There are a great many things I remember about Kansas City.
I remember when this town wasn't run by a halfwit Mayor and his weird-ass wife. I also remember when the actions of a Mayor were actually substantial, well thought out and decisive and didn't result in even more backlash over continued incompetence.
I remember when I was hopeful about politics and the amazing opportunity that existed to transform the world, long before hope & change became nothing more than a punchline.
I remember my parents telling me about segregated dining in this cowtown and "colored day" at Fairlyland Park and that's why I don't really trust any of you white devils.
I remember when there was real hope for this City's future that wasn't just a throwaway line functioning as part of a development scheme.
So, as memories grow longer the recurring theme that keeps things funny is that so many people are continually fooled by silly promises and their own naïveté. Failed politicos have promised so much and the grand prank either ends up in death via unquestioning patriotism or a broke city filled with potholes, infrastructure failure and increasing divisions while a barefoot woman giggles mercilessly.
On a personal level . . . Everybody gets left behind in Kansas City. Stagnation is part of this town's lifestyle and I actually recall with great fondness all of the dumb broken promises I've heard. Life in Kansas City offers the wonderful opportunity to mock the ups and downs of everyone else.
And all of these thoughts have inspired this Memorial Day Weekend Playlist.
As always, thank you for reading this week and have a safe and fun weekend.
Good tunes.
ReplyDeleteyeah, good tunes, nothing military-oriented. isn't that the reason this fat-assed, idiotic and extremely shallow country is off tomorrow? why do people each year look at tomorrow as a holiday??? well, a day off is a holiday in these united states, i guess.
ReplyDeletePeople will stuff their mouths with hamburgers, hot dogs and chips. Quaff enormous quantities of beer and have a high ol' time.
ReplyDeleteA few will take time on Monday to go and honor those who paid the ultimate price so we could sit on our ass and complain about all the shit in our lives. And how the Democrats or the Republicans or the Government ought to do something about something.
Young men and women who enlisted, were drafted, who died defending the Constitution. And our elected and political leaders use the parchment to wipe their ass and raid the Treasury for the spoils of political victory.
Without them we would not have our freedoms. Freedom isn't free.
And without them Hitler could not have condemned them at Dachau, without them Ceasar would have stood alone.
When will we ever learn?

ReplyDeleteHe doesn't like male white devils. Obviously, he's quite fine with female white devils as he sure has enough of them plastered on his web page.
ReplyDeleteThe picture make sure that he will never be as well resepected as the Arch City Chronicle.
ReplyDeleteTony you are a sorry assed, immature negative stereotype.
