanced technologies.
They also discussed the preparation for the Clean Energy and Green Solutions Summit to be held in October in Kansas City. Some of the important questions to be discussed at the summit will include how China and the U.S. will use innovative technologies to produce clean energy, use energy more efficiently, develop energy-efficient public transit, and prevent pollution of our air, water and land.
On a More Personal Note
Our urban garden took a hit this week. Everything was growing nicely one day, but the next day the collard greens that were just ready for picking were nothing but stems. It seems we have rabbits in our yard. So this weekend will find our children putting up a chicken-wire fence, just like days of old.
In faith,
Gloria & Mark

ReplyDeleteWabbits? OH! How I hate those waskely wabbits!
ReplyDeleteKc is damaged goods in Jeff City. The Co-mayors need to go.
ReplyDeleteFunkhouser for incentives!
ReplyDeleteThe FUNKHOUSER SUICIDE WATCH continues.
they could fuck up a crowbar in a cornfield
ReplyDeleteAnd they will be co-fishing in a few months after Funk drops out.
ReplyDeleteWho wrote this drivel? Sounds like a third grader...they could at least hire an editor!
ReplyDeleteMark isn't going to resign, drop-out or commit suicide. You'll have to work for it.
ReplyDeleteWho ARE these Funkhouser people and what are their interests? And why should we give them our money for their interests?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone KNOW? Does Gloria actually SAY in her weekly bullshit blog?
Why should we VOTERS support the Funkhousers and what's in it for US, like the big companies already know what big money is in it for THEM?
So tell me, if they've really been working for the "regular" working folk...why is this the first time he's been to Jeff City to testify. Many others have already been there to testify in sessions past. What he's saying is that he's going to run up to the podium at the last second and then grab credit if the work of others makes a win for Ford.
ReplyDeleteHe was out picking Collard Greens cooked them up with some Fat Back. Yum good. Got cooking skills from the Black part of town.
ReplyDeleteThere is something seriously wrong with an elected official who cannot build a consensus with others for the good of the citizens he serves. When I heard his state of the city address on cable tv, with a truly unbiased conscience, I finally realized that: (1) he has a narcissistic personality disorder under DSM-IV diagnostic criteria, with obvious signs of a paranoid personality disorder as a frilly garnish; and (2) I will never give any credibility to this son-of-a-bitch again. What an asshole, and I feel like an asshole for voting for him last time.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:30 PM
ReplyDeletePerhaps you should analyze why you did vote for him. Was it a) he was white, b) he was male, c) he wasn't a politician, d) he had a Ph.D., e) he was a retired auditor, f) he was an outsider, g) he was a populist, h) he was charismatic, i) he was tall & reminded you of Lincoln or j) all of the above. I think it was (j).
Now, analyze why none of this mattered. I think it was (f). You didn't know him (the danger of voting for an outsider.)
All of the known candidates have flaws, because everyone has flaws; but you know them. There won't be any SURPRISES. I humbly suggest you chose the person who has shown the best citizenship. I would ignore what they say to the crowds, & examine what they say to individuals. I think that its the interpersonal skills that matter & not campaign rhetoric.
c,e, & g. But you've got to get along with your other elected folks to advance a populist agenda, and that he stubbornly refuses to do because only HE is right, and the world revolves around HIM. Hence, the diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteI don't dispute the diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteThe FUNKHOUSER SUICIDE WATCH continues.
ReplyDeleteByron please tell us what is wrong with your brother Mark? His behavior is very strange.
ReplyDeleteAfter siding with illegal immigrants, Funkhouser might as well save his cash, and start looking for a new gig. He would have been the front runner if it weren't for his vote against the American people.
ReplyDeletetrue dat
ReplyDeletethat damn man NEVER sided with anyone but his ugly old ass... yeah, I meant his wife.
